Chapter 26: The Aftermath
The darkness in the anteroom was absolute. It pressed against his eyelids, filled his ears, a tangible substance. He could still feel the ghost of the spotlight on his skin, the echo of applause vibrating in his teeth. The shape of Elara in the blur. He leaned against the cold wall, the rough concrete scraping his bare shoulder.
A click. A line of thin, neon-blue light appeared along the floor, outlining a door he hadn’t seen. It opened silently.
Maya stood in the doorway, backlit by the eerie glow of neon tubes. She had shed the sheer gown. Now she wore only a black silk robe, loosely tied. Her pink hair was a messy halo. In her hands, she held his bundled clothes and shoes.
“You can’t go out there,” she said, her voice flat. Not a suggestion. A fact.
“Elara was there.” His own voice was a ragged scrape.
“I know.” Maya stepped into the room, letting the door sigh shut behind her. The neon light from the corridor seeped under the door, painting her calves in sickly blue. “You think I didn’t invite her? She’s my sister. It’s a family piece.”
The cruelty of it was so precise it stole his breath. He felt a sudden, violent urge to shove her, to see her slight body hit the wall. He didn’t move.
“Why?” was all he could manage.
“Authenticity,” she said, as if explaining something simple to a child. She dropped his clothes onto the floor. “The aftermath is part of the work. The fracture. The truth of what you are.” She stepped closer. He could smell her perfume, something expensive and bleak, and beneath it, the faint, salty tang of his own spend. It was still on her breath. “The contract covers this. The dissolution of prior attachments. It’s in the ancillary clauses.”
“You’re insane.”
“I’m thorough.” She reached out and placed a cool hand on his chest, over his pounding heart. “The night isn’t over. The performance was for them. What comes next is for the archive.”
She turned and opened the door again. “Follow me. Unless you want to walk through the main gallery like that to find her. See how that conversation goes.”
He looked at the pile of his clothes. A lifeline to a person he no longer was. Leaving them felt like shedding a skin. He followed her.
The corridor was narrow, lined with the pulsating neon tubes that emitted a low, angry buzz. Their light made the concrete look wet, diseased. She led him to another door, heavy and soundproofed. Inside was a different kind of space. A private viewing room. One wall was a giant monitor, currently black. In the center, lit by a single recessed spotlight, was a low leather chaise, deep and worn. A tripod stood beside it, a professional video camera mounted, its red recording light a tiny, unblinking eye. A laptop glowed on a side table, showing frozen footage—a blurred, backlit image of a man on a platform. Him.
Maya shrugged off her robe. It whispered to the floor. She was naked beneath, her body pale and sharp in the clinical light. She walked to the laptop and tapped a key. The room filled with sound—muffled crowd noise, the wet, rhythmic sound of a mouth working on flesh, his own choked gasp: “Fuck.”
“The audio is exceptional,” she said, without looking at him. She maximized the window. On the huge wall monitor, the video played. High-definition, crystal clear. It was shot from behind the polymer screen, through it. The audience was a soft-focus backdrop. He saw himself in stark, brutal detail: the panic in his eyes, the helpless arch of his back, his fingers tearing at her pink hair. He saw his own face contort as he came.
“Get on your knees,” Maya said, her eyes fixed on the screen.
“No.”
She paused the video. On the wall, he was frozen in mid-spasm, a grotesque statue of pleasure. She turned to him. “You’re already broken, Aidan. She saw. You think you can glue the pieces back together and pretend it’s the same vase? You belong to the work now. This is the only place you fit.” Her gaze was empty of warmth, full of a chilling curiosity. “Kneel.”
His legs gave way. Not in submission, but in sheer systemic failure. The concrete was icy against his kneecaps.
She walked over, the video of his degradation playing silently on the wall behind her. She stopped before his face. The musk of her arousal hit him first, a fertile, acidic scent cut through with the ozone of the gallery. Then he saw the glistening evidence, the slickness on her inner thighs.
“You made this,” she whispered, spreading her feet. “Your little performance got me soaked. Now clean it up.”
She guided his head forward with a hand in his hair. His nose pressed into her coarse, trimmed curls. Her taste exploded on his tongue—bitter, salty, profoundly intimate. It was the taste of his own ruin. He recoiled, but her grip tightened.
“Lick,” she commanded.
He closed his eyes. The sounds from the laptop—his sounds—filled the room. He obeyed. His tongue found the swollen seam of her, traced it roughly. He felt her twitch.
“Your tongue is as pathetic as your conscience. Fucking focus.”
He probed deeper, finding the hard nub of her clit. He circled it, then sucked it into his mouth. Her hips jerked. A short, sharp gasp left her. On the wall, his frozen image loomed.
“Yes,” she hissed. “Just like that. God, you’re so good when you’re being used.”
He lost himself in the mechanics of it, in the foul poetry of the act. He ate her out with a furious, shameful diligence, drinking her down, lapping at her entrance, pushing his tongue inside her as deep as he could. Her knees trembled. Her other hand fisted in his hair, yanking him harder against her. The wet, sloppy sounds he made mixed with the recorded soundtrack of his own downfall.
“I’m gonna come,” she announced, her voice strangled. “Don’t you fucking stop.”
Her thighs clamped around his ears. Her whole body went rigid. A guttural, wrenching cry tore from her throat, utterly different from the performative moan in the gallery. This was raw, animal, real. He felt her convulse around his tongue, a series of frantic pulses, and a hot rush of fluid flooded his mouth. He choked, swallowing convulsively.
She held him there, grinding against his face until the last shudder passed. Then she pushed his head away. He knelt, gasping, her taste and scent smeared across his chin and cheeks.
She looked spent, glorious, terrifying. She wiped a hand over her forehead. “Good. Now get on the chaise.”
He moved like an automaton. The leather was cold, sticky. He lay back. His cock, spent and sore, lay against his thigh. The recording had looped; he heard the applause start again.
Maya climbed onto the chaise, straddling his hips. She reached between her legs, took him in her hand. He was soft. She spit into her palm, the saliva mingling with her own juices, and began to stroke him with a rough, practiced grip. “You’ll get hard for me,” she murmured, watching his face. “You don’t have a choice. Your body knows what it’s for now.”
She was right. Under her relentless, degrading touch, blood began to flow again, a traitorous response. He thickened, lengthened, until he was fully erect, standing achingly hard between them. The sensitivity from his earlier climax was a sharp undercurrent to the new arousal.
“Look at this fucking thing,” she breathed, a note of genuine awe in her voice. She guided his massive head to her entrance, which was still loose and dripping from her orgasm. “It ruined me. It’s going to ruin me all over again.”
She didn’t lower herself slowly. She sank down onto him in one ruthless, claiming slide.
He cried out. The feeling was catastrophic. She was impossibly tight, a scorching, wet vise that stretched to accommodate his girth. She was so deep he felt her cervix nudge the tip of his cock.
“Oh, god,” she moaned, her head falling back. She began to ride him, not with artful grace, but with a frantic, hungry abandon. Each downward slam was a punishment. Each upward grind was a theft. Her tits bounced. Sweat sheened her pale skin.
“You feel that?” she panted, leaning forward, her hands on his chest. “That’s where you live now. This cunt is your home. You fill it so fucking perfectly.” She increased her pace, her words coming in sharp bursts. “You came in my mouth for an audience… now come in my pussy for the archive… I want it… I want to feel you pump this disgusting load into me…”
He was helpless. The coil wound tight again, faster this time, fueled by self-loathing and a perverse, undeniable thrill. The sight of her riding him, the sounds of their bodies slapping together, the silent, giant video of his humiliation playing on a loop—it was too much.
“I’m… I’m close…”
“Do it,” she snarled. “Fill your hole. Mark your fucking property.”
With a broken shout, he came. It was a deeper, more wrenching orgasm than the first, a flood from a poisoned well. He bucked beneath her, pumping jet after hot jet deep into her clutching depths. She milked him through it, clenching around him, wringing out every last drop.
When he was spent, utterly empty, she collapsed forward onto his chest. He could feel his own pulse hammering against her. His spend leaked out around where they were still joined, a warm trickle on his balls.
After a long minute, she lifted her head. She kissed him. It was deep, possessive, filthy. He could taste himself on her, and her on himself, a closed loop of corruption.
She pulled off him with a soft, wet sound and stood, his semen already dripping down her thigh. She walked, unconcerned, to the camera on the tripod. She pressed a button. The tiny red light went out.
“We got that,” she said, nodding at the camera. “The post-performance documentation. Vital for the thesis.” She turned to look at him, a sprawled, ruined thing on the leather. “Get dressed. You can use the service elevator. I’ll text you the dropbox link for the raw footage. You should review it.”
She picked up her robe, slipped it on. She was already moving on, already curating.
Aidan sat up. The world had not ended. It had simply narrowed to this: the ache in his groin, the taste in his mouth, the link to a video file that would prove, beyond all denial, what he was. He found his clothes and put them on. The fabric felt alien against his skin.
He left without another word. The service elevator was a rattling cage of steel. As it descended, his phone buzzed in his pocket. Once. A notification.
He didn’t need to look to know what it was. The archive had been updated. The fracture was complete. Now he had to walk out into the ordinary night and pretend, for however long he could, that he was still a man who had a girlfriend to go home to.
