Chapter 1: The Promotion Test
The city’s skyline glittered through the floor-to-ceiling windows, a cold tapestry of lights against the deepening blue. Inside, the conference room felt like a vacuum, all sound sucked out except for the faint, persistent hum of the HVAC. Pam shifted in the plush leather chair, the contract draft she’d been reviewing now a forgotten stack on the polished mahogany.
Julian Vance sat across from her, not at the head of the table, but directly opposite. An intimate distance. His jacket was draped over another chair, his sleeves rolled up to reveal tanned, muscular forearms. A single desk lamp was the only light on, pooling gold on the table between them and throwing his sharp features into dramatic relief.
“You’ve been exceptional, Pam,” he said, his voice a low rumble that seemed to vibrate in the quiet room. “The Driscoll merger? That was your groundwork. Your meticulousness.”
“Thank you, Julian. I just compiled the data.” She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, a nervous habit. The ‘private discussion about her future’ had started twenty minutes ago with praise, then veered into vague, tantalizing promises. A directorship. Her own team. Things she’d craved but never voiced.
“You’re undervaluing yourself.” He leaned forward, the lamp catching the silver at his temples. “That’s a common problem with truly talented people. They need someone to… recognize their full potential. To show them what they’re really capable of.”
His gaze was heavy, direct. It wasn’t the look of a boss reviewing an employee. It was an appraisal. She felt it travel from her eyes, down to her mouth, lingering at the V of her blouse. A flush crept up her neck. She should say something professional, deflect.
“I’m ready for more responsibility,” she managed, her voice softer than she intended.
“I know you are.” He smiled, a slow, knowing curl of his lips. His right hand, which had been resting on the table, dropped into his lap. His posture didn’t change. He was still the CEO, in control. But his eyes held hers, captive. “The question is, how much do you want it? What are you willing to… demonstrate?”
A faint, rhythmic movement under the table caught the edge of her perception. The fine wool of his trousers shifted. She stared at his face, at the intense focus there, and her brain slowly, horrifyingly, connected the dots. He wasn’t just talking. He was touching himself. Right here, in the dark, silent conference room.
Her breath hitched. She should stand up. She should leave. But her body felt locked to the chair, a hot-cold paralysis of shock and a treacherous, unwelcome thrill. The power in the room had subtly, completely, inverted. He was exposing himself, and yet she was the one laid bare.
“Julian, I…” The sentence died.
“Look at me, Pam.” His command was gentle, absolute. “Don’t look away. This is part of it. Understanding what real commitment looks like.”
His breathing deepened slightly. The motion in his lap became more defined, a deliberate stroking through the fabric. She could see the faint strain now, the impressive, thickening outline. Her mouth went dry.
“You have a brilliant mind,” he murmured, his voice thickening. “But I need to know about your hunger. Your drive. It’s not just up here.” He tapped his temple with his free hand. “It’s physical. Visceral. Can you get on your knees for what you want, Pam?”
The obscenity of the question, delivered in that calm, boardroom tone, short-circuited her last defense. A weak “no” formed on her lips, but never made a sound. Instead, a dizzying image flashed: her name on the director’s door, the respect, the salary, the victory. It mixed with the raw, sexual charge emanating from him. The cocktail was potent, disorienting.
“Prove it,” he said, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Prove your commitment isn’t just words in a performance review. Get under the table and take me in your mouth.”
The directness was a slap. It shattered the last pretense. This wasn’t seduction. It was a transaction, stark and clear. Her promotion, her future, for this. Now.
For a long moment, there was only the hum of the city and the pounding of her own blood in her ears. Then, moving as if in a dream, she pushed her chair back. The legs screeched softly on the hardwood. She lowered herself, the carpet rough against her stockinged knees. The world shrank to the cave under the table, dominated by the musky scent of his cologne and clean wool.
He didn’t help her. He just watched, his hand still moving slowly over the massive bulge. She reached up with trembling fingers, unbuttoned his fly, and freed him.
He was huge. Thick and long, fully erect, veins standing in stark relief. She’d heard whispers, but the reality was daunting. She wrapped her hand around the base, feeling the hot, silken-steel weight of him.
“Every inch, Pam,” he said from above, his voice husky but firm. “I want to feel you choke on it. I want to see how badly you really want this.”
She leaned forward, her heart hammering against her ribs. She opened her mouth, taking the broad, smooth head past her lips. He was salt and skin. She relaxed her jaw, letting him push deeper, her tongue flattening against the underside. He let out a soft, gratified sigh.
“Good. That’s it. Now deeper.”
She bobbed her head, taking more, her lips stretched tight. She used her hand on the base, working in tandem with her mouth. It was awkward, clinical, and intensely degrading. Yet, a shocking heat pooled low in her own belly. The power he had, the absolute certainty of his demand, was a dark magnet.
“Fuck, that’s a start,” he grunted. His hands came down, not to guide her, but to cradle her head, his fingers tangling in her hair. “But I said every inch. Take it. All of it.”
He applied pressure, not a violent thrust, but an inexorable, guiding force. She gagged as the head nudged the back of her throat. Tears sprang to her eyes. She fought the reflex, breathing harshly through her nose, her saliva slicking his length.
“Relax your throat,” he commanded, his hips giving a slight upward push.
She tried. She willed her muscles to unlock. With a brutal, slow invasion, he slid deeper, past the constriction, into a depth she’d never allowed anyone. Her eyes streamed. The feeling of being utterly filled, utterly used, was overwhelming. She was pinned there, impaled on him, her nose buried in the coarse hair at his base. She could smell the pure, animal scent of him.
He held her there for a long moment, letting her feel the full, suffocating reality of it. Then he began to move. Slow, deep, fucking strokes that pulled almost all the way out before plunging back into that deep, tight channel. The wet, obscene sounds filled the space under the table. His grip on her hair tightened, setting a ruthless rhythm.
“That’s your ambition, right there,” he groaned, his composure finally cracking. “That’s what it tastes like. Swallow it.”
She lost all sense of time, of self. She was a vessel, a function. Her jaw ached. Her throat was raw. But a perverse part of her was racing, keeping pace with his thrusts, a raw and shameful excitement coiling tight within her.
His movements became jagged, his breathing ragged. “I’m going to come. And you’re going to take it. Every drop. That’s the deal.”
He drove in one last, deep time, hilting himself with a force that made her see stars. A hot, pulsing jet hit the back of her throat, followed by another, and another. It was bitter, overwhelming. She swallowed convulsively, some deep-trained obedience taking over. He kept pumping, until he was spent, until she had taken it all.
He finally released her hair. She slumped back, gasping, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, her lipstick smeared. She crawled out from under the table, her legs shaky, and pulled herself into her chair. She couldn’t look at him.
Julian was calmly tucking himself back in, fastening his trousers. He took a slow breath, smoothing his shirt. The professional mask was back in place, but his eyes were dark, satisfied.
He stood, walked to the window, and looked out at his city. “Your review will be coming up in a couple months. I think you’ll find it… commensurate with your demonstrated level of dedication.”
He turned to look at her, a cool, evaluating glance. “We understand each other now, Pam. Don’t we?”
Pam looked down at her hands, clenched in her lap. They were still trembling. She felt hollowed out, branded. She nodded, once, a stiff little jerk of her head.
“Good.” He picked up his jacket. “Lock up when you leave.”
He left the room, the door sighing shut behind him. Pam sat in the lamplight, the taste of him still in her mouth, the phantom ache in her jaw a permanent contract signed in flesh. The glittering city outside no longer looked like opportunity. It looked like a cage, its bars just being set into place.
