How roleplay works here

Everyone in the room

Group chats

Talk to the whole room

One character or a cast of them. Everyone holds their own voice, their own history with you and their own reason to be in the scene — and you can speak as yourself or as a persona you invent.

Portraits

See who you're talking to

Give every character a face — portraits in the style you pick, anime by default — and let pictures arrive inside the conversation when the scene asks for one.

Chat and story, one cast

Keep them past the scene

Your cast belongs to you, not to one chat. Take the character you have been talking to into a story, or bring a story's cast to the table instead.

Openers

Rooms to walk into

Take one as it stands or bend it to your taste. One line is all the scene needs.

The long version

How a chat is put together, what stays private, and where to start.

Five steps

How roleplay AI chat works

  1. Choose the cast. Add one or more AI characters with names, descriptions and backgrounds.
  2. Set the scenario. Explain where the conversation begins and what is happening.
  3. Add a persona if useful. Define who you are in the scene, or simply speak as yourself.
  4. Start chatting. Send a response and receive the character's streamed reply.
  5. Come back to it later. Return to the session at any time and continue from where the conversation stopped.

Create an AI character chat around the people and situation you want to explore. DreamPress roleplay sessions can include one character or a group, an optional scenario and an optional persona for you. Start from characters you have created, set the immediate context and then respond in a streamed conversation. Each chat keeps its own memory and retains older messages for you to scroll back through. Every session stays private to your account, so nothing you write is shared. This makes the format useful for testing dialogue, exploring a relationship or continuing to spend time with a fictional cast.

What makes DreamPress different

  • Group scenes are supported. Put one or more AI characters in the same conversational session.
  • Characters belong to a wider creative library. Saved characters can be used across chats and stories.
  • Every session has its own context. The cast, scenario, persona and chat memory stay with that conversation.
  • Images can appear in messages. AI-generated images are available as part of chat messages.
  • Sessions stay private. A chat, its cast and its transcript remain in your own account.

Character chat ideas

Give the scene an immediate reason to speak. A detective can question three witnesses who disagree about the same minute. A travelling party can decide whether to trust a stranger before the weather closes in. Two old friends can meet after one has changed an important shared memory. State what each character knows, what they want from the exchange and what remains unsaid. A specific starting situation produces clearer roleplay than a broad description, while still leaving you free to change the direction through your replies.
