Chapter 1: Introduction
Silence. The heavy kind that drapes over the world like a thick, velvet curtain. I lay there, the sheets cool against my skin, my eyes adjusting to the dim light filtering through the drawn curtains. The room was unfamiliar, the air tinged with a scent that wasn't mine—a mix of expensive cologne and something darker, more primal. My heart pounded in my chest as I sat up, the sheets pooling around my waist.
And then I saw it. Or rather, I saw the lack of it. I was naked, apart from my heels, which were tucked neatly beneath the bed.
I stared at them for a moment, the black patent leather glinting in the dappled light, as if they were the only familiar thing in this foreign landscape. I ran a hand through my long, dark hair, my fingers tangling in the ends as I tried to remember how I'd gotten here. But my mind was a blank slate, empty as the room around me.
The disorientation was maddening, but I refused to let it show. I was a woman who thrived on control, and this... this was not the kind of chaos I was accustomed to.
I swung my legs over the edge of the bed, the heels clicking softly on the polished wood floor. I stood up, my body moving with a fluid grace honed from years of dance classes and late-night yoga sessions. The room was a symphony of shadows, with splashes of light dancing off the surfaces—a modernist's dream, all clean lines and muted tones. The only pop of color was the vibrant red of a single rose perched on the nightstand, its petals already beginning to wilt.
A soft creaking sound echoed through the room, and I spun around, my heart leaping into my throat.
