Chapter 3: The Shy Confession

The scent of coffee, rich and dark, cut through the lingering haze of lavender and sleep. Aidan stood at Zelda’s kitchen counter, his broad back to her, methodically pressing the French plunger. The afternoon sun poured through the tall windows, gilding the dust motes and making the leaves of her basil plant glow like green glass. He was wearing his jeans from yesterday, no shirt, the muscles of his shoulders and back shifting under skin marked faintly with the ghosts of her nails.

Zelda sat at the butcher-block island, wrapped in a worn robe, her knees pulled up to her chest. She watched him. The domesticity of it, the quiet, was a louder proclamation than anything said in the dark. Her body felt deliciously used, a familiar ache between her thighs a reminder of his thoroughness. And of his tenderness. The two were intertwined now, inseparable.

He brought over two mismatched mugs, setting one before her. “No milk. Just how you like it.” He’d remembered.

“Thanks.” She wrapped her hands around the warm ceramic, inhaling the steam. She felt transparent, like the sunlight was shining right through her, illuminating every secret corner. The thought from the morning—sharp, shameful, thrilling—buzzed in her chest like a trapped insect.

He leaned against the counter opposite her, sipping his coffee, his eyes on her face. He was waiting. He was always waiting, letting the silence speak until she was ready to fill it.

“So,” she said, her voice aiming for light and landing somewhere fragile. “That was… a morning.”

A faint smile touched his lips. “It was.”

“I meant what I said. About feeling seen.” She looked into her mug. “It’s terrifying.”

“For me too.” His admission was quiet, gravelly.

She took a fortifying sip. The bitter liquid grounded her. The secret pressed against her teeth. She had never told anyone. Not a soul. The fantasy felt too twisted, too exposing in a way that mere nudity wasn’t. It spoke to a need for validation, for an audience to witness her being claimed, that she couldn’t quite square with her own self-image.

But he had seen her come apart. He had held her through it. What was one more layer?

“I have this… thing,” she blurted out, the words too loud in the sunny quiet. Her cheeks burned. “A fantasy. I’ve never told anyone. It just popped into my head this morning, after.”

His expression didn’t change, but his gaze intensified, focusing wholly on her. He took another slow sip of coffee. “Okay.”

“It’s stupid.” She backtracked instantly.

“Doubt it.” He set his mug down. “Tell me.”

She looked anywhere but at him. At the sketchbook filled with pressed flowers, at the jar of honey with the crystallized grains at the bottom. “Sometimes, when I’m… you know. Thinking. I imagine that someone is watching. Not like, creepily. But… intentionally. That they’re seeing me. With someone. The way you were looking at me.” She risked a glance at him. His eyes had darkened, but not with judgment. With deep, keen interest. “It makes it feel… more real. I don’t know why.”

Aidan was silent for a long moment. He pushed off the counter and came to sit on the stool beside her, his bare knee brushing her robe-covered thigh. The contact was electric.

“You want to be watched,” he said, not as a question, but as a clarification. He was an engineer. He needed to define the parameters.

She nodded, mortified, hot all over.

He studied her face. “Does the ‘who’ matter? In the fantasy?”

She shook her head. “It’s usually faceless. Just… a presence. An eye.”

He nodded slowly, his mind clearly working. He traced a whorl in the wood of the island with a calloused fingertip. “We could do that.”

Her heart stuttered. “What?”

“We could film it.” He said it calmly, as if suggesting they try a new recipe. “You. Me. The phone on a shelf. You’d know it was there. You’d know it was watching.” He finally looked at her, his gaze steady. “Then it’s just us, and the idea of it. Controlled. Safe.”

The air vanished from the room. Her fantasy, vague and shapeless, suddenly had form. A lens. A red recording light. His body moving over hers, documented. The idea was so profoundly erotic she felt dizzy.

“You’d… want to?” she whispered.

He let out a short, soft breath that wasn’t quite a laugh. “Zelda, the thought of you wanting that, of being the one with you while you explore it?” He shook his head, as if words failed him. “Yeah. I want to.”

The permission, the shared complicity, was a key turning in a lock she’d kept tightly shut. A slow, daring smile spread across her face. “I have a little tripod. For book photography.”

“Of course you do.” His dry wit was back, but his eyes were blazing.

It happened with a practical, charged efficiency. She fetched the small, flexible tripod from a drawer. He examined it, an engineer assessing a tool. They moved back to the bedroom, which now swam with afternoon gold. The rumpled bed was a testament to what had already occurred.

“Where?” he asked.

She pointed to the top of a low bookshelf that faced the bed. “There.”

He fixed the phone securely, angled it down toward the mattress. He opened the camera app, switched to video. The screen showed a top-down view of her quilt, waiting. He turned to her. “You set it off. You control it.”

Her fingers trembled slightly as she took the phone. She framed the shot, making sure the whole bed was in view. Her thumb hovered over the red button. Her breath was shallow. This was it. A line, once crossed, that couldn’t be uncrossed.

She looked at Aidan. He stood by the bed, watching her, his expression serene, patient. He gave a single, slow nod.

She pressed record.

The world narrowed to the sound of the phone’s silent filming, a third presence in the room. She placed the phone back on the tripod. The red light was a tiny, accusing eye. She turned to face him.

For a moment, they just looked at each other. The self-consciousness was a living thing. Then he stepped forward, closing the distance. He didn’t kiss her. He reached for the belt of her robe, undid the knot with deliberate slowness. The fabric fell open. He pushed it off her shoulders, let it pool on the floor. The cool air kissed her skin, but the heat of his gaze was warmer.

“Look at it,” he murmured, his voice low, for her and the microphone alone. He tilted his chin toward the phone. “Know it’s there. Then look at me.”

She did. She saw the tiny glint of the lens, the silent witness. Then she looked back at Aidan. Something shifted. The self-consciousness melted, replaced by a bold, theatrical hunger. She wasn’t just Zelda having sex. She was Zelda performing it, for him, for the camera, for the fantasy itself.

She reached for the button of his jeans. “Your turn.”

He let her undress him, his body responding avidly to her touch. When he was bare, she guided him back onto the bed, following him down. This time, she was on top. She straddled him, but didn’t take him inside. Not yet. She leaned over, her curls brushing his chest, and kissed him. It was a different kiss—slower, more deliberate, aware of the angle from the shelf.

He understood. His hands on her hips were guides, not commanders. She rose up, positioned him, and sank down in one fluid, breathtaking motion, her head falling back as she took him fully. A low moan escaped her, perfectly captured in the quiet room.

“God, you feel,” he gritted out, his hands sliding up to cup her breasts, his thumbs circling her nipples.

She began to move, a slow, undulating ride, her eyes open, locked on his. But her awareness was split. She felt every inch of him filling her, stretching her. And she felt the unblinking eye of the camera, drinking in the arch of her back, the shift of her muscles, the sweat gathering in the hollow of her throat. It was the most potent aphrodisiac she’d ever known.

“They can see you,” Aidan whispered, his voice rough. “They can see how beautiful you look taking me. How much you love it.”

His words, painting the picture for the invisible audience, shattered her. Her rhythm faltered. He took over, rolling her beneath him in a tangle of limbs. He entered her again, deeper from this angle. The pace was urgent now, the bedframe giving a soft, rhythmic complaint. He was everywhere—his mouth on her neck, his hands pinning hers, his body driving into hers with a force that felt both claiming and worshipping.

She came first, a silent, screaming climax that clenched around him, her body bowing off the mattress. He followed seconds after, his release punching a guttural sound from his chest as he buried himself inside her, spilling deep as she’d asked for, as she’d always secretly craved.

They collapsed, a heap of slick skin and shuddering breaths. The room was silent except for their panting. The little red light on the phone still glowed.

After a long while, Aidan shifted, reached up, and without looking, waved a hand in front of the bookshelf. There was a faint beep as the recording stopped.

The spell broke. The third presence vanished.

He gathered her against him. She was trembling, not from cold, but from the aftershocks of vulnerability and intense fulfillment.

“So?” he said into her hair, his voice soft.

She was quiet, processing the enormity of what they’d done. The fantasy was no longer abstract. It was a digital file on her phone. And it had been… more. Not just the physical act, but the shared conspiracy of it, his willingness to not just accept, but to build the fantasy with her.

She tilted her head up to look at him. The late afternoon sun haloed his messy hair. “I don’t know if I ever want to watch it,” she admitted quietly. “Just knowing it exists… that we did that… is enough.”

He kissed her forehead, a tender seal on the agreement. “It’s yours. You delete it, you keep it, you burn it onto a DVD and bury it in the garden. It’s yours.”

She nestled closer, the warm evidence of their joining still leaking onto her thighs. The fantasy was fulfilled, but the man holding her was real. And that, she realized as she listened to his heartbeat steady under her ear, was infinitely more compelling than any faceless audience.
