Chapter 2: Pinch Point 1
: The Roadhouse
The sun was a lazy orange orb, dipping below the horizon as the trio pulled into the parking lot of Texas Roadhouse. The neon sign flickered to life, casting a warm glow over the red and white building. The air was filled with the tantalizing aroma of grilled steaks and the faint hum of country music. Ombre's eyes widened with excitement as he took in the scene, his heart pounding with anticipation.
"Wow, this place is amazing," he breathed, his voice filled with awe. "I can't believe we're actually here."
Ankoku chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he looked over at Ombre.
"I'm glad you like it, sweetheart. I've heard their steaks are legendary." He climbed out of the car, his long legs carrying him around to the passenger side. He opened the door, offering his hand to Ombre. "Shall we, my lady?" he teased, a playful grin on his face.
Ombre's cheeks flushed a soft pink, but he took Ankoku's hand, allowing the taller man to help him out of the car. "I'm not a lady," he mumbled, his eyes darting nervously to the ground.
Ankoku's smile softened, his thumb gently brushing against Ombre's cheek. "I know, sweetheart. I was just teasing.
You know that, right?" Ankoku's voice was soft, his eyes filled with a warmth that made Ombre's heart flutter. He took Ombre's hand, lacing their fingers together as they walked towards the entrance of the restaurant. Marek followed close behind, his eyes never leaving the two of them.
Ombre nodded, a small smile playing on his lips. "I know. I know. Let's just go inside already!" Ombre exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with excitement as they approached the entrance. The warm, inviting aroma of the restaurant grew stronger, making his stomach rumble in anticipation. The sound of laughter and the clinking of glasses spilled out from within, adding to the lively atmosphere.
Ankoku chuckled, giving Ombre's hand a gentle squeeze. "Alright, alright, don't rush me. I'm trying to set the mood here." He held the heavy wooden door open, allowing Ombre and Marek to step inside. The interior was a rustic, Western-themed paradise, with dark wood paneling, wagon wheel chandeliers, and an impressive collection of antique farming tools adorning the walls.
The air was thick with the mouthwatering scent of sizzling steaks and the faint twang of country music. The atmosphere was lively, filled with the clinking of glasses, the clatter of cutlery, and the hum of conversation. The dim, warm lighting cast a cozy glow over the room, making it feel intimate and inviting.
A friendly hostess greeted them with a wide smile, her eyes twinkling with genuine warmth. "Welcome to Texas Roadhouse! Table for three?" she asked, her voice as sweet as honey.
"Right this way, please."
Ombre's eyes widened as he took in the interior of the restaurant. The dark wood paneling and the warm, inviting atmosphere made him feel at home. The clinking of glasses and the hum of conversation filled the air, creating a lively and comforting ambiance. He couldn't help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation as he followed the hostess to their table.
The hostess led them to a booth in the corner, away from the bustling crowd. The booth was upholstered in a deep, rich red leather, with a worn, wooden table in the center.
The walls were adorned with vintage posters of classic country music legends, and the air was filled with the tantalizing aroma of grilled steaks and the faint twang of a live country band playing in the corner. Ombre's eyes widened as he took in the scene, his heart pounding with excitement.
Marek nodded in agreement, his eyes scanning the menu.
"This place is amazing. I can't wait to try their famous steaks."
Ankoku chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he looked over at Marek. "You're always so eager to try new things, aren't you?"
Marek grinned, his eyes sparkling with excitement. "Well, I can't help it. I love trying new things. And this place looks like it's got some amazing food."
Ombre's eyes widened as he looked up from his menu, his voice filled with excitement. "I can't wait to try their peanuts! I've heard they're amazing." Ombre's voice was filled with a childlike wonder, his eyes sparkling with excitement. He looked around the restaurant, taking in the rustic decor and the lively atmosphere. "I've never been to a place like this before. It's so... authentic."
Ankoku smiled, his eyes softening as he looked at Ombre. This place is a Texas classic. The food is amazing, and the atmosphere is... well, it's Texas in a nutshell." "You mean it's loud, rowdy, and full of good ol' boys?" Marek teased, a playful grin on his face. He looked around the restaurant, taking in the lively scene. The clinking of glasses and the clatter of cutlery filled the air, punctuated by the occasional whoop or holler from a nearby table. The dim, warm lighting cast a cozy glow over the room, making it feel intimate and inviting despite the bustling crowd.
Ankoku chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Something like that. But don't worry, we're safe from any rowdy behavior. I've got my eye on you both." He winked at Ombre, who blushed and looked down at his menu.
"So, what are you two having?" Ankoku asked, his eyes scanning the menu. "I'm thinking the Texas Roadhouse Classic Steak. It's their signature dish, after all."
Marek nodded, his eyes still fixed on his menu. "That sounds amazing. I think I'll have the same. What about you, Ombre?"
Ombre looked up from his menu, his eyes filled with a mix of excitement and apprehension. I don't know. I've never had steak before! Can I get... the Andy's Steak?"
"Darling, that's on the kid's menu."
"I know, but it includes French Fries!!"
