Chapter 4: Claiming the Prize
The rough leather pressed into Grey's cheek, the scent of old cigars and spilled whiskey sharp in his nostrils. Rufus’s immense weight pinned him flat, his massive, furred belly pressing Grey’s own soft middle deep into the yielding couch cushion. He couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think beyond the crushing pressure and the terrifying promise in Rufus’s growl. Time to see if that tight little ass matches that shy personality, kitten.
Then, with a grunt of effort that vibrated through Grey’s spine, Rufus flipped him. One moment he was crushed face-down, the next he was on his hands and knees on the worn velvet, the sudden shift leaving him dizzy. Cold air washed over his completely exposed backside. Instinctively, shamefully, his tail lifted, curling high over his back in a posture of utter vulnerability and surrender he couldn’t control. A choked whimper escaped him.
"Nice reflex," Rufus chuckled, the sound dark and warm against Grey’s ear. A massive paw landed possessively on the small of Grey’s back, holding him firmly in place. The other traced the base of Grey’s lifted tail with a single, thick claw. Grey flinched violently, every muscle tensing. "Relax, fluff. Just appreciating the view. And the… hospitality." The claw pressed, not quite breaking the skin, but promising the potential. Grey squeezed his eyes shut, trembling so hard his teeth chattered. The chill of the air on his most private areas was sharp, a counterpoint to the searing heat of humiliation flooding his face and ears. He could feel the eyes of the hawk and the panther, their presence a silent, judging audience he couldn’t see.
Rufus leaned closer, his bulk blocking the dim lounge light. "Don’t think this ends here, fluff." The words were a low rumble against Grey’s fur. "You just earned yourself a collar." The casual pronouncement landed like a physical blow. A collar? Panic flared, hotter and more desperate than the shame. He wasn't just being humiliated; he was being claimed.
Before Grey could process the horror, before he could even form a coherent plea, Rufus’s grip on his back shifted. Massive paws closed around Grey’s waist, lifting him off the couch as easily as a doll. Grey gasped, legs flailing uselessly in the air, utterly exposed, held aloft like a trophy. Rufus tucked him unceremoniously under one brawny arm, Grey’s bare rump and tail dangling, his face pressed against the coarse, yellow-tinged fur of the polar bear’s flank. The scent of musk and dominance was overwhelming.
"Night, gents," Rufus called out casually to the others in the lounge, already striding towards the heavy VIP door. "Place the kitty’s clothes on my tab." The hawk gave a noncommittal grunt.
The door swung open, revealing the abrupt sensory assault of the alley. The thumping bass from the club bled out, warring with the screech of distant sirens and the rumble of a garbage truck. The air, thick with the greasy tang of fried food and the acrid bite of stale urine, hit Grey’s muzzle. Neon signs cast garish, pulsating reflections on slick asphalt and grimy brick walls. Rufus didn't pause, carrying the naked cougar out into the gritty night like a sack of laundry.
Rufus set him down with a jarring thud on the uneven, cold pavement. Grey stumbled, bare paws slipping slightly on something unidentifiable and sticky. He instinctively curled in on himself, arms wrapped tightly over his belly, tail tucked low trying to shield his exposed sheath, shivering violently in the night air. Tears blurred the distorted neon spectacle of the city around them. He was naked. Outside. In an alley.
Rufus loomed, a monolith of fur and muscle under the flickering sign for 'Lucky Star Noodles'. He dug into the pocket of his expensive slacks, his movements unhurried, eyes fixed on Grey with unnerving amusement. "Cold, kitten?" he asked, his voice almost gentle, mocking. "Don't worry. Won't be naked for long. Just need to mark the merchandise properly."
He pulled out a simple, thick leather collar. It looked sturdy, almost brutal in its plainness. Gleaming dark brown leather, a heavy metal ring at the front, and a substantial rectangular tag. Rufus held it up, the metal catching the neon glow. "See? Classy. Sturdy. Says who you belong to." He took a step closer, the collar dangling from his thick fingers like a threat.
Grey backed up, his bare shoulders scraping against the cold, gritty brick wall behind him. "N-no," he stammered, the word barely audible over the thumping bass. "Please… Rufus… I-I’ll pay you back. Anything! Just… not that." His voice cracked. The thought of that collar encircling his neck, a visible symbol of his defeat and subjugation, was a suffocating terror worse than being naked.
Rufus stopped, towering over him. He tilted his head, red eyes gleaming. "Pay me back?" He chuckled, low and dangerous. "Fluff, you lost your shirt, your pants, your dignity, and frankly, anything else worth betting. What exactly do you think you have left that I want?" His gaze deliberately raked down Grey’s shivering body, lingering pointedly on the patch of pale fur Grey was desperately trying to cover. "Besides… this?" He gestured vaguely with the collar.
Grey felt his face burn. His small sheath seemed to shrink further under the weight of that gaze. He had nothing. He was nothing. Just something Rufus had won. The cold seeped deeper into his bones, a despair colder than the alley pavement.
Rufus took another step, closing the distance. The sheer size of him, the heat radiating off him, pressed against Grey like a wall. "Tell you what," Rufus murmured, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper that somehow cut through the alley noise. He held the collar out, letting it swing slightly. "Walk away. Right now. Naked as the day you were born. Trot your cute little tail down this alley, into the street, past the bouncers… see how far you get before the cops scoop you up or someone decides they like the view better than I do." He grinned, showing sharp teeth. "Or…" He jiggled the collar. "Put this on. Belong to me. Means I take care of you. Clothes, food, place to stay. All the things a shy little fluffball needs. Your choice."
The choice was no choice. The image of stumbling naked into the chaotic main street, under the harsh glare of streetlights and the hungry eyes of strangers… it was unthinkable. Terrifying. Worse than the collar? Maybe. Probably. His trembling intensified. He looked from Rufus’s implacable expression to the leather strap in his hand, then back to the harsh, uncaring alley mouth.
A choked sob escaped him. He lowered his gaze, staring at the grimy pavement between his bare paws. Defeated. Utterly. Slowly, his arms still wrapped tightly around himself, he gave the faintest, barely perceptible nod.
"Good kitty," Rufus rumbled, satisfaction thick in his voice.
He didn't ask again. He stepped forward, the bulk of him pressing Grey even flatter against the cold brick. Grey flinched as the cool leather brushed the fur of his neck. Rufus’s big paws were surprisingly deft. The buckle clicked, a small, final sound that echoed disproportionately in Grey’s skull. Rufus adjusted it, snug but not choking, the heavy metal ring resting against Grey’s collarbone, the tag cold against his sternum. He gave a little tug, making the collar pull tight for a second. "Perfect fit."
He stepped back, surveying his work, a possessive gleam in his red eyes. The leather felt foreign, heavy, a constant pressure against Grey’s throat. A brand. A shackle. The neon lights danced across Rufus’s yellow-tinged fur and gleamed dully on the dark leather now encircling Grey’s neck. The alley seemed to close in, the sounds of the city fading to a dull roar beneath the pounding of his own heart and the oppressive weight of the collar.
Rufus grinned, a flash of white in the gloom. "Now," he said, clapping a massive paw on Grey’s bare shoulder, making him jump. "Let’s get you home, pet. Got a nice spot picked out for you." He started walking towards the alley's mouth, towards the brighter lights and the throngs of people in the street beyond, clearly expecting Grey to follow.
Grey stood frozen for a second, the cold brick against his back, the new weight around his neck dragging him down. He lifted a trembling paw, his claws brushing the stiff leather. His fingers traced the metal tag. He turned it towards the flickering light. Etched deep into the metal, clear and undeniable, was a single word: RUFUS. Below it, smaller, almost an afterthought, was his own name: GREY.
Owned. Named. Collared.
A fresh wave of hot shame washed over him, chased by a chill deeper than the night air. With nowhere else to go, his tail hanging limply behind him, he pushed off the wall and stumbled after the massive shape of his owner, the leather collar pressing into his fur with every step into the blinding, indifferent city.
