Chapter 1: Introduction
The grandeur of the Southern Kingdom's Royal Court was a sight to behold. Gilded furniture and intricate tapestries depicting scenes of the kingdom's rich history adorned the expansive hall, while the air was thick with the scent of aged parchment and the faintest hint of jasmine from the vases of flowers scattered throughout the room. The soft glow of candlelight danced on the walls, casting long, flickering shadows that seemed to move with the rhythm of the whispered conversations among the courtiers.
I am Dewi Anjani, the Queen of the Southern Kingdom, sat upon my throne, my green kebaya with gold embellishments shimmering under the candlelight. I am listening intently as my council members discussed the latest documents, their voices a low hum that filled the room.
"Your Majesty," the Head Council Member began, his voice echoing through the chamber. "We've received word from the Northern Kingdom. They're pushing their borders again."
My eyes narrowed, my fingers drumming against the armrest. "And what do they want this time?" I asked, my voice sharp.@Your Majesty"They preparing invasion to the land just north of our border" Head Council Member said, his face etched with worry.I have had enough of this goddamn expansion. We need to put an end to this, once and for all.I stood up, my green kebaya rustling around me.What do you suggest?"
The Head Council Member approached me, his eyes thoughtful. Peace agreement, Your Majesty. Negotiate with Rara Ratri, Queen of the Northern Kingdom. Her hand is strong, but she is reasonable. Perhaps we can find a middle ground.
I scoffed. Reasonable?
Reasonable is the last word I'd use to describe that woman. But I knew the Head Council Member was right. I couldn't afford to let my personal feelings cloud my judgment, not when the fate of my kingdom was at stake.
"Very well, I'll meet with her," I said, my voice firm. "But I won't be a pushover, Head Council Member. We need to make sure our borders are secure."
A sense of unease settled in the pit of my stomach as I prepared for my journey to the Northern Kingdom. The opulence of the palace did little to reassure me.
