Chapter 1: The Contract Signed in Silk

The silk was cool against his knees, a startling contrast to the dry heat of the LA afternoon bleeding through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Aidan kept his gaze fixed on a point just over Freya’s shoulder, where a neon sign flickered to life against the deepening twilight. The room smelled of expensive jasmine and the faint, clean scent of ozone from the air filtration system.

“Look at me,” she said. Her voice was quieter here, away from the entourage and the cameras. Softer, but no less absolute. He lowered his eyes. Freya Vance stood before him, a silhouette against the watercolor smear of sunset. She wore a robe of some material so sheer it was barely a suggestion, the lines of her body—the famous statuesque figure—etched in muted gold by the dying light. Her platinum hair was down, falling in a straight, perfect sheet. Her green eyes didn’t blink.“You read the contract,” she stated. It wasn’t a question. “The NDAs.The non-compete. The… specificity of duties.”

“I did.”

“And you’re still here.”

“The salary was persuasive.”

A ghost of a smile touched her lips.“Honest.I pay for honesty, too. It’s rarer than you’d think.” She took a single step forward. The silk whispered. “But the money is for your discretion. For your time. For your obedience. What I’m about to ask for… that requires something else.Something I can’t buy with a wire transfer.”

Aidan remained still. His training kicked in, an old habit: assess, don’t react. Her breathing was slow and controlled, but the pulse in her throat was visible, a tiny, frantic dance.

“Everyone wants a piece of me,” she continued, her gaze drifting to the sprawling city below. “The photographers, the brands, the fans. They all take their slice. They get the version of me they paid for.Smiling Freya.Seductive Freya. Ethereal Freya.” She turned the full force of her eyes back on him.“None of them get the real one. Do you understand?”

“I’m beginning to.”

“Good.” She let the robe slip from her shoulders. It pooled at her feet without a sound. She was utterly bare, skin glowing in the half-light, a living sculpture. There was no modesty in her stance, only a chilling, absolute ownership.“Your first task. You will worship every inch of me. And you will not use your hands.”

Aidan’s breath hitched, just once.He forced it steady.

“This isn’t about pleasure,” she said, as if reading the question in his silence. “Not primarily. It’s a test. Can you sublimate your own… instincts… to my instruction? Can you be a tool I can rely on?” She moved to the edge of the vast bed, the silk coverings sighing under her weight. She leaned back on her elbows, a queen on a dais.“My life is a series of transactions. I want one that isn’t. I want a ritual.”

She parted her thighs, the movement deliberate, unashamed.“Start here,” she commanded, her voice dropping to a low thrum. “Prove you’re more than just another hired hand.”

For a long moment, Aidan didn’t move. The analytical part of his mind cataloged the scene: the vulnerability of the pose, the challenge in her eyes, the incredible, terrifying intimacy of it.This was a different kind of battlefield. He had taken the job out of necessity, a stopgap after his own life had unraveled. He’d expected schedules, security, managing her insane world. Not this.

But he had also seen the flicker in her eyes when she’d said ‘real one’.Not loneliness, exactly. A deeper, more profound frustration.A starvation.

He closed the distance, the silk soft under his palms as he knelt between her legs. He could feel the heat radiating from her skin, smell a sharper, cleaner scent beneath the jasmine. He kept his hands locked behind his back, muscles taut.

He didn’t dive in.He looked up, meeting her emerald stare.A silent question. A last check. Her gaze was unwavering.“Show me,” she whispered. He lowered his head. The first touch of his tongue was tentative, an exploration. She was already wet, a fact that sent a jolt through him.He found a rhythm, focused, precise. He applied the ruthless discipline he’d learned in another life to this utterly foreign act.Listening. Responding to the slight tensing of her hips, the quickening of her breath.

A soft sound escaped her, not a moan, but a sigh of release, as if she’d been holding a breath for years. Her hand came down, not to guide him, but to rest lightly on the back of his head, her fingers tangling in his short hair. It wasn’t a caress. It was an anchor.

He lost time in the texture and taste of her, in the quiet, broken sounds she made above him. This was the worship she demanded. Not adoration, but devotion to the act itself. To her will.

When her body finally shuddered, it was a controlled collapse, a silent wave that rolled through her and left her trembling. He drew back, breathing hard, his own body screaming in protest at the strain and the intense, unwanted arousal.

She was looking at the ceiling, her chest rising and falling. For a moment, the famous Freya Vance was gone. In her place was just a young woman, spent and strangely fragile.

Then the mask slid back into place. She pushed herself up, swinging her legs off the bed. She didn’t reach for the robe.“You passed,” she said, walking to the window. She stared at her reflection in the dark glass, at him still kneeling behind her. “But that was just the prerequisite.”

She turned, leaning against the cool pane. The neon light from outside painted a streak of pink across her torso.

“Tomorrow, we begin in earnest.I have a fantasy. It’s elaborate. It requires a specific… prop.” Her eyes flickered down to his trousers, then back to his face. A blunt, unvarnished assessment. “We’ll see if you’re fitted for the part.”

She gestured a dismissal, a faint wave of her hand.“You can go. Be here at seven. And Aidan?”

He stood, his muscles stiff.

“Nothing that happens here leaves this room. But more importantly…” she trailed off, her expression unreadable. “Nothing that happens here is real.Remember that. It makes it easier.”

Aidan gave a single, tight nod and walked out, the taste of her still on his lips, the scent of jasmine in his clothes. As the elevator descended, he leaned his head against the mirrored wall. He thought of her reflection in the window, staring at a version of herself superimposed over the city that owned her.He thought of the contract, the salary, the staggering professionalism of it all.

And he knew, with a soldier’s clarity, that she was lying. It already felt too real. And nothing about this was going to be easy.
