Chapter 8: The Morning After
The first grey light of dawn filtered through the blinds, painting slow-moving stripes across the rumpled sheets and the two bodies tangled within them. Darla woke to the solid, warm weight of an arm around her waist, the steady rhythm of breathing against the back of her neck. The memory of the night before was a warm hum under her skin, a physical echo in the pleasant ache between her thighs. She lay still for a long moment, cataloging the feel of Alexis’s skin against hers, the smell of her—clean sweat and something uniquely earthy, like sun on dry grass.
Carefully, she slipped from the embrace, the cool air kissing her naked skin as she stood. Alexis made a soft, grumbling sound in her sleep, her hand searching the empty space before stilling. A smile touched Darla’s lips. She padded silently across the slate floor, through the living room where their clothes lay in discarded heaps, and into the kitchen.
The space was a revelation of sleek lines and morning sun. Polished concrete floors, warm walnut cabinets with glass fronts revealing neatly stacked dishes. And there, at the six-burner stove, was Alexis.
She wore only a pair of soft, grey sweatpants slung low on her hips and a loose white tank top. The thin cotton did nothing to hide the powerful lines of her back, the play of shoulder muscles as she deftly moved a spatula. The freckles Darla had traced with her tongue last night were now just a constellation across sun-kissed olive skin, visible where the tank top slipped down her shoulder. The scent of frying eggs, rich butter, and freshly brewed espresso wove through the air.
Darla moved on silent feet. She wrapped her arms around Alexis’s waist from behind, pressing her bare breasts against the warm, firm plane of her back. She buried her face in the honey-brown dreadlocks, inhaling deeply. “Good morning,” she murmured, her voice sleep-rough.
Alexis didn’t startle. She leaned back into the touch, a low, content sound vibrating in her chest. She turned in the circle of Darla’s arms, the spatula still in her hand. Her hazel eyes, free of their usual guarded intensity, were soft with sleep and something else—a quiet wonder. The green in them was muted in the morning light, like moss under water.
“Morning,” Alexis said, her deep voice a rumble that traveled through Darla’s skin.
They shared a kiss. Slow. Tender. A lazy exploration that tasted of mint toothpaste and the promise of coffee. It was a different language from the frantic, confessing kisses of the night before. This one spoke of shared space, of a new day begun together.
They settled at the marble island, perched on stools. Alexis pushed a plate of perfectly scrambled eggs and buttered sourdough toast toward Darla, along with a mug of coffee, light and sweet just as she’d remembered from the office. They ate in comfortable silence, knees touching under the counter. Darla watched the way Alexis ate with a focused efficiency, the way her long fingers curled around her black coffee mug. The purple bruise on Darla’s cheekbone felt less tender here, in this clean, quiet light.
Then her phone buzzed.
It was a violent, abrasive sound against the quiet. It skittered on the marble near her elbow. The screen lit up.
Marcus: We need to talk.
Two seconds of pristine silence. Then the vibration came again, insistent.
Marcus: Where are you?
The peace shattered. The eggs turned to ash in Darla’s mouth. Her jaw tightened, a muscle flickering. She saw not the words, but his face—the contempt, the sudden rage, the open hand. Her breath hitched, shallow and sharp.
Alexis’s hand closed over hers, warm and certain. Her thumb stroked Darla’s knuckles. “Hey.” Her voice was low, steady, an anchor in the sudden storm. “He has no power here. Not in my house.” Her eyes held Darla’s, not just comforting but protective, a flinty certainty in their green-flecked depths. “You are safe here.”
Darla looked from their joined hands to Alexis’s face. The fear curdled, transformed. It became a hard, clean anger. Without a second thought, she picked up the phone, thumbed the side button, and watched the screen go black. She placed it face down on the cold marble with a final, decisive click.
“I don’t want to think about him,” Darla said, the words flat and hard.
A slow, knowing smile spread across Alexis’s face. It was a different smile than any Darla had seen at the office. It was all woman, all heat, all promise. “I think I can help with that.”
Alexis stood up. She came around the island, her movements deliberate. She didn’t rush. She cradled Darla’s face in her hands, her thumbs gently avoiding the bruised skin, and kissed her. It started where the morning kiss left off—soft, searching—but then it changed. Darla’s lips parted on a gasp and Alexis took advantage, the kiss deepening into something urgent, claiming. It ignited the dormant need from the night, fanning it into a fresh, desperate flame.
Darla met the hunger with her own, her hands fisting in the soft cotton of the tank top. A plate clattered, pushed aside. A fork hit the concrete floor with a sharp ping. They didn’t notice.
Before rational thought could intervene, Darla was being lifted, her bare thighs settling on the cold, smooth marble of the island top. Alexis stepped between her legs, never breaking the kiss. Their bodies aligned, heat to heat. This was different from the exploratory reverence of the couch. This was rougher, more impatient, fueled by the twin engines of desire and a shared, defiant need to obliterate the outside world.
Hands wandered now familiar places with a new sense of ownership. Darla tugged the tank top up and over Alexis’s head, exposing the lean lines of her torso, the small, perfect breasts Darla now knew the taste of. Her mouth followed her hands, teeth scraping a nipple, earning a sharp, guttural groan from Alexis.
“Your turn,” Alexis growled, her hands sliding up Darla’s outer thighs, pushing them wider.
They took turns. Devouring. It was a feast. Darla lay back on the cold marble, arching as Alexis’s mouth found the heart of her, licking with a focused intensity that had Darla crying out, her hands scrambling for purchase on the slick surface. Then, in a tangle of limbs, their positions reversed, Darla on her knees on the hard floor, Alexis bracing herself against the island edge, head thrown back as Darla’s tongue and fingers worked their own magic.
Time lost meaning. It was measured in gasps, in the slap of skin, in the wet, aching sounds of their joining. Fingers slipped inside, curling, stroking, claiming. The world narrowed to the four walls of the kitchen, to the taste of sweat and salt and each other, to the building, unbearable pressure.
It was hotter, heavier, a sustained peak that seemed to have no end. Darla was on her back on the island again, her legs hooked over Alexis’s shoulders, her entire universe the rhythm of Alexis’s mouth and the two fingers moving deep inside her. A fourth climax tore through her, sharper than the others, a wave of pure, mindless sensation. As she shattered, the word was ripped from her throat, raw and unbidden.
“Daddy…”
The second it left her lips, she froze. Her eyes flew open. Alexis went still above her.
A wave of cold horror washed through the heat. “Shit,” Darla panted, her hands coming up to cover her face. “Alexis, I’m so sorry. I don’t know why I—”
Alexis gently pulled her hands away. She leaned down, her face close. Her expression was unreadable for a heartbeat. Then she kissed Darla, slow and deep, swallowing the apology. She pulled back just enough to speak, her voice a dark, warm velvet that seeped into Darla’s bones.
“It’s fine.” A smirk, both wicked and tender, touched her lips. Her hazel eyes held no judgment, only a profound, accepting heat. “I like it.”
“I like it.”
The two words dissolved Darla’s horror into pure, liquid heat. The acceptance in Alexis’s eyes was absolute, a permission slip for a desire she hadn’t even known was curled inside her. The smirk on Alexis’s lips was a challenge and a promise. It unraveled something in Darla, a thread of inhibition that had survived everything else. She felt a new, dangerous power surge through her veins, mingling with the aftershocks of her climax.
She leaned up on her elbows, the cold marble biting into her skin. She didn’t look away.
“In that case…” Darla purred, her voice dropping to a husky register she barely recognized. Something defiant and playful clicked into place behind her ribs, a direct response to the text now burning a hole in the counter. “I want you to fuck me…Daddy.”
The way Darla said it, with that deliberate, challenging cadence, made Alexis’s eyes roll back for a brief, stunning second. A sharp, visceral throb of need pulsed between her own legs. She inhaled, a sharp sound through her nose.
“Wait here.” Alexis’s voice was deep, layered with an authoritative calm that instantly made the heat in Darla’s belly spike into a blaze. She stepped back, her bare feet silent on the concrete. “I have just the thing.” Her gaze was a command. “Don’t you dare move a muscle.”
She turned and walked out of the kitchen, her stride purposeful, the muscles in her back flexing. Darla watched her go, the empty space feeling charged. The silence was a living thing. She could feel the cool air on her wet skin, could hear the distant hum of the refrigerator. Her own heartbeat was a drum in her ears.
She swallowed. Her fingers twitched against the marble.
“Hurry back…” Darla called out, letting a pout seep into her tone. She let her head loll back dramatically. “…or I’ll have to finish without you.” Her own hand, as if with a mind of its own, slipped down from her stomach. Her fingertips brushed through the wetness between her legs.
She gasped at her own touch, oversensitive and electric.
“You do that,” Alexis’s voice floated down the hall from the bedroom, clear and unwavering, “and you won’t get what I have in store for you.”
Darla dramatically sighed, a loud, performative sound. “Fiiine.” But her fingers didn’t stop. They moved in slow, teasing circles, her hips giving a tiny, reflexive jerk. She bit her lip to stifle a moan, then let it out anyway, poorly muffled. It was a test. A provocation. She listened to the sounds from the bedroom—a drawer opening, the soft jangle of leather and hardware.
As Alexis was in her walk-in closet, securing the heavy black harness around her hips, she could hear Darla’s poorly muffled moans drifting down the hall. The sounds were greedy, escalating. She was touching herself and getting close, from the sound of it. A slow smile touched Alexis’s lip as she adjusted the straps, the weight of the silicone a familiar, welcome pressure. It had been a while since she’d had a brat in her bed, but she was more than willing to take on the challenge.
She took a moment, centering herself in the feeling of the harness, the deliberate shift in her posture it required. She selected the toy—thick, veined, a daunting seven inches of matte black silicone. She attached it with a decisive click. The transformation was not one of gender, but of intent. She was armed.
She walked back down the hall, her steps measured. The sight that greeted her in the kitchen was designed for maximum effect. Darla was still sprawled on the island, but her legs were spread wider, one hand tucked behind her head, the other moving between her thighs with a lazy, ta rhythm. Her eyes were half-lidded, watching the doorway.
Alexis stopped at the threshold, letting herself be seen. The harness cut across her hips, the stark black against her skin, the toy jutting forward with a blunt, undeniable presence.
“Hmm.” Alexis’s voice was a low hum that vibrated in the quiet room. She leaned a shoulder against the doorframe, crossing her arms. “I thought I said something about not moving a muscle.”
Darla’s hand stilled. Her eyes, now fully open, drank in the sight. Her throat worked as she swallowed. All the playful bravado was still there, but beneath it ran a current of pure, awestruck want. “You took too long,” she breathed, but the defiance was thinner now, layered with anticipation.
“I decide what’s too long.” Alexis pushed off the doorframe and walked forward. The distance between them closed with each silent step. She stopped at the island, her gaze traveling the length of Darla’s body—the sweat-slicked skin, the heaving chest, the dark bruise on her cheek, the wanton abandon of her pose. “The rules are simple now. You come when I say you can. Not before.”
She reached out and wrapped her hand around Darla’s ankle. Her grip was firm, not painful. She pulled, guiding Darla’s body toward the edge of the marble until her ass was perched on the lip, until Alexis stood flush between her thighs. The cool, slick silicone pressed against Darla’s inner thigh, a shocking contrast to the heat radiating from her.
Darla’s breath caught. Her playful pout vanished. Her eyes were huge, locked on Alexis’s.
Alexis leaned over her, bracing one hand on the marble beside Darla’s head. She brought her other hand between them, fingers sliding through Darla’s wetness, coating the length of the toy with a slow, deliberate stroke. The sound was obscenely quiet. “You called me something,” Alexis murmured, her mouth close to Darla’s ear. “Now you’re going to show me what you meant by it.”
The air in the kitchen thickened, charged with the scent of sex and defiance. Darla’s breath hitched as the cool, slick silicone pressed insistently against her. Her playful bravado evaporated, replaced by a trembling, raw anticipation that made her veins feel too full. She looked up at Alexis, whose hazel eyes were no longer soft with morning wonder, but focused with an intensity that pinned Darla to the marble.
“Show me,” Alexis repeated, the command a low vibration.
Darla’s answer was a slow, deliberate roll of her hips, taking the first inch with a soft, open-mouthed gasp. It was a surrender and an act of will. Her hands scrabbled for purchase on the cold, hard surface beside her. Alexis held still, letting her adjust, the muscles in her jaw tight with restraint. Her gaze never wavered from Darla’s face, watching every flicker of feeling.
“More,” Darla whispered, the word tearing from her throat.
Alexis obeyed with a controlled, punishing slowness. She pushed forward, filling her, the stretch a breathtaking fusion of pleasure and overwhelming sensation. Darla cried out, her head falling back, the tendons in her neck standing in sharp relief. The world dissolved into pure physicality—the unyielding marble beneath her, the solid heat of Alexis above her, the profound, stretching fullness within her.
“Look at me.” Alexis’s voice was a rope thrown into the storm.
Darla forced her eyes open, her vision blurry. She met that relentless gaze. Alexis began to move. It was not a frantic rhythm, but a deliberate, deep claiming. Each thrust was measured, devastatingly accurate, aimed at the core of her. The harness leather creaked softly, a counterpoint to Darla’s ragged breaths and the wet, rhythmic sound of their joining.
“Is this what you wanted?” Alexis asked, her voice dangerously calm even as a sweat broke out across her brow. She angled her hips, changing the pressure, and Darla saw stars.
“Yes—“
“Say it.”
“Daddy,” Darla moaned, the title now a plea, a confirmation, a sacred secret in the sunlit room. It unlocked something in both of them. Alexis’s control fractured, just for a moment. Her thrusts lost their precise calibration, gaining a rough, hungry urgency. She leaned down, capturing Darla’s mouth in a kiss that was all tongue and teeth, swallowing the broken, rhythmic sounds Darla made with each deep drive.
Darla’s climax built not as a wave, but as a tectonic shift, deep and inevitable. It started low in her belly, a coiling pressure that tightened with every inward stroke. Her legs wrapped around Alexis’s harness-clad hips, pulling her deeper, closer. She was babbling, half-words, promises, curses. The world whited out at the edges.
“Now.” Alexis commanded, her voice guttural against Darla’s throat.
Permission granted, Darla shattered. The release was seismic, wracking her entire body with violent, endless tremors. A silent scream ripped through her, her back arching off the marble. Alexis rode her through it, her movements becoming short, sharp jerks as she chased her own finish, her forehead damp against Darla’s shoulder.
When it was over, the quiet was absolute. The only sound was their synced, ragged breathing. Alexis carefully withdrew, her hands gentle as they smoothed over Darla’s trembling thighs. She unhooked the harness, letting it and the toy drop to the floor with a soft, heavy thud. Then she gathered Darla into her arms, lifting her from the cold island as if she weighed nothing.
She carried her down the hall, not to the bedroom, but into a spacious, steam-filled bathroom. The shower was already running, a pre-set program from her morning routine. Steam curled around the glass tiles. Alexis stepped in, pulling Darla under the hot, needle-sharp spray.
The water washed away the sweat, the evidence of their frenzy. Alexis reached for a bottle of sage-and-sandalwood body wash, her hands moving over Darla’s skin with a tenderness that contrasted violently with their kitchen confrontation. She carefully lathered Darla’s shoulders, her back, avoiding the tender bruise on her face. She knelt to wash her legs, her movements reverent.
Darla stood there, boneless, watching the water stream through Alexis’s dreadlocks, over the freckles on her shoulders. The intensity of the last hour receded, leaving a hollow, aching vulnerability in its wake. Her eyes stung, and it wasn’t from the spray.
“Hey,” Alexis said softly, standing again, her hands coming up to cradle Darla’s face. “What’s this?”
A tear escaped, mixing with the shower water. Then another. “I just…” Darla swallowed, her throat tight. “No one has ever… seen me like that. And stayed.”
Alexis’s expression softened. She pulled Darla against her, skin to skin under the cascading water. “I’m not going anywhere.” She kissed her temple. “All of you. The sharp mind, the terrible jokes in the office, the defiance, the tears. It’s a package deal.”
They stayed under the water until it ran lukewarm. Wrapped in thick, charcoal-grey towels, they migrated back to the rumpled bed. Darla’s phone, still face-down on the kitchen island, was a forgotten ghost. For now.
Darla lay curled into Alexis’s side, her head on her chest, listening to the strong, steady heartbeat. The sun was higher now, painting the room in bold, confident stripes.
“We have to go back out there eventually,” Darla said quietly, her finger tracing a pattern on Alexis’s stomach. “Marcus. Work. All of it.”
Alexis’s hand stilled in her hair. “I know.” She took a deep breath. “At work… nothing can change. You know that, right? The suits, the voice, the ‘Alex’ persona. It has to stay.”
Darla nodded against her skin. “I know. It’s your armor.” She tilted her head up. “But in here? When it’s just us?”
“When it’s just us,” Alexis said, her voice firm, “you get Alexis. You get Lex. You get…” she gestured vaguely toward the hallway, toward the harness on the bathroom floor, a faint smirk returning, “…whatever that was. All of it.”
“I can work with that.” Darla smiled, a real one that reached her eyes. She stretched, then winced, feeling the pleasant ache in new places. “I’m starving again. We burned through those eggs.”
“I’ll order in,” Alexis said, reaching for her own phone on the nightstand. “Anything you want.”
“Everything,” Darla said, snuggling closer. “I want everything.”
As Alexis scrolled through a delivery app, a notification banner popped up at the top of her screen. It was an email from the office server, flagged as high priority by the system. The subject line was stark: ‘Security Incident Review – D. Carter / A. Logan Access Logs.’
Alexis’s thumb hovered. The cozy, insulated world of the bed seemed to chill by several degrees. She dismissed the notification without opening it, her jaw tightening.
“What is it?” Darla murmured, sensing the shift in her body.
“Nothing,” Alexis said, her voice carefully light. She selected a brunch place. “Just work spam.” She typed in an order for pancakes, bacon, and an absurd amount of coffee, but her mind was already turning, clicking into a different, more familiar gear—analytical, suspicious, protective.
The outside world wasn’t just knocking. It was beginning to pry.
