Chapter 7: Aftercare and Claiming

The echoes of the stomping and cheering from below faded, leaving only the dry rustle of hay and the sound of their own breathing in the vast, shadowed space. The hat on Amy’s head felt like a crown, its weight a solid anchor. The heat from her skin seemed to pulse in time with her heartbeat.

A hand, cool and smooth, touched the small of her back. Emily’s.

“Let’s get these off you,” Emily murmured, her voice closer than Amy expected. She helped Amy to her feet, her movements practical, and gently tugged the denim and cotton the rest of the way down her legs. Amy stepped out of them, the hay prickling the soles of her feet. The cool air washed over her completely, a shocking contrast to the deep, throbbing warmth they had painted across her.

She stood there, in just her t-shirt and the Stetson, exposed. It should have felt terrifying. Instead, it felt like a fact.

Jil watched from her perch on a hay bale, her eyes dark in the gloom. She took a long pull from a canteen, then offered it to Amy. “Water?”

Amy took it, her hands unsteady. The water was lukewarm and tasted of metal. It was the best thing she’d ever drunk.

“That was something else,” Jil said, taking the canteen back. Her gaze was a physical touch, traveling over Amy’s body, lingering on the visual echo of the paddle and the handprints. “You took it like you were born for it.”

“I don’t know about that,” Amy said, but the words were automatic. Her whole body was singing a different tune.

Emily wasn’t just looking. She was circling, a slow, assessing orbit. Her fingers trailed lightly over the crest of Amy’s hip, then skated across the hottest part of her skin. The touch wasn’t a strike. It was an investigation.A claiming.

“She’s right,” Emily said, almost to herself. “The way you held yourself. The way you thanked us. You weren’t just enduring it.” Her hand settled, palm flat, against the ache. The pressure was perfect—firm enough to acknowledge the pain, gentle enough to soothe it. “You were in it.”

A shiver that had nothing to do with cold racked Amy’s frame. She leaned back, just slightly, into Emily’s touch.Jil saw it. A slow smile spread across her face. She stood up and closed the distance between them, the hay whispering under her boots. She stopped in front of Amy, so close Amy could see the faint dusting of freckles across her nose, smell the honest sweat on her skin.

“City girls usually break,” Jil said softly. Her thumb brushed Amy’s lower lip. “Or they fake it. You didn’t do either.”

Then Jil kissed her. It wasn’t soft. It was all confidence and hunger, a taste of dust and water and want. Amy’s mind short-circuited. The last kiss she’d had was in a sanitized club bathroom with a boy who tasted like spearmint gum. This was different. This was the hayloft, the pain, the hat, the knowing eyes of Emily watching. She kissed back, a surge of boldness rising from the same deep place that had counted out the blows.

When Jil pulled away, Amy was breathless.

“My turn,” Emily said from behind her. Her hands came up to Amy’s shoulders, turning her gently. Emily’s kiss was different.Slower. More deliberate. It was a question and an answer at the same time. Her tongue traced the seam of Amy’s lips, and Amy opened for her, a low sound escaping her throat.

They guided her down onto the loose hay. It was scratchy and sweet-smelling, a thousand tiny points of sensation against her bare skin. Jil’s mouth was on her neck, her teeth grazing the tendon there. Emily’s hands were everywhere, learning the topography of her—the dip of her waist, the swell of her breasts through her shirt, the fierce, heated landscape of her backside.

“This okay?” Emily breathed into her ear, her hand sliding up under Amy’s shirt.

All Amy could do was nod, arching into the touch. It was more than okay. It was inevitable.

Jil peeled Amy’s shirt off, tossing it into the shadows. The air was cool on her skin, followed immediately by the heat of their mouths. Jil took one nipple into her mouth, her tongue rough and perfect, while Emily cupped the other, her thumb circling in a rhythm that made Amy gasp.

The pain was still there, a resonant bass note underneath the sharper melodies they were playing on her body. When Emily’s hand slid down and pressed firmly over the punished flesh, Amy cried out, but it was a sound of pure fractured pleasure. The sting blurred, transformed, became just another kind of intensity.

“See?” Jil murmured, lifting her head. Her lips were slick. “It all feeds the same fire.”

Amy believed her.She was burning. She reached for Jil, fumbling with the button of her jeans, fueled by a clumsy, urgent need to reciprocate, to give back some of this feeling.

Jil chuckled, a low, warm sound.“Easy, cowboy. We’re not done with you yet.”

She let Amy unfasten her jeans, though, and shimmied out of them, kicking them aside. She was bare underneath. So was Emily, who had shed her own clothes with silent efficiency. They were a landscape of tan lines and lean muscle, utterly unselfconscious in the dusty half-light.

For a moment, Amy just looked, feeling young and pale and new. Then Emily lay beside her, pulling her into a kiss, and Jil moved over her, her thigh pressing between Amy’s legs. The direct, slow friction against her most sensitive part made her hips jerk involuntarily.

“There she is,” Jil whispered, her breath hot on Amy’s shoulder. She began to move, a steady, rocking pressure. Emily’s mouth was on Amy’s, swallowing her moans.

It built, this feeling, weaving together the lingering throb of the punishment, the scratch of the hay, the sweat-slick slide of skin on skin, the scent of them all mixed together. Amy clutched at Jil’s back, her fingers finding old, faint ridges she realized, dimly, were scars from a whip or a branch. She held onto Emily’s braid, the woven hair coarse and strong.

She came apart between them, a silent, seismic breaking. Her back arched, driving the hot, tender skin of her ass into the harsh bed of hay, the pain flaring bright and clean right at the peak, twisting the pleasure into something so sharp and total it felt like truth.

She sank back, spent, trembling. Jil slowed, then stilled, resting her forehead against Amy’s. Emily stroked the hair from Amy’s damp temple.

For a long time, the only sounds were their slowing breaths and the distant, comforting shuffle of horses below.

Jil shifted off her, flopping onto her back in the hay. “Holy shit,” she laughed, a joyful, exhausted sound.

Emily propped herself up on an elbow, looking down at Amy. Her expression was soft, stripped of its usual instructor’s edge. “Welcome to the club,” she said, and this time it meant something entirely different.

Amy pulled the hat from where it had fallen beside her and placed it back on her head.It felt right. The deep, pleasant ache in her muscles, the tender fire on her skin, the new, loose feeling in her bones—it all felt right. She wasn’t just visiting anymore. She was staying.

The last of the twilight bled from the sky, leaving them in the forgiving dark.
