Chapter 5: The Unwanted Dinner Guest
The silence in the house was a physical presence. It pressed in on her, thick and accusing. She had scrubbed her face raw in the upstairs bathroom, but she could still smell him on her skin, in her hair. For three days, she moved through the rooms like a ghost, jumping at every creak of the old floorboards. The blank document on her screen taunted her. Inspiration had arrived, in the most horrific and thrilling package possible, and she was too terrified to touch it.
On the second evening, with John due home the next day, she tried to reassert some normalcy. She baked a loaf of bread, the simple, repetitive motions a balm. The dining room was cozy in the firelight, the table set for one. The scent of yeast and baked warmth almost made her believe in the life she was supposed to be living.
A heavy knock at the back door shattered the illusion.
Her heart stuttered. Before she could move, the door opened. He just walked in, as if he owned the place. Bobby stood in the kitchen doorway, a bottle of cheap whiskey dangling from his fingers. He wore the same stained overalls, his beard a wild tangle in the low light. He was a truly disgusting man.
“Smelled the bread,” he said, his eyes not on the loaf cooling on the counter, but on her. On her thin, flower-print sundress.
He took two steps into the dining room. The homely space seemed to shrink around his presence. The firelight caught the silver in his beard, but it did nothing to soften him.
“You shouldn’t be in here,” Maggie whispered, backing up until the edge of the solid oak table pressed into the backs of her thighs.
He set the whiskey bottle down with a thud. “Made a mess of you the other day.” It wasn’t an apology. It was a statement of fact, a reminder of ownership. “Thought we’d have a proper visit this time.”
“No, Bobby, please.” The protest was automatic, hollow. He heard the lack of conviction.
He closed the distance in one swift, startling movement for a man his size. His hands, rough and broad, clamped on her hips. He spun her around and bent her forward over the table. Her palms flattened against the smooth wood, sending her waiting cutlery clattering.
“Bobby—!”
He gathered the soft fabric of her sundress in one fist and yanked it up to her waist. The cool air of the room kissed her bare skin. She hadn’t worn underwear. She’d told herself it was the heat. A lie. A thrilling, shameful lie.
A low, approving grunt vibrated from his chest. “Would you look at that.”
His calloused thumb traced the slick seam of her. She jerked, a moan ripped from her throat. She was already soaking wet, her body screaming a truth her mind refused to speak.
“Fuckin’ dripping for it,” he muttered, pushing a thick finger inside her without ceremony. She cried out, back arching, knees buckling. “Quiet,” he commanded, working the finger in and out, a crude, devastating mimicry. “Your good husband’s neighbors might hear.”
He withdrew the finger, leaving her clenching around empty air. He turned her back around to face him, hoisting her onto the edge of the table. Her dress was still bunched around her waist, her most private self exposed in the heart of her home. He dragged a chair over, the legs scraping loudly on the wood floor, and sat himself down heavily right in front of her.
“We’re gonna have supper,” he announced, as if discussing the weather. He popped the cap on the whiskey, took a long swig, and then held the bottle to her lips. “Drink.”
She took a gulp, the cheap liquor burning a fiery path down her throat. He pulled the bottle away, set it down, and picked up the bread knife. He sawed off a thick slice of the warm loaf, slathered it with butter from the dish, and took a massive bite. Crumbs fell into his beard.
“Eat,” he said, his mouth full.
With trembling hands, she broke off a piece of bread for herself. She was raising it to her mouth when his hand slipped between her splayed thighs.
She froze. His thumb found her clit again, circling with a maddening, deliberate pressure. A desperate sound escaped her.
“I said eat,” he repeated, his eyes locked on hers.
She put the bread in her mouth. It was sawdust. She chewed mechanically as his fingers worked her. One thick digit pushed back inside her, then two, stretching her, a blunt and undeniable invasion. Her hips gave a tiny, involuntary rock against his hand.
“That’s it,” he coaxed, his voice a gravelly rumble. “Feed that pretty mouth. I’ll feed this hungry cunt.”
The obscenity, spoken so casually in her dining room, sent a violent shudder through her. She moaned around the bread, her head lolling back. He fucked her with his fingers, the wet, rhythmic sound obscenely loud in the room, harmonizing with the crackle of the fire. Every pass of his thumb over her clit coiled the tension tighter in her belly.
“Please,” she gasped, not even knowing what she was begging for.
“Please what?” He took another bite of bread, chewing slowly, watching her unravel. His fingers never stopped their relentless rhythm.
“I…”
He crooked his fingers inside her, pressing up against a spot that made her vision blur. “Gonna come already? Just from my fingers? You’re a desperate little thing.”
She was. The climax tore through her with brutal, silencing force. Her body seized, back bowing, a silent scream on her lips as waves of raw pleasure-pain radiated out from her core. He kept his hand there, working her through it, until the sensations turned sharp and too much.
As the last tremors subsided, he withdrew his glistening fingers. He brought them to his own mouth, sucking them clean with a deliberate slowness, his eyes never leaving her flushed, devastated face.
“Bread’s good,” he said.
He stood up, his chair screeching again. He undid his overalls, and his cock, already fully erect and jutting out from his belly, was a terrifying sight in the firelight. He pushed her back until she was lying flat on the table, her head near her own plate. He spread her legs wide, hooking her knees over his forearms.
“This is what you wanted when you baked it, isn’t it?” he said, not waiting for an answer.
He drove into her with one deep, merciless thrust.
The air left her lungs in a choked gasp. He was too big, an impossible, burning fullness that bordered on agony. She could feel every vein, every ridge as he seated himself to the hilt inside her. He gave her no time to adjust.
He set a brutal, pounding pace, sliding the entire mess of her dress up around her ribs. Each slam of his hips drove her shoulders into the hard wood. The table jolted and screeched with every thrust, her fork clattering to the floor. Her cunt, still sensitive from her climax, burned and stretched, a devastating mixture of pain and blinding, unwelcome pleasure.
“Fuck,” he grunted, his breath coming in hot, whiskey-scented bursts. “Tight little married pussy. Made for this. For takin’ a real cock.”
He leaned over her, his bulk blotting out the firelight. One of his big, rough hands groped her breast through the cotton of her dress, squeezing hard. The other hand fisted in her red hair, holding her head still, forcing her to watch his face as he fucked her.
“See this?” he snarled, his pace becoming erratic, animalistic. “This is you now. My good girl. My secret.”
His words, his possession, tipped her over another edge. A second, sharper orgasm ripped through her, her internal muscles clamping around his invading length in rapid, pulsing contractions. He groaned, a sound of pure animal triumph.
“Yeah, milk it, you slut. Milk my fuckin’ dick.”
With three final, ragged thrusts, he shoved himself as deep as he could go and held there. A hot, liquid flood erupted inside her, pulse after pulse, filling her. She felt it, a shocking intimacy more profound than anything in the barn. He stayed buried in her for a long minute, both of them panting, dripping with sweat, the smell of sex and bread and woodsmoke a permanent stain on the air.
Slowly, he pulled out. The sound was lewd, followed by a trickle of his release onto her mother’s antique tablecloth.
He straightened up, fastening his overalls with calm efficiency, as if he’d just finished a minor repair. He looked down at her, sprawled and ruined on her own dining table.
“Wipe that up,” he said softly, nodding at the mess between her legs and on the cloth. “Wash the dishes.”
He picked up his whiskey bottle, took a final swig, and walked out the back door without another glance.
Maggie lay there, limply, for a long time. The fire died to embers. The room grew cold. When she finally pushed herself up, her body ached in new, profound ways. She looked at the sticky pool on the tablecloth, at her own reflection, wide-eyed and disheveled, in the dark window.
John would be home tomorrow. He would kiss her, ask about her week. She would tell him it was quiet. And she would know, as she washed the tablecloth in the sink, that nothing would ever be quiet again.
