Chapter 1: The Fiery Proposal

The courtyard air tasted of ozone and rosewater. Alex kept his back to the cold marble of the Violet Citadel, trying to make himself smaller. All around him, students flowed in clusters of laughter and easy conversation. A human in apprentice robes demonstrated a minor illusion, sending shimmering butterflies over the head of a giggling gnome. A group of blood elves, their posture impossibly elegant, shared a bottle of shimmering wine that glowed from within. Their voices were a melody of arrogance and joy.

He felt like a stain on the tapestry.

He’d come out here to clear his head after six hours in the library, surrounded by treatises on ley-line convergence. The theory was manageable. The people were not. His palms were damp. He wiped them on his plain woolen trousers, a contrast to the silks and elaborate robes around him.

“Just look up,” he whispered to himself. “The sky is right there.”

The auroras above Dalaran churned, vast ribbons of emerald and violet weaving through the eternal twilight. They were beautiful, and for a second, he could almost forget the knot in his stomach.

Then the crowd near the silver fountain parted, and he saw her.

Lyra Sunwhisper moved like the conversations around her were just currents she was parting. Her stride was long, assured. Her gown was not the formal robe of a master, but something more personal: deep crimson silk that wrapped around her muscular frame, leaving her arms and a tantalizing stretch of her sun-tanned midriff bare. Her hair was a river of molten gold, catching the ambient magic-light and holding it. She was tall, taller than most of the humans, and the proud arc of her long ears only added to her commanding presence.

She was laughing at something a Draenei said, a sound like sparks cracking on a hearthstone. Confident. Radiant. Untouchable.

Alex looked away, his heart hammering against his ribs. Someone like that existed in a different universe. He focused on a crack in the marble tile between his boots.

The faint scent of sun-warmed cinnamon and something sharper, like smoldering paper, reached him first. The ambient chatter nearby dimmed. He forced his gaze up.

She was standing right in front of him. Inches away. Her bright green eyes were not looking around, not seeking someone more interesting. They were locked on his. The prismatic shadows from the stained glass spires played across the sharp planes of her face.

He stopped breathing.

“You’ve been staring at the ground for ten minutes,” she said. Her voice was lower than he’d imagined, warm but carrying an edge. “The interesting stuff is up here.”

“I… I was just…” Alex’s tongue felt like thick wool. He saw the amused curiosity in her eyes, the slight tilt of her head. He was drowning in her.

Lyra leaned in, closing the already minimal distance. Her heat washed over him. “What’s your name?”

“Alex.” It came out as a croak.

“Alex.” She repeated it, as if tasting the word. “First year? You have that ‘lost puppy in a library’ look.”

He managed a nod, utterly incapable of speech.

She glanced over her shoulder, then back at him. Her expression shifted. The playful amusement faded into something more intense, more direct. It was like watching a door slam shut on a party, leaving you alone in a quiet, focused room with her.

“Listen, Alex,” she said, her voice dropping so only he could hear it beneath the fountain’s hum and the distant music. “I’m bored. I’m tired of talking. I’m tired of the games.” Her green eyes didn’t waver. “I want to fuck you. Come with me. I’ll make you an ex-virgin.”

The world stopped. The laughter, the auroras, the very hum of magic in the air—it all dissolved into a high-pitched ring in his ears. His brain tried to process the words, to arrange them into a sentence that made sense coming from her, directed at him. It failed completely.

Before he could form a syllable of reply, her hand found his. Her fingers were long, strong, and surprisingly calloused. Her grip was undeniable.

She pulled.

His feet moved on their own, stumbling a step to catch up with her decisive stride. She was leading him away from the fountain, away from the crowds, toward a dim, shadowed archway on the far side of the courtyard that seemed to swallow the light.

“Wait,” he finally gasped, his legs obeying her pull even as his voice protested.

She didn’t slow. “Why?”

“I… you don’t… you don’t know me.” It was a stupid thing to say, the lamest possible protest, but it was all his shattered mind could provide.

She glanced back, a flicker of something that wasn’t quite a smile touching her lips. “I know enough. You’re nervous. You’re honest. And you haven’t run away screaming.” She gave his hand a slight, almost imperceptible squeeze. A secret. “That’s more promising than most.”

They passed under the archway, leaving the kaleidoscope of the courtyard for the cool, blue-hued stone of a secluded terrace. The sounds of the party muffled into a distant murmur. Vines with glowing purple flowers climbed the walls. Ahead was a door of dark oak, slightly ajar.

Lyra stopped here, turning to face him fully. In the quieter semi-darkness, her confidence seemed to vibrate at a different frequency. It was less performative, more concentrated. He could see the pulse in her throat. Her eyes searched his face, not with predatory hunger, but with a stark, breathtaking clarity.

“Last chance to say no,” she said. Her tone was flat, offering a genuine out. But her grip on his hand remained. It was warm. It was real.

Alex’s mind was a blank, white static. All his anxiety, his self-doubt, his endless cycles of overthinking—they were gone, blasted away by the sheer visceral shock of her. He was terrified. He was more alive than he’d ever been. The weight of his inexperience felt like a stone in his gut, but the look in her eyes… it didn’t feel like mockery. It felt like an invitation to step off a very high cliff.

He didn’t want to run. The realization was quiet and absolute.

He said nothing. He simply shook his head, a tiny, brittle movement.

A slow breath escaped her, a tension he hadn’t fully noticed leaving her shoulders. For a fraction of a second, something raw and unguarded flickered in her expression. It wasn’t triumph. It looked like relief.

“Good,” she murmured, more to herself than to him.

Then she pushed the dark door open and drew him inside, out of the glow of the auroras and into the private dark.

The room was small, a scholar’s retreat gone quiet. A lone, low couch piled with cushions, a desk stacked with chaotic scrolls. The air was cool and still. Lyra released his hand. The door clicked shut behind them, and the sound was terribly final.

She didn’t look at him. She moved to the center of the room, her back to him, and began to undress.

There was no ceremony to it. No slow seduction. It was swift, almost clinical. The fastenings of her crimson gown gave way under her practiced fingers. The silk sighed as it slid from her shoulders, down the muscular taper of her back, over the spectacular curve of her ass, and pooled on the stone floor. She stood completely naked, her back still turned.

Alex’s breath caught. He had never seen anything so beautiful. The line of her spine, the powerful shoulders, the dimples at the base of her back framing an ass that was pure, sculpted perfection. The glow from a enchanted crystal on the desk bathed her skin in soft light, turning it to dusky gold. He was still paralyzed, his brain a stuck clock, admiring the view and utterly unable to process the sequence of events that had led here.

This was it. This was the moment. She had done this many times. It always, without any exception, ended in the same way. A gasp. A laugh, sharp and cruel. A look of disgust. Sometimes a shouted insult, a threat. Once, a thrown bottle. The memory was a cold knot in her gut. Meanwhile she was desperate, only her iron self-control hid it. This young, shy human would probably run screaming too. He looked like he might faint just from the sight of her back. She had no patience anymore for the slow reveal, for the hopeful, crumbling tension.

She took a sharp breath, and turned around.

Alex stared.

His mind simply stopped. It deleted all prior data, all context, and could only process the sheer, shocking physical reality before him.

There was no vagina.

Between her strong, tapered thighs hung a cock. It was not a modest anomaly. It was massive. Flushed and heavy, already half-erect, it was longer and thicker than he thought possible on any humanoid body. It was utterly, devastatingly male, set against the otherwise entirely female landscape of her. The contradiction was absolute.

He was stunned.

His eyes widened. His mouth went dry. A primal part of his brain, the part that recognized threat or profound wrongness, screamed a silent alarm. But another part, a deeper, more instinctual circuitry, fired at the sheer, explicit carnality of her. His body betrayed him completely. A hot, insistent rush of blood surged to his own groin, and he felt himself harden painfully against the confines of his trousers. The reaction was immediate, humiliating, and entirely out of his control.

He didn’t know what to do at all. He didn’t know what to say, where to look. His gaze flickered from her face—set in a mask of defiant expectation—down to the shocking evidence of her body, and back again. The silence in the room was a physical pressure.

Lyra watched the play of emotions on his face: the shock, the confusion, the flicker of panic. She saw his body’s response, the tightening of his trousers. It didn’t feel like a victory. It felt like a prelude to the same old disaster. Her voice, when it came, was flat, stripped of all its earlier warmth, a blade edge held between them.

“See?” she said. The word was quiet, heavy with the weight of every past failure. “Now you know. So. What happens next?”

He froze. His mind was a blank page, a silent room. The air between them crackled, thick with the unsaid thing. He opened his mouth. Nothing came out. He tried again, a dry click in his throat.

The words, when they finally broke loose, tumbled out in a clumsy, stammering cascade.

“I’m… I’m a virgin.” He swallowed, his eyes wide and fixed on hers, as if anchoring himself there was the only way not to drown. “All I knew, theoretically, is… shattered. I’m way out of my depths.” He took a shaky breath, the admission hanging there. Then his gaze, full of terrified wonder, swept over her form once more, not with disgust, but with a kind of awe. “I only know you are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.”

The silence that followed was different.

Lyra had braced for impact. For the gasp, the recoil, the cruel laugh, the hurried grabbing of clothes. She had recited the script in her head a thousand times. Her body was tensed for the blow.

His words didn’t fit the script.

Woman.

He had called her a woman. Not a monster. Not a thing. Not a freak. His voice had been thick with overwhelming shock, yes, but beneath the terror was a raw, undisguised honesty that felt like a physical touch. He was looking at her—all of her—and calling her beautiful. The contradiction in his own body, the obvious, helpless arousal tenting his trousers, confirmed it wasn’t empty flattery. It was a biological truth he was too stunned to hide.

The realization was a slow, thawing heat in her chest, melting the icy armor she’d clenched around herself. Her defiant stance, the challenging glare—it wavered. The sharp edge in her eyes softened into something more complex: confusion, relief, and a vulnerability so foreign it was frightening.

He was paralyzed. She was, for the first time in years, adrift.

He is not the only one who doesn’t know what to do.

The thought was quiet, terrifying, and utterly freeing.

She let out a breath she hadn’t realized she’d been holding. The sound was soft, deflating. The militant tension in her shoulders eased. She didn’t move to cover herself. The defensiveness simply… dissolved, leaving her naked in a way that had nothing to do with skin.

“Way out of your depths,” she repeated, her voice quieter now, almost wondering. A faint, genuine smile touched her lips, not the dazzling, performative one from the courtyard, but something smaller, real. “Yeah. I can see that.”

She took a single step toward him. Not the aggressive stride from before, but a hesitant, almost testing step. The space between them, which had felt like a chasm, now felt charged with a new, fragile energy.

“The theory’s shit anyway,” she said, her tone shifting into something more direct, but softer at the edges. “Forget it. This is just… this. Two people in a room.” She gestured vaguely between them. “You’re overwhelmed. I’m… I’m past pretending this is simple. So we start there. Okay?”

Alex nodded, a jerky, mechanical movement. He was still trembling, but his eyes hadn’t left her face. “Okay,” he whispered.

“Good,” she murmured. She looked at him, really looked—at his wide, kind eyes, at the blush staining his cheeks, at the obvious, embarrassing proof of his attraction fighting with his sheer terror. The power dynamic had subtly, irrevocably shifted. She was no longer the predator leading the lamb. They were both in uncharted territory.

She closed the remaining distance until she was just a foot away. He had to look up slightly to meet her gaze. The scent of her, cinnamon and arcane smoke, enveloped him.

“So, virgin,” she said, and the word held no mockery now. “Do you want to touch me?”
