Chapter 4: Izzy's Proposal
The garish, electric heat from the previous night had faded into a deep, muscular tenderness. Sitting in her first-period lecture, Lily shifted gingerly on the hard plastic seat, each movement a vivid reminder. It wasn’t just the lingering soreness; it was the memory of Chloe’s focused expression, the cool back of the brush, her own reflection in the mirror afterwards. The secret felt like a live creature sitting in her stomach, restless and warm.
Between classes, Chloe fell into step beside her, swinging her dance bag. “So,” she said, her voice a low, conspiratorial hum. “How’s the, uh, craft project today?”
“Don’t,” Lily muttered, feeling a fresh blush creep up her neck.
“I’m just asking! You walked like you were saddle-sore.” Chloe bumped her shoulder, a knowing glint in her eye. “Seriously, you okay?”
“I’m fine. It’s just… a lot.”
Chloe nodded, her smirk softening. “Yeah. Tell me about it.” She glanced around the crowded hallway. “Izzy was looking for you earlier. She seemed… extra. Might be the new meds or just standard Izzy chaos.”
A flicker of unease joined the creature in Lily’s gut. Isabella Rossi had a gravitational pull, a way of absorbing and amplifying information. Lily hadn’t told her. But Chloe might have.
The text came just after lunch: Hey weirdo. U home after school? Need 2 talk. Not bad! Just weird. Bring wine.
The ‘weird’ echoed. Lily’s thumbs hovered over the screen. Yeah. 3:30. Dad’s at work, mom’s at a seminar.
Perfect, Izzy replied, followed by a single, cryptic emoji: a 🔥.
By the time the front doorbell chimed, Lily’s room was prepped with a nervous energy. She’d straightened the comforter, hidden the implements in the top dresser drawer, and plugged in the string of fairy lights that glowed softly against the grey afternoon light. The half-glass of wine from a forgotten dinner sat on the nightstand, a prop for normalcy.
Izzy swept in, a gust of cold air and expensive perfume. She was all dramatic angles—sharp cheekbones, a black leather jacket, artfully distressed jeans. Her dark eyes scanned the room immediately, missing nothing. She shrugged off her jacket, revealing a silky camisole, and dropped her oversized bag on the floor.
“So,” Izzy said, without preamble, pulling a bottle of pinot grigio from her bag. “Chloe cornered me after dance. She was… buzzing.”
Lily’s heart sank. “What did she say?”
“Enough.” Izzy found two mismatched mugs on the dresser and poured generous glugs of wine. She handed one to Lily, her gaze direct and unnervingly bright. “She said you had a thing. A private thing. With… implements.” She took a long sip, her eyes never leaving Lily’s face. “And that she helped. And that it was intense.”
Lily felt exposed, as if Izzy could see the faint, yellowing echoes of yesterday’s stripes right through her jeans. “It’s not a big deal.”
“It sounds like a very big, very strange deal.” Izzy sat on the edge of the bed, crossing her legs. “Describe it. The feeling.”
The clinical demand was so like Izzy. She collected experiences, filed them away like jewels. Lily faltered, sipping the too-sweet wine. “It’s hard to describe. It just… focuses everything. The pain gets really loud, and then everything else gets quiet.”
“Huh.” Izzy tilted her head. “And you like that? The pain?”
“I don’t know if ‘like’ is the right word. I need it.” The admission, stripped bare, hung between them.
A slow smile spread across Izzy’s face, but it wasn’t mocking. It was recognition. “I get that.” She set her mug down with a decisive click. “See, I’ve always been curious about the other side.”
“What other side?”
“The giving side.” Izzy’s voice dropped, charged with a new energy. “The control. The… administering. I’ve read stuff. Thought about it. Never had a willing participant.” She leaned forward. “Chloe said you were a good one. That you took it well.”
Lily’s mouth went dry. “She said that?”
“In so many words.” Izzy’s gaze drifted to the top dresser drawer, as if she could see through the wood. “Here’s my proposal. A trade. I do it to you. Thoroughly. The way you apparently need it. Then, you do it to me.”
The world seemed to tip. “You want me to spank you?”
“I want to know what it feels like from both angles. Scientific method, babe.” Izzy’s tone was light, but her eyes were serious, hungry. “You explore your thing. I’ll explore mine. We both win.”
The logic was bizarrely sound. The fear was a cold wire, but under it, the restless creature in her stomach uncoiled with a surge of anticipation. Izzy wasn’t Chloe. There was no pretense of sisterly obligation. This was pure, mutual curiosity. It was terrifying. It was perfect.
“What if we hate it?” Lily whispered.
“Then we stop. And we never speak of it again over truly excessive amounts of pizza.” Izzy stood up, her movements precise. “Do we have tools? Chloe mentioned a hairbrush.”
Wordlessly, Lily went to the dresser and opened the drawer. She laid the ruler and the brush on the comforter. They looked different in the soft fairy light, less like tools of secret shame, more like instruments for a private ritual.
Izzy picked up the brush, running her thumb over the smooth, polished back. “Nice weight.” She looked at Lily. “You’re sure?”
Lily nodded, her throat tight. “You first.”
“Obviously.” Izzy’s smile was all sharp edges now. “Over the bed. Like you did for Chloe.”
The familiarity of the position was no comfort. This felt more formal, more intentional. Lily bent, gripping the edge of the mattress, the soft cotton of her t-shirt riding up. She heard Izzy move behind her, the rustle of denim as she positioned herself.
“Okay,” Izzy said, her voice calm, almost meditative. “Let’s see.”
The first smack of Izzy’s hand was an experiment. It landed with a crisp, dry sound. Lily flinched, more from the surprise of Izzy’s touch—cool, firm, definite—than from the pain.
“Feedback?” Izzy asked.
“Harder.”
The next one was. And the next. Izzy found a rhythm quickly, but it wasn’t Chloe’s methodical pace. It was varied, unpredictable. A flurry of sharp smacks, then a single, heavier one that made Lily gasp. She was studying her, learning what made her twitch, what made her fingers claw at the comforter.
“You’re tensing up. Breathe out.” Izzy’s instruction was quiet, authoritative.
Lily exhaled, and the next impact seemed to sink deeper, a wave of heat that spread and pooled. Izzy’s hands were smaller than Chloe’s, but her aim was meticulous. She spent a long time on the same area, layering sensation until the skin there felt alive and singing.
“Ready for the brush?”
Lily could only nod, her face pressed into the bedspread.
The cool wood touched her, a promise of a different kind of fire. Izzy took her time. The first strike was a lightning bolt, a clean, white-hot line of pure sensation. Lily cried out, a short, sharp sound.
“Good?” Izzy’s voice held a note of genuine inquiry.
“Again.”
Izzy complied. She was an artist with the brush. She used the flat for a broad, stunning slap, the edge for a biting, focused stripe. She orchestrated the pain, building it in crescendos, leaving Lily panting through the pauses. The universe dissolved into a narrow tunnel of feeling—the sting, the burn, the deep, rewarding throb, and Izzy’s quiet, focused breathing behind her.
A strange, coiled tension was building low in Lily’s belly, separate from the pain, intertwined with it. It was the same feeling from the night before, but amplified, fed by Izzy’s controlled intensity and her own utter vulnerability. Each crack of the brush wound the coil tighter. Her breaths became ragged moans, not just from hurt, but from a mounting, undeniable pressure.
“Izzy…” she panted, the name a plea.
Izzy paused. “Too much?”
“Don’t stop. Please.”
The next few strokes were measured, deliberate, landing on the most sensitized areas. The coil snapped. A shockwave of release tore through Lily, visceral and shocking in its intensity. She shuddered violently, a choked gasp escaping her as the sensations merged—searing pain and sharp pleasure blurring into one overwhelming cascade. She slumped over the bed, trembling, spent.
The brush was placed silently on the nightstand. Izzy’s hand, now just a hand, rested gently on Lily’s lower back, over the scorched fabric of her jeans. The touch was startling in its softness.
“Wow,” Izzy breathed, her voice full of genuine awe. “That was… instructional.”
Lily couldn’t speak. She was floating in the aftermath, raw and completely real.
After a minute, Izzy’s hand retreated. “My turn.”
The words pulled Lily back. She pushed herself up, moving like her bones were liquid. Izzy was already unbuttoning her jeans, pushing them down with a practical nonchalance. She bent over the same spot on the bed, her posture expectant. The contrast was jarring—Izzy’s skin was pale, unmarked, a blank canvas.
Lily picked up the ruler. It felt alien in her hand now, a tool of power instead of introspection. She looked at Izzy’s waiting form, at the curve of her back, and felt a tremor of uncertainty. This was the other side.
“Well?” Izzy said, her voice muffled by the bed. “Show me what I just showed you.”
Lily took a breath, and brought the ruler down.
The crack was too hesitant, a timid punctuation mark on the silent room. A faint pink line appeared on Izzy’s skin, but it looked like a whisper. Lily stared at it, disappointed in her own swing.
“That’s it?” Izzy craned her neck to look back, a smirk playing on her lips. “I barely felt a breeze. My nanny hit harder when I stole her cigarettes.”
The taunt landed, sparking something defiant. Lily’s grip tightened on the ruler. “Shut up.”
“Make me.”
The next swing had purpose. It landed with a sharper, fuller sound, a proper slap of wood on flesh. This time, Izzy jerked, a quick intake of breath her only concession.
Lily watched, fascinated, as a second, brighter line emerged parallel to the first. The geometry of it, the immediate proof of her action, was hypnotic. She put the ruler aside on the comforter.
“Hand now,” Izzy directed, her voice steady but tighter.
Lily’s palm met Izzy’s skin. The contact was intimate, warmer than the wood, the sting reverberating back into her own bones. She fell into a rhythm, trying to mimic the varied pace Izzy had used on her. Smack. Smack. A pause. Three in quick succession. The pale skin flushed a diffuse, heated pink, losing the neat lines and becoming a living, reactive canvas.
Izzy was silent, her breathing measured. Then, after a particularly solid smack that echoed, she hissed. “Okay. Okay, that’s starting to actually sting.”
A current of pure, dark satisfaction buzzed through Lily’s veins. She picked the ruler up again.
This time, she didn’t hesitate. She wielded it with a newfound confidence, aiming for the already-warmed skin. The impacts were crisper, deeper. Izzy’s shoulders tensed with each strike, her fingers knotting in the bedspread. A low “ungh” escaped her, forced out with the air from her lungs.
“The brush,” Izzy said, the words slightly breathless. “Get the brush.”
Lily swapped implements, the heavy, familiar handle a anchor in her hand. She touched the cool wood to the heated skin, feeling Izzy shiver.
“I’ve been spanked before,” Izzy said, her face turned away. “But only as punishment. My dad. Once, a boyfriend who was an asshole. It was always just… anger. Something to get through.”
She took a shaky breath as Lily lifted the brush. “This is different. I wanted this. Do you get that?”
Lily did. The permission was everything. It transformed the act from violence into something else, a shared creation. She brought the brush down.
The sound was dense and final. Izzy cried out, her body arching then melting into the mattress. Lily watched, mesmerized, as a perfect, rectangular bloom of crimson appeared on the pink. She did it again, landing it just beside the first.
Izzy’s composure shattered. She gasped, she moaned, she pushed back against each stroke. It wasn’t a performance. It was a raw, unraveling reaction, years of curated cool burning away in the sheer physicality of sensation she had chosen. The control she cherished was gone, surrendered willingly, and the loss of it seemed to exhilarate and devastate her all at once.
Lily kept going, guided by the map of Izzy’s reactions, until the brush felt like a lead weight in her arm. She stopped, letting the silence rush back in, thick with the smell of warm skin and spent energy.
Izzy didn’t move for a long minute. Then she pushed herself up slowly, wincing as the fabric of her camisole brushed her back. Her eyes were glassy, her mascara slightly smudged. She looked utterly dismantled.
A slow, real smile broke through, wide and unguarded. “Holy shit,” she whispered, her voice ragged. “The wanting… it changes the whole molecule.” She gingerly touched her own fingertips to the heated skin, flinching but fascinated.
She looked at Lily, really looked at her, seeing the girl who had just wielded the brush and the girl who, an hour ago, had been trembling over the bed. A silent, profound understanding passed between them, solid and new.
Izzy reached for her jeans, moving with a stiff carefulness that mirrored Lily’s own from the day before. “We need more wine,” she said, the casual statement a lifeline back to normality. “And we are definitely ordering that pizza.”
