Chapter 1: The Collar and the First Tremble of Submission

The air in the chamber was thick with the smell of polished leather and old roses. I knelt on the cold marble floor, the chill seeping through the thin fabric of my shift, making the fine white fur on my thighs prickle. My tail, a useless, bushy thing, was coiled tight around my ankle, a pathetic attempt to hide. I couldn’t stop trembling.

He was just standing there, at a table of dark wood, his back to me. The silence was a weight. I watched the shift of muscle under his tailored shirt, the way his dark hair just brushed his collar. Master Thorne. My owner. The words were a stone in my throat.

“Look at the mirrors, Luna.”

His voice wasn’t loud. It was calm, cool, and it cut through the quiet like a blade. My eyes, against my will, flicked up. The room was a cage of reflections. I saw a dozen versions of myself: a small, pale creature with wide, frightened eyes, snow-white ears flat against my head. A dozen versions of him, turning now, holding something that glinted in the low gaslight.

A collar.

It was slender, a band of silver so bright it hurt to look at. Not the rough iron thing I’d seen on others in the market. This was delicate, almost beautiful. That somehow made it worse.

He moved toward me, and my breath hitched. I could smell him now—sandaled wood, clean linen, a hint of something sharp like winter air. He stopped, his polished boots just within my downcast vision.

“Your chin. Up.”

I forced my head back. The line of my throat felt terribly exposed. His fingers, when they touched me, were not cruel. They were precise. They brushed my fur aside, finding the hollow beneath my jaw, tracing the frantic beat there. His skin was warm. The contrast between that warmth and his cold expression made my stomach twist.

The metal was shockingly cool as he brought the collar around. It settled against my skin with a quiet, final click. A lock. Not a buckle. A lock.

His fingers lingered, not caressing, just… assessing. Testing the fit. They pressed gently into the softness, and a small, traitorous sound escaped me—a whimper, stuck between fear and something else I didn’t want to name. My body was betraying me, reacting to the mere proximity of a man, of him, with a dizzying cocktail of terror and a strange, unwanted heat.

“Good,” he murmured, more to himself than to me. He fastened a fine silver chain to a ring on the front of the collar. The other end he wrapped loosely around his left hand. Not a pull. A reminder.

He took a step back, his gaze traveling over me with an appraising detachment that made me feel like a sculpture, or a weapon being inspected. I remained on my knees, the chain a faint, cold weight against my collarbone.

“Stand.”

My legs were weak, but I managed. The shift was embarrassingly short. I felt the air on my bare thighs, saw the faint outline of my own body in the mirrors—the narrow hips, the small, almost boyish chest, the gentle, awkward new curve of my waist. I wasn’t like the paintings of women I’d seen. I was unfinished.

“You are a unique asset, Luna,” he said, his tone conversational, as if discussing a piece of art. “Your innocence is not a deficit. It is the core of your value. But it is untrained. Unfocused.” He gave the chain a slight, almost imperceptible tug. It wasn’t a jerk, just a nudge of pressure. My eyes flew to his.

“I don’t… understand my purpose, Master,” I whispered, the words ash in my mouth.

“Your purpose is to learn,” he said. He began to walk a slow circle around me. I tracked him in the mirrors, a dark planet orbiting a pale, trembling moon. “To learn obedience. To learn service. To learn the contours of your own capacity.” He stopped behind me. I could feel his heat on my back. My tail twitched nervously. “The world you knew is gone. This collar isn’t a punishment. It is a truth. It tells you who you are. It tells everyone who sees you.”

His hand came to rest, not on me, but on the back of the chaise longue. It was upholstered in deep crimson velvet. Next to it, on a stand, lay an array of tools: straps, paddles of smooth, dark wood.

“Your first lesson is simplicity itself,” he said, moving back into my line of sight. His eyes, that piercing grey, held mine. “You will stay. You will not speak unless given permission. You will not move unless given a command. You will watch. You will learn what pleases me.”

He settled onto the chaise, leaning back with a quiet sigh, the picture of relaxed dominion. He still held the end of my chain. He draped it over his knee.

“Now,” he said, his voice dropping into a register that vibrated in the base of my spine. “Take off the shift.”

The command hung in the perfumed air. My mind went blank, then white with panic. My fingers, clumsy and cold, went to the simple tie at my shoulder. I fumbled. The silk whispered as it slid down my body, a cascade of shame. It pooled at my feet, leaving me standing in the center of the room, naked but for the silver at my throat. The air felt different on my fur, a thousand tiny sensitivities screaming. I crossed my arms over my chest, my tail desperately trying to cover my front.

“Arms at your sides.”

A tear escaped, tracing a hot path down my cheek. I let my arms fall. I was completely displayed, for him, for the mirrors. I saw everything—the sharp angle of my hipbones, the faint puff of my nipples, the vulnerable softness between my legs. I was a map of a territory I didn’t understand.

He didn’t touch me. He just looked. His gaze was a physical touch, slower and more thorough than any hand. It lingered on the dip of my waist, the inside of my thighs. I felt myself flushing, a warm, mortifying bloom spreading from my chest up my neck.

“You see yourself as plain,” he stated, his head tilting. “You are wrong. Your reluctance is a texture. Your fear is a flavor. Your inexperience is a blank canvas.” He leaned forward slightly, the chain shifting. “It is not about what you are, Luna. It is about what you will become under my direction. That process begins with your absolute acceptance of this moment. Of your exposure.”

He let the silence stretch, let me drown in it. My breathing was the loudest sound in the room. I was painfully aware of everything—the grit of the marble under my feet, the slow sweep of his eyes, the heavy, symbolic weight of the silver on my throat.

“Kneel again.”

I sank down, the position feeling even more vulnerable now. He stood, leaving the chain on the chaise. He walked to the table and picked up a small, polished jar. Unscrewing the lid, he dipped two fingers inside. They came out gleaming with a clear, slick oil. The scent of almonds filled the space between us.

He came and knelt before me. Not touching me yet. “Your first service is to present yourself. To hold still. To understand that your body’s reactions are not your own to hide. They are mine to observe. To shape.”

He reached out. His oil-slick thumb brushed over my lower lip. I flinched. “Open,” he commanded, his voice quiet.

I parted my lips. He traced the fullness of my bottom lip, the slickness leaving a cool film that quickly warmed. The intimacy of it was a shock. This wasn’t violence. It was possession, slow and deliberate.

“Now,” he said, his other hand coming to rest on my knee. “You will watch in the mirror. You will learn what your submission looks like.”

His oily fingers trailed down, over the frantic pulse in my throat, over the collar, down the center of my chest. I stopped breathing. My whole world narrowed to the path of that touch, a shocking line of sensation through my fur. He circled one breast, teasing the tight, pink bud there until it ached, then moved inexorably downward, over my quivering stomach.

I was whining, a high, soft sound in the back of my throat. My eyes, glued to the mirror as ordered, saw it all: the pathetic, eager arch of my body, the way my tail had gone limp, the devastating blush everywhere. His hand slid between my thighs.

I jerked, a sob breaking free.

“Hold. Still.” The command was a firm press, not a shout.

I froze, trembling violently. His fingers parted me, found a place of shocking, hidden sensitivity. He didn’t penetrate. Just rubbed that slick, terrible oil in slow, maddening circles over a knot of nerves I didn’t know I had. A bolt of pure, electric sensation shot through me—not pleasure, not pain, but something terrifyingly primal. My hips gave a tiny, involuntary jerk against his hand.

A faint, almost invisible smile touched his lips. “There,” he whispered, his eyes locked on mine in the glass. “That is the beginning. That is the raw material.”

He removed his hand. I was panting, wet with more than oil, humiliated and buzzing with a confused, awful energy. He wiped his fingers on a clean cloth, his movements efficient.

He rose, looking down at me where I knelt, exposed and trembling, a new, unignorable heat throbbing between my legs. He picked up the chain again.

“Lesson one is complete,” he said, his demeanor shifting back to that detached calm. “You have learned what it is to be seen. Truly seen. Remember this feeling. This is the foundation.”

He gave the chain a gentle pull, leading my gaze upward to his. In his cold, grey eyes, I saw no warmth, no pity. But I saw a flicker of something—interest, anticipation. A hunger for the next lesson, for the thing I would become.

“Come,” he said, turning toward the chamber’s inner door. “It’s time for you to see your new room.”

I stumbled to my feet, my body feeling foreign and used. The silver collar felt like the only real part of me now. The chain tightened, a gentle, inexorable prompt. I took a shaky step forward, following.

I took a shaky step forward, following. The chain led me through a door I hadn’t noticed, hidden in the paneling. We moved from the opulent, oppressive chamber into a stone corridor. It was cooler here. The air smelled of clean linen and faintly of lemon polish. My bare feet slapped softly on the smooth, cold stone. Every nerve in my body was still screaming from his touch, a ghost of that slick, circling pressure between my legs. I felt swollen there. Aware in a way I’d never been. The shame of that awareness was a hot coal in my gut.

He didn’t look back. He just led, the chain a consistent, light tension. A guide. A tether.

We stopped at a heavy oak door. He produced a key, turned it in the lock. The click echoed. He pushed the door open and stood aside, reeling the chain in slightly so I stood in the doorway, forced to look in.

It wasn’t a cell.

That was my first, stupid thought. It was a room. A beautiful one. A large window, currently shuttered, dominated one wall. A bed with a thick mattress and a cream-colored duvet sat against another. There was a small writing desk, a bookshelf, even a plush armchair by a cold fireplace. Soft rugs covered the stone floor. It was serene. It was a thousand times more terrifying than a dungeon.

“This is yours,” Thorne said. His voice was close to my ear. I could feel his breath stir the fur at the tip of my ear. I shivered. “You will keep it immaculate. It is a reflection of my standards, which are now yours.”

He gave me a gentle push between my shoulder blades. I stumbled inside. The door closed behind us with a solid, final sound. The chain went slack as he walked over to the desk, coiling the end neatly beside a brass lamp.

“Look at me, Luna.”

I turned. He was leaning against the desk, arms crossed, studying me again in the softer light of this room. The earlier intensity had banked, replaced by that analytical calm. It was somehow worse. The unpredictable heat was gone, leaving only the certainty of his control.

“Your body responded,” he stated. No judgment. Just fact. “That is good. It is honest. Your mind, however, is fighting. That is expected. The fight is where the work happens.”

I swallowed, the collar pressing into the motion. “I don’t… I don’t know what you want me to do.”

“I want you to learn to want what I want,” he said, as if it were the simplest equation in the world. “We start with basic obedience. It is not about breaking you. It is about… aligning you.”

He pushed off from the desk and walked toward me. I held my ground, but every muscle was taut, ready to flinch. He didn’t touch me. He stopped a foot away.

“Kneel.”

I sank down. The rug was soft under my knees. He circled me once, a slow, appraising orbit. “Posture. Back straight. Shoulders back. Hands on your thighs, palms up. It is a posture of openness. Of readiness.”

I adjusted myself, the position feeling absurdly formal. My palms, turned upward, felt like they were begging.

“Good.” He came to stand in front of me. “You will kneel like this each morning when I enter, and each evening before I leave. You will hold it until given another command. This is your foundation.”

He reached down. His fingers tilted my chin up until I was looking into his grey eyes. They were like stones at the bottom of a deep, still lake. “Your eyes are very expressive. They are full of storms. In time, you will learn to calm those storms for me. To hold my gaze without a hurricane behind yours.”

He let go of my chin, his hand drifting down, over my throat, over the collar. He traced it, a full circle, his knuckles brushing my skin. I couldn’t suppress the tremor that ran through me.

“This stays on. Always. You will never try to remove it. It is part of you now. More than your fur. More than your tail. Do you understand?”

I nodded, a tiny, jerky motion.

“Use your words.”

“Yes, Master.” The title felt foreign and heavy on my tongue.

“Good.” He stepped back. “Stand. Walk to the bed and sit on the edge.”

I did as I was told. The mattress was impossibly soft. He followed, standing over me. The dynamic shifted again. He was larger from this angle, more imposing.

“You are mine, Luna. That is the only reality that matters. Your old life, your fears, your childish hopes… they are echoes. Faint ones. This,” he said, his hand coming to rest lightly on top of my head, his fingers smoothing the fur between my ears, “this is what is real. This room. This collar. My hand on you.”

His touch was gentle. Almost affectionate. It was the most confusing thing he’d done yet. A fresh, hot tear spilled over. I hated it. I hated the part of me that wanted to lean into that touch, that was starved for any kind of contact that wasn’t pain or terror.

“The training will progress at my pace,” he continued, his fingers threading through my hair, scratching lightly at the base of my skull. A stupid, purring reflex stirred in my chest. I choked it back. “There will be lessons in deportment. In speech. In service. And there will be lessons in pleasure. Your own, and mine. They are not separate things.”

His hand left my head. He walked to the door, picking up the coiled chain. He didn’t reattach it. He simply held it.

“For now, you will rest. You will think on what you learned today. The feeling of the collar. The feeling of being seen. The feeling of your body’s first… lesson.”

He opened the door.

“Master?” The word leapt out before I could stop it.

He paused, looking back. One eyebrow lifted, a silent question.

“What… what do I do now? Just… sit here?”

A flicker of something passed over his face. Not a smile. An acknowledgement. “Yes. You sit. You think. You exist within the boundaries I have given you. The window is locked. The door will be locked from the outside. You have water in the pitcher there. A chamber pot in the corner. You will be fed shortly.”

He stepped out into the corridor.

“Tomorrow,” he said, his voice cool and clear through the doorway, “we begin again.”

The door closed. The lock turned.

The silence rushed in, a roaring, empty thing. I sat on the edge of the lavish bed, in the beautiful room, the silver cold around my throat. I brought my fingers up, tracing the smooth, unyielding metal. A symbol. A truth.

I looked at my palms, then slowly turned them face down on the duvet. I curled my fingers into the fabric, gripping it tight. The ghost of his touch was everywhere—on my lips, on my breast, between my legs. A slow, deep ache throbbed in my core, an echo of that maddening circle.

I was alone. I was owned.

And the most terrifying part, the part that coiled hot and shameful deep inside, was the tiny, treacherous spark of curiosity that wondered what lesson tomorrow would bring.
