Chapter 3: Rising Action

Evelyn was still caught in some transitory state when she saw the buck. One half of her mind saw a mate while the other recoiled in horror at the thought.

Confusion and panic collided within her as her body continued to move forward, drawn by an irresistible force. The buck stopped at the sight of her, his massive body tensing, his antlers casting long shadows on the forest floor. He let out a low, guttural call, a sound that resonated deep within her, stirring something primal and wild.

Evelyn—or what was left of her—froze, her new body trembling with a mix of fear and anticipation. She could feel the heat radiating from the buck, could see the power coiled within his muscular frame. Her spine spasmed sending her from a bipedal form down onto her feet and hands, well what was left of her hands.

She looked down, the world tilting as she saw four hooves instead of her delicate fingers. The buck approached her, his every movement commanding, dominant. His antlers seemed to grow even larger as he stepped closer, the shadows they cast enveloping her. Mark's voice was closer now, but the woods were thick, and the buck's presence was overpowering. She couldn't respond, couldn't think beyond the confusing mix of fear and fascination coursing through her.

The buck lowered his head, his breath hot on her neck. She could feel the heat of his body, the muscle beneath his fur. Her clothes felt restrictive, her body instinctively kicked the pants off while the buck tore her shirt off with his mouth.

The buck sniffed her, his breath hot and heavy, laden with the potent scent of pine and testosterone. Evelyn—or rather, the creature she was becoming—trembled under his touch. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, her mind a whirl of confusion and panic. Yet, there was a part of her that responded to his presence, a primal, instinctual part that she couldn't quite suppress.

The buck's antlers brushed against her, the velvet covering them soft yet firm. He nudged her gently, a gesture that was almost tender. She could feel the weight of his gaze, the intensity of his stare.

It was as if he knew something she didn't, as if he could see right through her—or rather, through the creature she was becoming. She tried to step back, but her hooves slipped on the damp leaves, and she stumbled, falling against his solid frame.

"Evelyn!" Mark's voice echoed through the forest, closer now, more urgent. The buck was already there, his powerful body pressing against hers, his antlers casting a shadow over her that seemed to block out the rest of the world.

The buck let out a low grunt, a sound that seemed to vibrate through her very bones.
