Chapter 1: Chapter 1
The first time I saw her, I knew she was different. She was standing in the middle of a meadow, her back turned as she gazed at the stars. It was late autumn, and the sun was setting behind her, casting long shadows across the meadow. In the fading light, she looked like nothing I’d ever seen before. Her dark hair was long and tangled, her eyes were big and round, and her porcelain skin glowed in the fading light. She was tall and slender, with a willowy, ethereal quality to her that made her seem otherworldly. I watched her for a few moments, wondering who she was and what she wanted. Then I felt stupid for wondering.
