Tommie and Reiley meet in a cyber cafe on the outer rim space station that they worked and lived on. He worked on and maintained automated Construction droids for ever-expanding projects to the station. She was a hostess at one of the stations sanctioned pleasure houses. They had connected because they both where from the northern America continent. And had been dating for over almost 3 years and living together for 2 years. For the last 6 months they have been involved in several underground sex clubs that supply patrons with different substances that enhance sexual intimacy

Characters

  • Hazel Coyle — A resident of the outer rim space station who works as a hostess, secretly studying for a degree in pleasure house management to eventually take over the business. She balances her professional aspirations with a hedonistic life in the station's underground clubs, utilizing chemical enhancements to
  • Jelani Adebayo — A high-end supplier of chemical stimulants and synaptic enhancers who operates out of the station's deepest, unmonitored sectors. He manages the underground sex clubs that Tommie and Reiley frequent, holding them in his debt through exclusive access to restricted substances.
  • Tommie — A technician specializing in automated construction droids for the station's expansion. He is deeply integrated into the station's infrastructure, using his access to maintain the couple's lifestyle and facilitate their shared participation in underground chemsex clubs, remaining a devoted, faithful
  • Naomi Fisk — A small, compact woman who trained Hazel on the intake desk and disappeared from the roster two years before, logged as transferred to an inner-ring private contract. She now walks the volume barefoot in a grey underlayer with a black band set into her skull and a silver seam running up her forearm
  • Wendell — A man held behind one of the occupied doors in Utility Volume 11-7, speaking through a speaker in corridor 11-7-C. His voice is deeper and older than the woman in 11-7-B, and he refuses to let her beg or use his name.
  • The Booted Man — A thick-shouldered man in his mid-fifties in a dark coat with no crest, no cuff light, and no data on his wrist, logged by the desk scanner as nothing. He came to the intake desk at 0740, addressed Hazel as 'the Coyle,' and told her to tell Adebayo the reading has moved.
  • Tirrell — A man whose crew and berths Jelani referenced when demanding the manifest line be redrawn and warning that his men not be sent through the volume again. Tommie knows the name from Jelani's earlier questions about dock logs.
  • Priya — A junior hostess who works the intake desk alongside Hazel and was trained by her. She has logged a stomach complaint four times that month.
  • Curtis Vale — A four-year veteran of the droid pen on Dock Tier Seven who taught Tommie the manual override pin trick and had eaten dinner at Tommie and Hazel's apartment. He escorts intake subjects down the west conveyor spur and logs them to Volume 11-7.

Chapter 2: Terms of the Fourth

The compound had not dimmed. It moved through Tommie in slow amber waves, and every surface in the room kept arriving at his skin as if for the first time. The obsidian under his back was cool and absolute. The violet light sliding across it had a texture he could feel. Hazel was still kneeling above him with his semen cooling on her belly in a slow, tacky line, and even that felt engineered, every last gram of it alive against the air.

He lay with his breath coming down from a long climb. The incense had thinned enough that he could smell her, salt and sweat and the polymer of her bodysuit folded somewhere behind them on the floor.

Jelani had not moved through any of it.

That was the thing Tommie had logged without meaning to. Across the whole hour, across the sounds and the asking and the two of them fucking open on the table, the man had stayed in his chair with one ankle crossed over the other, watching like a patron at a recital. He took nothing. He drank nothing. He had never once stood.

So when the chair creaked, Tommie turned his head.

Jelani rose.

He was taller standing than Tommie had priced him for, and he crossed the room slowly, the gold chain shifting on his chest, his boots soft on the stone. He did not look at Tommie. He went past the chair to the low tray at the room's far edge, the one that had held the three amber injectors, and Tommie watched his hand close on the fourth.

The small dark one. No light in it. It had sat on that tray like a spent thing while the amber burned, and Jelani had told them to forget it, and Tommie had, mostly, the way you forget a locked door in a house you already know.

Jelani came back with it balanced between two fingers.

He stopped at the foot of the table, closer than he had been all night, and turned the injector once in the violet light. It swallowed the glow instead of returning it.

"The last condition," he said.

Hazel's head came up. She was still flushed, her bob stuck to her cheekbone on one side, her eyes bright with the compound and the comedown that was not a comedown. "We already settled," she said. "The third one, split between us. The readings with no faces. That was the deal."

"That was the deal for the amber," Jelani said. "The amber is a gift. It is not the term of this session."

Tommie pushed himself up onto his elbows, and the obsidian sang against his forearms. "You said forget it."

"I said it was a conversation we have not had yet." Jelani's amber eyes moved from Hazel to him and back. "We are having it."

There was no hurry in him anywhere. That was the worst of it. He held the injector out at the level of Hazel's shoulder, unhurried, an offer with no pressure in the arm behind it, and the whole room narrowed to the amount of air between her and the thing.

Tommie's mouth was dry. "Say what it is first."

"I will say what it does," Jelani said. "It opens the pair of you. Whatever you feel for each other, it strips the lid off and puts it in your hands. All of it. Every hidden wanting you have ever had about her, every one she has locked down about you, out where you can both see it and use it. It does not manufacture anything. Nothing new gets made. It only uncovers."

"That is a threat," Tommie said, "or it is a sales pitch, and I cannot tell which."

"It is a description." Jelani's voice did not rise by a single degree. "And it sharpens the body the same way the amber does, on top of what the amber has already done. You are both still riding. In an hour the amber goes quiet. If you take this now, while the receptors are open, there is nothing else like it on this station and there will not be again. That is why the night is worth recording. This is the recording."

Tommie looked at Hazel.

She was looking at the injector. Her body had gone very still the way it did in the minutes before she made a call, and he had learned every version of that stillness in three years. There was the one she wore when she was about to walk out of a room at the pleasure house and never come back to it. There was the one she wore at the kitchen rail with her study tablets spread out, already three moves ahead of a manager who did not yet know he was being beaten. This was the one with her hand not moving and her mind going fast.

"Hazel."

"I heard him," she said, without turning.

"You know what we agreed. The rule."

"I know the rule."

The rule was hers. She had written it in the first month of the clubs, when the compounds were weak and cheap and the rooms were loud, and she had never once broken it. Nothing went into either of them that they had not walked through out loud, clause by clause, in their own kitchen, sober, with the door shut. It had kept them alive and kept them a pair when the rest of the floor was falling apart around them.

But the terms had already been cut once tonight, in this room, with Jelani's eyes on them. Tommie felt the shape of it now, the way the room had been built, the way the amber had been a softener and the watching had been a hook, and still, still, he did not move to stop her. Because he wanted to know what she wanted. Because that was the real price of the thing and Jelani knew it and had known it the whole time.

Her hand came up.

It rose slowly, palm open, and Tommie watched her fingers find the dark injector and close around it, and he understood too late, with his come still drying on her stomach and his own blood thick and loud in his ears, that the conversation they had been told to forget was happening now, in this room, with both of them naked and open on the obsidian and the amber still burning in his veins.

Jelani let go of it and stepped back one pace, giving the two of them the floor.

"Tell him what you want," he said to Hazel. "Out loud. That is the fourth term."

She looked at the injector in her fist for a long moment, and then she looked at Tommie.

The violet light moved over her face and he watched her make the same call she made at the kitchen rail, three moves ahead, except this time the moves were not on a manager. They were on him. On the two of them. She turned the injector over in her palm once, the way Jelani had, and it drank the light the same way and gave nothing back.

"You are going to hate hearing this," she said.

"I have never hated hearing anything from you."

"You have. You just never said so." Her jaw worked. She was naked and streaked and her hair was stuck to her cheek and she still looked like she ran the room. "Okay. The rule is mine, so I get to break it first. That is only fair."

"You do not have to break it."

"I do, though. That is the whole thing." She glanced at Jelani, standing back with his arms loose at his sides, and then she brought her eyes back and did not look away again. "Because the rule was never for you. It was for me. So that I would not have to say this out loud."

Tommie lay still. The amber was still moving under his skin and it made the waiting feel enormous.

"I want to be filled," Hazel said.

The words landed flat in the incense-thinned air, plain as a report, and she did not take them back.

"Not once. Not last week in the clubs when we were high and it slipped. I want it every time. I have wanted it every time for months and I have been pulling the rule out like a lockpick every time we got close, so that you would pull out and I would not have to ask you for the thing I actually want." Her hand closed hard around the dark injector. "Because if I ask you for it, then it is mine. I chose it. And I cannot tell myself it just happened."

Tommie's mouth opened. Nothing came.

"I have been off my blockers since the second month of us," she said, quieter. "You never asked. I never told you. I have been counting days in my head like a thief, Tommie, in our kitchen, next to you, with the study tablets open, and telling myself I was only keeping the option. That is a lie. I was keeping a wanting. I want you to put a baby in me on this station, in that apartment, with the vents humming, and I want you to not pull out and not ask and not do it soft like it is a favour. I want it selfish. I want to feel you finish inside me and know it took, and I want to be kept."

The silence afterward was the largest thing in the room.

Jelani had not moved. His pale amber eyes were on her and there was something in his stillness now that had not been there before, not arousal exactly, more the look of a man watching a locked door swing on its own.

Tommie sat up. The obsidian sang again under his palms and he barely felt it. "Hazel."

"Do not." She held up the injector between them. "This is the part where you get to say no. Say it now, because once I put this in my arm I am going to say everything else and you are going to say everything back, and neither of us is going to be able to pretend we were tricked."

He looked at the small dark thing. He looked at her face, stubborn and terrified and lit up like a signal.

"I have wanted it too," he said.

She breathed out, hard, like she had been holding it since the lift.

She pressed the injector to the crook of her elbow and fired it.

For a second nothing happened. Then her whole frame tightened at once, shoulders and stomach and the long muscle of her thighs, and she let out a sound that was nothing like the come-up of the amber, lower and slower, a sound drawn up from somewhere she kept locked. Her eyes came open wide and wet and went straight to him.

"Say the rest," Jelani said from behind her, almost gently. "He is open. You can feel it. He is open the same as you."

She crossed the table on her knees. She took Tommie's face in both hands and the compound in her was already in her fingertips, he could feel the difference, every print of hers flattening against his jaw like a brand.

"I want you to fuck me while he watches," she said, "and I want it to be the meanest thing you have ever done to me, and I want you to come inside me and stay in me after. And I want to be the one who asked for it, so that it is mine and yours and never his." Her thumb dragged across his lip. "That is what I have been hiding. Since before the clubs. Since the night you moved your boots into my locker."

Tommie took her by the hips and hauled her down onto the obsidian.

There was no negotiation left in either of them. The amber had already opened every nerve he owned and the second compound stripped the lid off the rest, and what came out of him was not tenderness. He got a hand between her legs and found her soaked and swollen and past patience, and she bit at his shoulder and said, "Stop checking on me," so he stopped.

He turned her onto her front and dragged her to the edge of the table by her hips and pushed into her in one stroke, all the way, no warm-up, and she cried out with her palms flat on the stone and her back bowing. The compound made it unbearable in the best way, every ridge and clench of her felt in triplicate, and he fucked her hard from the first thrust, one hand fisted in the short hair at the back of her head, the other clamped on her hip, driving her forward into the obsidian with every stroke until the stone squeaked under her sweat.

"That is it," she gasped. "Harder. Do not be kind."

He was not kind. He took her like a man settling a debt, hips slapping into her ass in a rhythm that made the whole table shift, and under the slap and the hiss of her breath he could hear Jelani's chair creak once and settle. He did not look. He did not want to look. He wanted her mouth open on the stone and her fists loose and the whole terrible confession of the last ten minutes fucked down into the table between them.

He got his hand under her and found her clit and she came almost immediately, thighs locking, a long broken sound wrung out of her, and he kept going through it without stopping, because she had told him not to, because she had asked for the meanest thing he had.

When it came up on him he pulled her up against his chest by the hair and the hip, both of them on their knees on the black stone, and he said it into her ear like a promise and a threat at once. "I am not pulling out."

"No," she said. "Do it. Do it now, Tommie, fill me up."

He slammed home and came inside her, deep and shaking, holding her pinned to him while it went on, and she pressed back against him and took it and made a sound that was almost a laugh, wet and wrecked, and she reached down and held him in with her own hand until he was done.

Neither of them moved. The violet light kept pulsing. Somewhere behind them Jelani exhaled, slow and satisfied, and the lenses drank every second of it.

Neither of them moved for a long moment. The violet light kept pulsing and the amber kept working under Tommie's skin, and Jelani's exhale hung in the air behind them like the closing of a ledger. Hazel was still pressed back against him, her hand still down between her own thighs holding him where he was, wet and locked and not letting go.

Then she eased forward off him, and the loss of her was a physical insult with the compound still running. She turned on her knees to face the room and did not reach for her bodysuit. She sat there on the black stone with her knees apart and her chin up, Tommie's come beginning to run down the inside of her thigh, and looked straight at Jelani like a woman who had just read out the terms of a merger and was waiting for the countersignature.

Jelani inclined his head to her. One slow degree. It was the first gesture of respect Tommie had seen him offer anyone in that room, and it made Tommie's stomach turn over.

"Now," Jelani said, "the fourth term."

He walked past them to the far wall, the one behind the chair, where the obsidian ran floor to ceiling without a seam Tommie had ever been able to find. He stopped in front of it and lifted his left wrist, and the data-link band there turned gold in the violet haze.

Hazel's head tracked him. Tommie got his hands under himself and pushed up off the table, and the compound made the texture of the stone crawl up both arms. "We recorded already," he said. "You said lenses. Fine. You got your hour."

"You gave me temperature," Jelani said, without turning. "Pulse, respiration, the contraction timings, the two-minute gap before she came the second time. Rich data. Anonymous data. Sensors in the room and you two spread out underneath them like a schematic." He tapped the band. The wall did not open so much as unknit. Black panels slid apart down the length of it, three seams, four, seven, each one recessing half a finger into the stone, and behind each seam sat a lens.

Not the small soft sensor heads Tommie knew from the docks, the ones that watched a work crew and logged bolt torque and nobody cared. These were recording optics, full-ring, the kind the pleasure houses used for their high-tier content, brushed housings the color of the wall so they had never once read as anything but decoration. They woke all together, a soft red ring coming up around each aperture, and then another row above them, and another, and Tommie lost count somewhere around two dozen.

Every one of them was pointed at the table.

"You told us no faces," Hazel said. Her voice had dropped into the register she used on managers.

"I told you no names or faces left the room." Jelani turned. The red rings put twenty small lights in his eyes. "I did not tell you there would be no image. This is the room. Nothing here leaves. That is the whole architecture of the sanctum, Hazel, every gram of the station's infrastructure that keeps this place dark is dark precisely so that what happens in it can be kept." He spread one hand at the wall of optics. "These are not uplinked. No node. No cache off the stone. They write to a node that lives inside this room and they die with it. That is what I bought from the station with thirty years of knowing which engineers to pay. I suggest you decide quickly whether you believe me, because they have been running for the last several seconds."

Tommie looked at Hazel. She was already doing the math, he could see it, the same fast moving sum as at the kitchen rail, and she did not waste a look on him first.

"You turned them on after I said it," she said. "Not before."

"Correct."

"You turned them on for the part where I said I want to be kept."

"For the part where you said it," Jelani agreed, "and for the part where the pair of you stopped checking on each other and fucked. The amber hour was a beautiful machine. But machines are not the thing I am buying. The thing I am buying is on the last ten minutes of that wall."

Tommie got off the table. The station-forged calm in his chest was fraying at the edges now, the amber dragging every read along too sharp, the cool floor under his bare feet feeling like a second compound on its own. He crossed to Hazel and stood at her shoulder. He did not touch her. He did not know yet what touching her would do to his face.

"Turn them off," he said.

"No."

"Then we walk. You get your hour and you get your feet, and you get nothing else, and you lose the pair of us."

"You could walk," Jelani said, unconcerned. His pale amber eyes slid to Hazel and stayed there, and Tommie understood with a late, bad certainty that the man had decided where the pressure point of this room was a long time ago, probably before they ever rode the lift. "If you wanted to walk. But she has not asked to."

Hazel did not answer that. She sat on the edge of the table, naked and streaked and lit red at the edges, and looked at the row of awakened lenses the way she looked at a set of accounts.

"What is the ask," she said at last. "You do not switch twenty lenses on to watch a thing you already watched. So say it."

"I want the full pair of you on the stone," Jelani said. "Sound, face, everything the amber damped out. Every time you take a compound from my tray, from tonight on, the room records you both and I hold the copy here, in this node, under this floor, where nothing on the station can touch it and nothing in it can be traded. Not a clip. Not a market. An archive. I want the whole of you, and I want it because it is the only true currency a man in my position can hold that no crew on any tier can steal from him." He looked at the wall of red rings. "The logs I asked your husband about, the access traffic on the new dock tier, the crew names off Tirrell's manifests, all of that can be had from anyone with a maintenance slot and no scruples. This," and he nodded at the two of them, "is not purchasable anywhere on this station, and I have had it, and I want it kept."

Tommie's jaw worked. "And if we say no."

"Then you dress and ride up and I refund the amber out of nothing at all, because the amber was never the debt. The debt was the last term, and the last term is standing in front of you with its lights on." Jelani walked back toward his chair, unhurried, and settled into it, and crossed one ankle over the other, and became the man at the recital again. "The recordings of the last ten minutes already exist. I will delete them on your word. You will never know if I did, and that is the only lie I have ever told this room. Everything else I have given you has been true."

Hazel stood up off the table. She walked to Tommie and put her palm flat on his chest, over the heart, and the compound carried the whole texture of her fingerprint through his skin and straight down his spine. She kept her eyes on Jelani the entire time.

"Tommie," she said quietly. "Do not answer for me. I did the last part. You get this one."

The red rings watched them both.

Tommie put his hand over hers where it lay on his chest, and he held it there a second, and then he took it off him, gently, the way you take a tool out of someone's grip before they hurt themselves with it.

He looked at the wall. Twenty small red eyes, or more, no sound but the faint dry whir of the ring housings warming. He looked at the chair and the man in it, ankle over ankle, patient as the station's own clock.

"Yes," he said.

Hazel's breath went out through her nose, slow. She did not look surprised. She looked like a woman who had bet on a number and watched it come up.

"Say the whole thing," Jelani said. "For the room."

"Record us," Tommie said. "Both of us, from tonight on, every time we take something off your tray. Keep it here, in your node, in the floor, where I can never prove what you did with it and you can never sell it on a tier I could find. You get the pair of us on this stone with nothing damped. And I get one thing back."

"Name it."

"When we are done in a room, however a night ends, you hand the current file over to me to wipe. Not the archive. Wipe the file, the local one, the one that is still open. I watch it go. Then when you want it again, you make a new one, and I watch that close too." Tommie's jaw set. "You keep the past. You do not keep the present running."

Jelani's pale amber eyes considered him for a good three seconds. Then, slowly, he stood. Not a threat, not a loom, just a man standing up.

"That is a better term than I expected from a droid technician," he said. "It costs me nothing and gains me the confidence of a man I want confident. Done." He walked to the tray and drew a small matte wafer from beneath it, no thicker than a fingernail, and pressed it against the underside of the obsidian table's lip, just below the head end. A thin green line ran up the stone and vanished into it. "The node is in the floor. That is its doorbell. Touch it when a file has run its course and the open one closes and a fresh one opens in its place. A technician's term for a technician." He sat back down. "Begin."

Hazel did not get the chance to be precious about it. Tommie had her by the wrist and off her feet before she could arrange her face, and he put her down on the black slab on her back, and she grunted at the impact of the cold and her whole body arched off it once and came back down.

"You heard the man," he said. He was already hard again, and whether that was the amber or the new thing burning in her arm he did not care. "Say what you want."

"Tommie."

"Say it. He wants it whole."

She looked up at him, wet-eyed and furious and lit red at the crown of her head from the lenses on the far wall, and she said it, plainly, the way she had said it the first time.

"Fuck me and finish in me and keep me."

He got a knee between her thighs and pushed them apart and did not bother with anything else. He lined up and went into her in one long drive, and she was slick from him already and hot from what he had left in her five minutes ago, and the compound made every fold of her a separate piece of news arriving at his cock at once. She cried out short and sharp and got her heels up on the table edge and her hands fisted in the air over her own head, and he began to move.

He was not slow. He set a pace he knew would carry him to the end of it and he held it, hips snapping, and the table shifted on the stone beneath them with each stroke, an engraved grumble running under the wet slap of it. Hazel took it with her mouth open and her eyes half shut and one hand now flat on the stone by her head, the other creeping down her own belly to work her clit with two fingers while he fucked her into the black slab. She came like that, quickly, watching him do it, biting her own lip so hard he saw the white of the tooth, and she did not stop her hand until he was three strokes past her and still driving.

"Turn her over," Jelani said from the chair. Not loud.

Tommie did not answer him. He took Hazel by the hips and rolled her onto her front without pulling out, which made her gasp and claw at the stone, and then he was on her back, chest down on her, one forearm braced under her so her face was not crushed, and he fucked her like that, low and deep and mean, his mouth at her ear.

"You want to feel it take," he said.

"Yes."

"You want it selfish."

"Yes. Do it. Stop asking me and do it."

He got his hand in her hair and pulled her head back against his shoulder and gave her the last of it and meant every stroke of it. He could hear his own breathing coming ragged and wet and the violet air moving in his throat, and under that the quiet of a room of lenses recording, and in the corner of his eye, past the shine of Hazel's shoulder, the black man in the chair with his hands on the arms and his throat working once, and once more.

It came up on Tommie slow and enormous, the whole amber hour folding into one point at the base of him, and Hazel felt the change and pushed her ass back into his hips to meet it and said into her own forearm, "Now. Now, now, now."

He finished inside her. Deep, all the way in, and he held her down flat under him while it went on, and he ground against her to milk the last of it, and he stayed there, in her, not moving, breathing into the back of her neck and feeling his own pulse going through her body from the inside.

Nobody said anything for a while. Somewhere behind them the red rings hummed.

Then Hazel laughed, short and wrecked, her cheek flat on the obsidian. "Well," she said. "Now he knows."

He eased out of her slowly and sat back on his heels, and she did not get up. She stayed on her stomach with her legs still apart and did nothing to hide what ran out of her onto the black stone, and she turned her head to the side so she could see Jelani in his chair, and she looked at him with her chin down and her eyes up.

"Satisfied," she said.

Jelani stood and walked to the table and looked down at her for a long moment. He did not touch her. "Get your things," he said. "The lift knows the way up."

Tommie found his jumpsuit and pulled it on over skin that still felt like a live wire. Hazel dressed in the polymer suit that went matte charcoal at the shoulders and violet where the light caught it, and she had to peel it up over the slick on her thighs and she did it without hurrying, because that was the kind of woman she was and had always been.

At the door Tommie stopped and looked back into the violet room. Jelani was at the tray, and the three spent amber injectors lay there, and beside them where the fourth had been there was only a clean ring on the metal.

"When do we see you again," Tommie said.

"When I have something worth both of you," Jelani said, not turning around. "You will know by the band."

The door shut, and the corridor took them, long and grey and cold, back toward the lift.
