A continuation of the story ‘Southern Charm and North Desires. This story picks up after Beau and Seraphina move to Los Angeles. They rent a condo together to save on rent and because it just felt like the most logical thing to do. Settling into domestic life came easy for them despite the dominate personalities. They loved each throughly and their sex life was both a Testament and compliment to it. They both took pleasure in pushing each other past their limits and laying in bed completely empty and over sensitive. The love and dynamic between them was palpable. No one could see that more than Victoria Sterling. Seraphina’s new department head. She was everything Mr. Abernathy said she was and worse. She hated seraphina upon meeting her but kept it professional. Victoria was worried seraphina was there to replace her but when she saw Beau she had a new objective.

Chapter 8: Marked Territory

Seraphina walked into the office on Monday morning, her body aching in a pleasurable protest with every step. Each subtle movement was a reminder – the delicious stiffness in her thighs, the tender bite of bruised flesh beneath her blouse, the faint, echoing soreness deep inside. As she lowered herself into her chair, the pressure of the leather seat sent a shiver through her. She closed her eyes for a second, fingertips resting on the cool glass of her desk.

The memory of the night before, of the rug, and then later, the shower, and finally this morning, against the kitchen island, unspooled in her mind in vivid, explicit fragments. Beau’s mouth, his hands, the commanding whisper in her ear, ‘Again.’ Her own nails scoring his back, her teeth claiming the corded muscle of his shoulder, her voice breaking around his name. A warm, damp heat gathered low in her belly as she pictured him right now, in his own office three floors up, sitting through a budget review covered in the faint, purpling marks she’d given him. His matching set. A secret language written on their skin, hidden under crisp cotton and fine wool.

The sudden, cloying wave of gardenias and vanilla sliced through her reverie. Seraphina’s eyes snapped open. She turned her head slowly.

Victoria stood beside the desk, a paper bag in one hand. She was smiling, the expression not reaching her cold, assessing eyes. They dropped, for a fraction of a second, to the edge of Seraphina’s collar, where the high neckline failed to fully conceal a dark, blossoming mark.

“Sorry to disturb you,” Victoria purred, placing the bag on the desk with deliberate softness. “Just wanted to give you this.” Her index finger trailed slowly across the polished surface as she withdrew her hand. “And to personally invite you and your… husband… to the company gala this weekend. It’s at the Orchid House. Black tie.” She tilted her head, a blonde strand falling perfectly against her cheek. “I’m sorry—boyfriend… is it?”

The needy tone was back, layered with that fake, wide-eyed innocence. The question hung in the air, a brittle little hook.

Seraphina didn’t blink. She didn’t touch the muffin bag. She didn’t adjust her collar. She held Victoria’s gaze, her own expression smoothing into one of polite, professional neutrality. “We will be there,” she said, her voice cool and final. It was neither an acknowledgment nor a correction. It was a dismissal.

A flicker of something hot and frustrated passed behind Victoria’s eyes before she smoothed it over. “Lovely. I’ll ensure your tickets are at the door.” She lingered for a heartbeat too long, her eyes doing another quick, inventory-like sweep of Seraphina—the carefully styled hair, the slight weariness around her eyes that spoke of a night spent in ways Victoria could only imagine, the defiant set of her shoulders. “Someone had a fun weekend,” she murmured, the words barely audible, a venomous compliment.

Then she was gone, leaving a toxic cloud of perfume and unspoken threat hanging in the air.

Seraphina waited until the click of heels on laminate faded. Only then did she let her shoulders drop a fraction. She pushed the muffin bag to the far edge of the desk with the tip of her pen. It toppled into the trash bin with a soft thud.

Her fingers, of their own volition, rose to trace the hidden marks on her wrist, beneath her sleeve. The parallel crescents of her own nails, driven into Beau’s skin, had a matching set on her hips. The symmetrical bruise from his grip on her thigh echoed the one she knew was darkening on his bicep. A perfect, painful equilibrium.

Victoria’s interruption had done the opposite of what she intended. Instead of needling her, it had cemented Seraphina’s focus. The gala. A public stage. Victoria’s chosen battlefield. She would be there, playing hostess, the powerful department head, trying to orbit their relationship like a jealous moon.

A slow, dangerous smile touched Seraphina’s lips. She opened her laptop, the screen flaring to life. She had work to do, numbers to conquer, a world to master. And then, on Saturday night, she would have an empire to wear on her arm. Beau in a tuxedo, those marks hidden beneath crisp white linen and bespoke wool. Herself in something dark and deliberately breathtaking. They would walk into that room, a united front, and Victoria would get to watch. She would get to see exactly what she could never touch, never soil, never break.

The warm, damp heat between Seraphina’s thighs returned, but it was laced now with a different kind of fire. Anticipation. It was going to be a very interesting weekend.
