Chapter 1: Opening Image
"I don't know about this, mom" says Jenny, her voice wavering slightly as she peers through the car window at the foreboding stone wall that surrounds the camp. The entrance is adorned with a sign that reads 'Sisterhood, Strength, and Solidarity' in elegant, flowing script. It's an impressive sight, but she can't shake the feeling of unease that has settled in her stomach like a stone.
Her mother, sitting beside her in the driver's seat, smiles reassuringly. "Honey, I've heard nothing but good things about this camp. It's an exclusive community of strong, empowered women.
You'll love it here," she insists, putting the car in park and turning to face Jenny.
"It's all about finding your inner strength, and learning to rely on each other."
Her mom continues, seemingly reading Jenny's mind. "Now, come on, let's get you settled in."
Jenny adjusts her tank top, looking down at her jeans and sneakers. "It's weird, though, that they asked us to bring nothing. Not even our cell phones or a change of clothes. What if I get cold at night?"
Her mom laughs softly, opening the car door. "The camp claims they'll provide everything you need, sweetheart. It's part of the experience, letting go of material attachments."
Jenny steps out of the car, her eyes darting to the tall stone wall again. "I guess so," she says, a hint of uncertainty still lingering in her voice. "But it's just... different."

Her mother loops her arm through Jenny's, leading her towards the entrance.
As they approach, a woman dressed in a simple white robe and barefoot emerges from a small wooden gatehouse. She smiles warmly at Jenny, extending a hand. "Welcome! I'm Alexa, your counselor for the week. You must be Jenny."
Jenny nods, shaking Alexa's hand. Her mother gives her a quick, reassuring hug before turning to Alexa. "She's all yours. Thank you for taking such good care of her."
Alexa smiles at Jenny's mother. "It's our pleasure. Please drive safe, and we'll see you in two weeks."
Jenny watches as her mother walks back to the car, a little wave goodbye faintly visible through the rear window. The gate begins to close, the heavy wooden panels creaking slowly shut.
Jenny takes a deep breath, her eyes scanning the campgrounds. She notes the absence of men or boys, and a sense of comfort washes over her. She turns to Alexa and asks, "Where are all the guys? I didn't see any boys or men here."
Alexa smiles, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "This camp is exclusively for women, dear. A sanctuary of sorts, where we can focus on empowering ourselves and building strong bonds with each other."
Jenny nods, appreciating the explanation. She looks down at Alexa's robe and bare feet. "Why are you all wearing robes and no shoes? It's not like it's a spa or something."
Alexa chuckles, gesturing for Jenny to follow her. "Ah, the robes are part of our welcome ritual. It's a symbol of unity and simplicity.
We leave behind our material attachments to focus on what truly matters - our personal growth and connection with others."
Jenny raises an eyebrow as they walk along the well-manicured path. "And the shoes? Is that some sort of grounding technique?"
Alexa grins. "Not quite. It's more about feeling the earth beneath your feet, being present in the moment. Plus, it helps us all feel a bit more equal. No designer heels or expensive sneakers to separate us."
