Chapter 1: Steamy Confessions

The steam in the women’s bathing hall was thick enough to taste, carrying the mineral scent of hot spring water and the faint, floral ghost of last week’s incense. Sakura Haruno sank deeper into the stone pool, the heat seeping into muscles sore from a week of field triage. The lantern light bled through the vapor in soft, orange blooms. It was quiet, peaceful. Or it had been, until the low rumble of male voices filtered through the wooden partition separating the baths.

“...no, seriously, hear me out!”

Sakura’s eyes snapped open. That was Naruto’s voice, slurry with sake and volume.

A grunt. Probably Kiba. “I’m not hearing you out, you idiot. Shikamaru passed out and you’re gonna wake him.”

“But it’s important!” Naruto’s whisper was a stage whisper, carrying perfectly. “A woman… a real woman… she should have some substance to her, you know?”

Sakura went very still. Her breath caught in her throat.

“Substance.” Kiba’s voice was flat.

“Yeah! Like… soft. Really soft. I’m talking curves that don’t quit. A belly that…” Naruto made a wobbly, expansive gesture with his hands, visible as a shadow against the lantern-lit steam. “A belly that spills over when she sits in the bath, you know? Like a pillow. And an ass… kami, an ass so big and perfect it could… it could swallow you whole. That’s the dream.”

There was a long, stunned silence from Kiba’s side. In the women’s bath, Sakura’s face was frozen in a mask of pure, uncomprehending shock. Her own flat, toned stomach, sculpted by years of combat and chakra control, suddenly felt alien.

“You’re disgusting,” Kiba finally muttered, but he sounded more baffled than angry.

“I’m enlightened!” Naruto countered, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial murmur that somehow pierced the wood even clearer. “Think about it. That kind of woman… she’s comfortable. She’s warm. She’s… present. You don’t worry about breaking her. You just get lost in her. It’s the ultimate comfort.”

A soft, choked gasp came from across the water.

Sakura’s head turned slowly. Through the drifting veils of steam, she met a pair of wide, cerulean eyes. Ino Yamanaka was sitting upright, her blonde hair plastered to her neck and shoulders, her mouth slightly agape. They stared at each other over the misty surface. The competitive spark that had lived between them since childhood didn’t ignite; it simply materialized, full-blown and white-hot, in the space of that shared, stolen glance.

He likes… big women.

The unspoken thought hung in the steam between them.

Ino’s gaze, sharp and calculating, dropped. She looked down at her own body—the narrow waist, the defined hips of a kunoichi in peak condition. Then her eyes flicked up to Sakura’s. Not at her face. At her chest, which even in water was notably, frustratingly ample. A different kind of curve.

A slow, wicked smile touched Ino’s lips. It wasn’t friendly.

Sakura felt a flush that had nothing to do with the bathwater creep up her neck. Her mind was a riot of confusion, a frantic scramble. Naruto. All this time. It wasn’t about strength, or power, or even… just being seen. It was about… this? A bizarre, specific, impossible this.

On the other side of the wall, the conversation stumbled to a halt, replaced by the slosh of water and Kiba’s grumbled complaints. The moment was over.

Ino rose from the water. The movement was deliberate, fluid. Beads of water slid down the hourglass silhouette Sakura had always, secretly, been a little envious of. Ino didn’t look shocked anymore. She looked… intrigued. Possessive.

“Well,” Ino said, her voice casual but with a blade’s edge underneath. She wrung out her hair, her eyes never leaving Sakura’s. “That was… educational.”

She stepped out of the pool, grabbed her towel, and began to dry off with an exaggerated, almost theatrical slowness. She patted her flat stomach, a thoughtful expression on her face.

Sakura found her voice, though it came out tighter than she intended. “It was drunk nonsense. He’s had too much sake.”

“Mm.” Ino hummed, noncommittal. She slipped her robe on, tying the sash with a precise, final loop. “Funny, though. He sounded pretty specific for ‘nonsense.’ Pillows. Swallowing whole.” She turned, pausing at the door to the changing room. Her smile was all challenge. “See you tomorrow, Sakura. Don’t train too hard. You might… wear yourself out.”

The door slid shut behind her, leaving Sakura alone in the roaring silence of the bath.

The heat felt oppressive now, clingy. She looked down at her own reflection in the wavering water. The pink hair, the green eyes, the face of a capable medic, a powerful kunoichi. The body of a soldier. All of it, suddenly feeling like the wrong answer to a question she hadn’t known Naruto was asking.

Her hands, calloused and strong, floated on the surface. She thought of ramen bowls stacked high, of his grinning approval. She thought of comfort. Of warmth. Of getting lost.

A strange, reluctant resolve began to crystalize in her gut, cold and heavy amidst the steam. It was ridiculous. It was unhealthy. It was the absolute opposite of everything she stood for.

But Ino’s smirk was burned into her mind.

Sakura took a deep, shaking breath, the humid air filling lungs that suddenly felt too small for her chest. She stood up, water cascading down her form. She didn’t glance at her reflection again.

She had research to do.
