Chapter 2: Building Tension
The suite was bathed in the soft, warm glow of the setting sun, casting a golden hue over the velvety walls and marble floors. Alex, his shirt still unbuttoned from their passionate encounter earlier, was sprawled on the plush, ornate chaise, his eyes scanning the room service menu. Morgan, her hair cascading in loose waves around her shoulders, was perched on the edge of the canopy bed, her long, tanned legs crossed at the ankles. The room was filled with a sense of relaxed intimacy, a sanctuary where they could indulge in each other's company without interruption.
Morgan looked up from her magazine, her eyes meeting Alex's across the room. She raised an eyebrow, a playful smirk playing on her lips.
"You know, for someone who's supposed to be working, you're looking a bit too relaxed," she teased.
Alex smirked back, leaning back against the chaise. "Well, darling, I like to think I can multitask. I'm sure some powerful business deals are being made right now while I'm contemplating whether to order the steak or the lobster."
Morgan laughed softly, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "Ah, the age-old dilemma.
Have you come to a decision, or shall I flip a coin for you?" Morgan joked, her eyes crinkling at the corners as she smiled.
Alex chuckled, his eyes scanning the room service menu once more. "Very funny. I think I'll have the steak. What about you?"
Morgan leaned back against the piled pillows, her fingers tracing the edge of her magazine. "I think I'll stick with the salad. I've been indulging a little too much lately, and I could use something light."
Alex raised an eyebrow. "Indulging? Since when have you ever worried about indulging?"
Morgan rolled her eyes playfully.
"You know what I mean, Alex. I've been out of my normal routine with all the gallery shows and openings. I could use something green and healthy to balance things out."
Alex nodded, setting the menu aside and picking up his phone. "Fair enough. I'll let them know our order. How's the magazine?"
Morgan flipped a page, her eyes scanning the glossy images. "It's good. Just catching up on some art world gossip. Speaking of which, did you hear about the scandal at the Louvre?"
Alex chuckled, dialing room service.
"No, I haven't. What happened?"
Morgan leaned forward, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "Apparently, there was a mix-up with one of the exhibits, and a priceless artifact was accidentally displayed in the gift shop for an entire day before anyone noticed."
Alex laughed, shaking his head. "That's ridiculous. I can't even imagine the chaos that must have caused."
As Alex placed their order, Morgan's gaze wandered to the window, where the city lights twinkled like stars against the darkening sky. She sighed contentedly, feeling a sense of peace wash over her. "I love Paris.
There's just something about the city that makes you feel alive, isn't there?" Morgan said, her voice soft as she took in the view.
Alex smiled, his eyes never leaving her face. "You're right. It's like the city has a certain je ne sais quoi that draws you in and doesn't let go." He paused, his expression turning more serious. "You know, I feel like we haven't had enough time together lately. Between work and your gallery shows, we barely have a moment to catch our breath."
Morgan nodded, her eyes reflecting a mix of longing and sadness. "I know.
It's been crazy lately," Morgan admitted, her voice tinged with a hint of melancholy. "But we're here now, and that's what matters. Just you, me, and this beautiful city."
Alex put his phone down and stood up, walking over to the window. He leaned against the glass, his gaze fixed on the sparkling cityscape below. "I've been thinking, Morgan. Maybe we should make a promise to each other."
Morgan raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "A promise? What kind of promise?"
Alex turned to face her, his expression earnest.
"A promise to always make time for each other, no matter how busy things get. To prioritize our relationship above everything else."
Morgan's eyes softened, and she nodded slowly. "I think that's a beautiful idea, Alex. We should never forget what's truly important in life."
She stood up and walked over to him, her fingers gently tracing the lines of his face. "I love you, Alex. More than anything in this world."
Alex captured her hand in his, his thumb lightly brushing over her knuckles. "I love you too, Morgan.
With every fiber of my being," Alex replied, his voice thick with emotion. He pulled her close, their bodies pressing against each other as he lowered his lips to hers. The kiss was slow and deep, a promise of devotion and passion intertwined.
Just as their kiss deepened, a soft knock on the door interrupted them. Alex pulled back, his eyes flashing with irritation. "Who the fuck is it now?" he muttered under his breath.
Morgan giggled softly, her cheeks still flushed from their kiss. "Patience, darling. It's probably just room service."
Alex walked over to the door, his brows furrowed.
"Yes?" he said, his voice stern.
"Room service, sir," a muffled voice responded from the other side.
Alex opened the door, revealing a waiter dressed in a crisp white uniform, a silver cart laden with covered dishes at his side. The waiter's face was obscured by a white cloth draped over his head, presumably to keep the food warm.
"Come in," Alex said, stepping aside to let the waiter enter.
The waiter wheeled the cart into the room, his movements swift and efficient.
He began to arrange the dishes on the dining table, his back to Alex and Morgan.
"Would you like the champagne now, or would you prefer to wait until dessert?" the waiter asked, his voice muffled slightly by the cloth.
Alex exchanged a glance with Morgan, a playful smile playing on her lips. "Champagne now, please. It's been a long day," she said, her voice laced with a hint of mischief.
The waiter nodded and began to uncork the bottle, the sound of the cork popping filling the room.
As he poured the champagne into two elegant flutes, Alex and Morgan watched, their eyes reflecting the amber glow of the bubbly liquid.
"You know, I've always loved the sound of a champagne bottle being opened," Morgan said, her eyes sparkling with delight. "It's like the beginning of a celebration, isn't it?"
Alex raised his glass to clink against Morgan's. "To us, darling. To our own private celebration." He took a sip, his eyes never leaving Morgan's. "And to many more to come."
Morgan smiled, her lips brushing against the rim of her glass.
"To us, Alex. Here's to finding time for each other, no matter what life throws at us."
As they clinked glasses, the waiter set the bottle down with a soft thud and turned to face them, his hands clasped in front of him. "Your dinner is ready to be served, sir and madam. Would you like me to remove the covers now?"
Alex nodded, his gaze still locked onto Morgan's. "Please do."
The waiter began to lift the silver domes off the dishes, revealing a mouthwatering array of grilled steak, lobster tail, and a variety of side dishes.
The aroma that filled the room was tantalizing, making both Alex and Morgan's stomachs rumble with anticipation.
As the waiter finished unveiling their dinner, he stepped back, allowing them to admire the presentation. "Enjoy your meal, sir and madam," he said, his voice monotonous and devoid of emotion.
Alex and Morgan exchanged a glance, a playful spark in their eyes. They had planned to make this meal last, to savor every bite and every moment together. But the sight of the delicious food before them had other ideas.
Morgan leaned in, her voice a low purr.
"I think we should make a toast before we dig in."
Alex raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on his lips. To what, then?"
Morgan's eyes twinkled with mischief as she picked up her champagne flute. "To indulging in every sense, of course."
Alex clinked his glass against hers, his eyes never leaving hers. "To indulging, then. And may our feast be as delicious as it looks."
They took a sip of their champagne, the crisp bubbles dancing on their tongues.
Alex picked up his knife and fork, and Morgan did the same, their anticipation growing with each passing moment.
"This looks amazing," Morgan said, her eyes scanning the beautifully presented dishes. "I'm surprised they managed to get it all right—considering how late we ordered."
Alex nodded in agreement. "It does look stunning. I'm curious, though—what made you choose a salad today? You know how much I love seeing you enjoy a good meal."
Morgan smiled, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "Well, darling, I thought it would be fun to have a little competition."
