Chapter 3: Theme Stated

The dimly lit restaurant, located in the heart of the city, was an exotic haven of rich fabrics, warm lighting, and an eclectic mix of antique furniture. The air was filled with the aroma of exotic spices and the soft hum of conversations. Sarah sat at a table near the window, sipping on a glass of crisp white wine, her gaze wandering over the bustling street outside.

Jess, her best friend since childhood, was already seated across from her, her round face flushed with excitement. She was always one to be enthusiastic, her eyes sparkling with a genuine joy that could light up even the gloomiest of rooms.

Sarah had always admired that about her.

"Sarah, you won't believe who I saw today!" Jess exclaimed, her voice barely containing her excitement.

Sarah raised an eyebrow, a small smile playing on her lips. "Oh, really? Do tell, Miss Gossip."

Jess rolled her eyes, her bubbly laughter filling the air. "I saw David Blake. You know, the rich, handsome"

Sarah's heart skipped a beat, a sudden warmth spreading through her at the mention of his name.

She quickly took a sip of her wine, hoping to hide her reaction.

"David Blake? The finance guy?" Sarah asked, trying to keep her voice casual. "What about him?"

Jess leaned in, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Well, for starters, he's even more gorgeous in person than his picture. And he's got this charm about him, Sarah. He's like... I don't know, like a modern-day Prince Charming."

Sarah laughed, unable to help herself. "Oh, Jess. You're hopeless. To finish their meal both of them eating more than they ever had. It was so good. Saarah felt like she could barely walk.

It had been a month Sarah and David had continued their dates with some increased frequency and giftgiving, weather the nd of the month here notice that her pants were really tight. She must've gained 15 pounds.

Sarah pulled at the waistband of her jeans, her breath coming out in a huff. She looked at her reflection in the mirror, her eyes tracing the curves that had once been hidden beneath baggy clothes. She turned to the side, inspecting the slight pooch that had appeared around her middle.

"Damn it, Sarah," she muttered to herself, her reflection frowning back at her. "You're supposed to be the one in control here. Not the other way around."

She sighed, running a hand through her hair. She knew she should be happy. She had a loving husband, a successful career, and a best friend who would do anything for her.
