Chapter 13: The Final Fuck

The city glittered, a cold tapestry of lights below the floor-to-ceiling windows. Pam stood by the glass, her reflection a ghost over the urban sprawl. She was already dressed, her tailored slacks and blouse feeling like a costume. The scent of him, of sex and expensive cologne, clung to her skin, a perfume of shame.

Behind her, Julian fastened his cufflinks, the click-click of metal precise in the vast quiet of the penthouse.

“The Henderson merger files will need to be on my desk by seven tomorrow,” he said, not looking at her. His voice was smooth, devoid of the guttural commands he’d used minutes before. “I’ll be in early.”

Pam nodded, her throat tight. “Of course.”

She remembered the feel of the mahogany desk, polished and unyielding against her cheek. The way he’d spread her ass cheeks apart, his thumb rough on her sensitive skin. You’ve become quite the expert at taking me. He’d said it like he was grading a performance. And then, after he’d finished inside her with a grunt that held no affection, the sudden withdrawal, the chill air on her wet skin. The tissue box skidding across the desk toward her. A silent dismissal more final than any words.

“You should go,” Julian said, finally turning. He smiled, the same charming, empty smile he used in boardrooms. “David will be wondering where you are.”

The sound of her husband’s name in his mouth felt like a violation. She forced herself to meet his eyes. They held no warmth, only a mild curiosity, as if wondering why she was still there.

“Right,” she whispered.

The elevator descent was a slow-motion plunge. She closed her eyes, but the images flashed: his hands, large and possessive, gripping her hips hard enough to bruise. The obscene, wet sound of his thick cock driving into her ass, a stretch that still burned. She had wanted it, had arched back for it, craving the fullness, the brutal ownership. She had come with a choked scream, her body betraying her completely, while he watched her climax with detached appreciation.

Now, she felt hollow. Used up.

The key turned in her own front door with a sound louder than a gunshot. The warmth of the house, the faint smell of the lavender plug-in David liked, made her want to vomit.

“Hey, you’re late,” David called from the living room. The blue light of the television flickered. “Leftovers are in the fridge. How was the ‘late meeting’?”

She walked in, her body moving on autopilot. He was on the couch, wearing his old college sweatpants, a bowl of popcorn on his lap. Kind, oblivious David.

“Exhausting,” she said, the lie ash in her mouth. “Julian had a last-minute crisis.”

“That guy works you too hard,” David said, smiling up at her. He patted the cushion beside him. “Come sit. Mindless action movie is just starting.”

She couldn’t. The thought of his casual touch, his innocent hands on her, was unbearable. Her skin still felt the imprint of Julian’s grip.

“I’m just… really wired. I think I need a shower and to just crash.”

David’s face fell, just for a second, before he masked it with understanding. “Okay, babe. Long day. I get it.”

In the bathroom, she locked the door. She stripped, her clothes falling to the tile. In the mirror, she saw the faint red marks on her hips. Evidence. She turned on the shower as hot as she could stand and stepped under the scalding stream, scrubbing her skin raw with a loofah until it stung. She couldn’t wash away the feeling of him, the deep, internal ache. She shampooed her hair twice, but the memory of his breath on her neck, his whispered filth in her ear, was etched into her mind.

She thought of David, just a room away, trusting her. A sob hitched in her chest, but no tears came. She was a desert.

Later, in bed, she lay stiffly beside her sleeping husband. The digital clock read 2:17 AM. The quiet of the room was a physical pressure. David sighed in his sleep and rolled toward her, his arm flopping heavily across her waist.

Pam froze.

His touch was warm, gentle. It was nothing like Julian’s. It should have been a comfort. Instead, it felt like a cage. A lie. The guilt was a cold, lead weight in her stomach, crushing the last flicker of arousal that thinking of the penthouse, against her will, had sparked.

She carefully lifted his arm and slid out of bed. In the walk-in closet, she knelt in the dark. Her fingers found the small, locked jewelry box at the back of her shelf. She opened it with a tiny key. Inside, next to her grandmother’s pearls, lay the sleek, silver vibrator.

She didn’t take it to bed. She just sat there on the closet floor, the cool metal in her hand. The last time she’d used it, she’d been thinking of Julian while riding David. Now, the thought of either of them made her feel sick. The device was no longer a secret pleasure; it was a monument to her deceit, a tool of her fragmentation.

She put it back and closed the box. The lock clicked with finality.

Returning to bed, she stared at the ceiling. David’s steady breathing was a metronome counting down the seconds of her old life. The chapter with Julian was over. He had gotten what he wanted, and she was discarded. She should feel relief. She should feel free.

All she felt was a terrifying, quiet emptiness, wider and darker than the city view from Julian’s windows. And in that emptiness, a new, more frightening question began to form: if she was no longer Julian’s secret, then who the hell was she?
