Chapter 4: Forced Pleasure

The cell was a cube of polished obsidian, so dark and reflective it seemed to swallow the faint light from the corridor. Ruby lay on the floor, a thin thermal blanket the only concession to comfort. Her body was a map of phantom sensations—the ghost of the vibration, the echo of violation, the deep muscular ache of being used. The humiliating words she’d spoken to Thorne echoed in the silence. I belong to you. They had tasted like poison, but she had swallowed them.

The door hissed open, a vertical slit of harsh white light. Ruby flinched, curling inward.

It wasn’t Scar-brow or the blond assistant. It was Ami.

The scientist carried a simple tray: a covered dish, a carafe of water, a pill. Her expression was neutral, professional. She placed the tray just inside the door, which sealed shut behind her with a final sigh. They were alone.

“You need to eat,” Ami said, her voice softer than it had been in the lab. “Your metabolic rate is still elevated. The nutrient paste will help. The pill is a mild sedative and a cortical stabilizer. It will take the edge off.”

Ruby didn’t move. She watched Ami through the veil of her own tangled hair.

Ami sighed, a sound of minor irritation. She knelt, unlocked a nearly invisible panel low on the wall, and pulled out a collapsible stool. She sat, folding her hands in her lap. “Look, I’m not here to hurt you. I’m here to manage your homeostasis. Dr. Thorne wants you functional. Starving yourself or collapsing from nervous exhaustion doesn’t serve the project.”

“The project,” Ruby rasped, her throat sore. “I’m a project.”

“You’re a breakthrough,” Ami corrected, but there was no zeal in it. It was a statement of fact. “Now eat.”

The smell from the covered dish reached Ruby then—a bland, slightly sweet aroma. Her stomach, traitorous and empty, clenched. Hunger overpowered pride. She crawled forward, movements stiff, and lifted the cover. A beige, uniform paste. She scooped it with her fingers, shoveling it into her mouth. It was flavorless, a texture like thick pudding. She didn’t care. She ate greedily, washing it down with gulps of cool water. The pill she left on the tray.

Ami watched, saying nothing. When Ruby finished, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, Ami stood. “You should take the sedative. Sleep will aid cellular repair.”

“No,” Ruby said, the word automatic.

“Suit yourself.” Ami didn’t reach for the tray. Instead, she stepped closer. “Your musculature is visibly tense. Adrenaline crash. It’s inhibiting recovery.”

Before Ruby could react, Ami’s hands were on her shoulders. Ruby jerked away, but the touch was firm, insistent.

“Be still.” Ami’s fingers began to work at the knotted muscles of Ruby’s trapezius. The pressure was expert, deep. Against her will, a groan escaped Ruby’s lips. It was pain and relief intertwined. Her body, so long a vessel for violence, interpreted any touch as a threat. But this… this was different. A primal, physical response to the kneading of tight flesh.

“See?” Ami murmured, her voice closer to Ruby’s ear. “The body has its own logic. It wants to be cared for.”

The massage moved lower, down the line of Ruby’s spine. Ami’s hands were cool, dry, clinical. Yet the rhythm was intimate. Ruby felt her head droop forward, a dizzying lassitude seeping into her bones. The fight was gone, drained away by exhaustion and this sudden, shocking gentleness.

Ami’s hands slid around her ribs, coming to rest on the sides of her breasts. Ruby froze.

“Just releasing the pectoral fascia,” Ami said, her tone unchanged. Her thumbs brushed the undersides of Ruby’s breasts, then swept inward, circling her nipples with a feather-light touch.

A bolt of sensation, sharp and electric, shot through Ruby’s core. She gasped.

“The nipples are a nexus of nerve endings,” Ami continued, as if lecturing. “Stimulation triggers a cascade of endocrine responses.” She pinched one gently, then rolled it between her thumb and forefinger. It hardened instantly, a tight, aching peak. Ruby tried to pull away, but Ami held her in place, one arm snaking around her waist.

“Don’t,” Ruby whispered, but it was weak. Her body was betraying her again. A slow, familiar heat was pooling low in her belly, a warmth that spread despite the shame, despite the horror. The raw sensitivity from the hours of abuse was still there, but it was being remade into something else—a wretched, hungry ache.

“Your physiological readings are spiking,” Ami said, her breath against Ruby’s neck. “Heart rate elevated. Capillary dilation. Your body is responding. It remembers the stimulation. It’s conditioned for it now.”

One hand stayed on Ruby’s breast, tweaking and teasing the nipple until it was a throbbing, sensitive bud. The other hand dipped lower, over the plane of her stomach, through the rough thatch of hair, and found her clit.

Ruby jolted as if shocked.

“There it is,” Ami whispered. Her finger wasn’t rough. It was precise. It circled the swollen nub with a slow, maddening certainty. “See how wet you are? Already. Your cognitive resistance is irrelevant. Your body is smarter. It knows what it needs.”

“Stop… please…” Ruby choked out, but she was pushing her hips back against Ami’s hand, a involuntary, grinding motion she couldn’t control. Pleasure, awful and degrading, was building like a pressure wave. It was tangled with every violation, every dirty thing that had been done to her, and it made it all the more potent.

“You came for them,” Ami said, her voice a low, insidious monotony. “You’ll come for me. It’s just a chemical sequence. A release of tension. Let it happen.”

Ami increased the pace, her finger moving in tight, rapid circles. Her other hand squeezed Ruby’s breast hard. The dual sensation—the sharp pinch and the relentless friction—tipped Ruby over the edge. Her orgasm ripped through her, a convulsive, silent scream. Her back arched, her muscles locked, and a flood of wetness spilled over Ami’s fingers. It was a brutal, empty climax, leaving her shaking and gasping, tears of self-loathing streaking her cheeks.

Ami held her through the tremors, then slowly withdrew her hands. She stood, walked to a small sink in the wall Ruby hadn’t noticed, and washed her hands methodically. She dried them on a small towel.

She picked up the untouched pill from the tray and held it out with a glass of water. “Now you’ll sleep.”

Ruby, hollowed out and defeated, took the pill. She swallowed it without protest.

Ami collected the tray. At the door, she paused, not looking back. “The conditioning is working, Ruby. The sooner you accept it, the easier it will be. Your body already has.”

The door hissed shut, plunging Ruby back into the perfect black silence of the obsidian cell. The warmth of the orgasm was already fading, replaced by a deeper, more profound cold. She curled on the floor, the sedative beginning to drag her down into a dark, chemical ocean.

But in the last moments before unconsciousness, a single, clear thought surfaced through the shame. Ami had called her by her name. Her real name.

Not Subject One. Not the asset.

Ruby.

How did she know?

The question was a tiny, sharp hook in the vast dark. It was enough. It was a thread. And as oblivion took her, Ruby’s hand, hidden beneath her body, closed into a fist around it.
