Set in Dragon Age Origins. Kerr Cousland is tasked with watching the castle while his brother Fergus and Father ride out. He is met by Lady Landra, her son Darren, and her elven lady in waiting, Iona. Kerr flirts with Iona openly after lady Landra expresses embarrassment over flirting with Kerr at a party last summer. Kerr invites Iona up to his chambers after everyone falls asleep. He visits Lady Landra’s chambers first.

Chapter 2: The Elf at His Threshold

The water in the basin was lukewarm, turning cloudy as he scrubbed the scent of lavender and sex from his skin. Kerr leaned over the stand, the muscles in his broad back shifting under the candlelight. He rinsed the cloth, wrung it out, and gave himself a final, efficient pass. The fire in his hearth had burned down to embers, leaving the room in a state of comfortable disarray—his unmade bed, a half-empty tankard of ale still sweating on the desk beside a stack of unread letters from his brother, Fergus. The silence was a physical thing, heavy and complete.

A soft knock at the door was barely a sound at all.

He didn’t move. “It’s open.”

The oak door swung inward slowly. Iona stood on the threshold, her elven features sharp and beautiful in the shadowed corridor. She was still dressed in her simple day gown, her hands clasped neatly before her. Her eyes, however, darted past him to the rumpled bed, then to his naked form by the washstand. A faint blush colored her cheeks, but she didn’t look away.

“My lord,” she said, her voice calm. “I saw you leave the Lady Landra’s wing.”

“I’m not much for sneaking, it seems.” He turned to face her fully, making no move to cover himself. Water droplets traced paths down his chest. “Come in, Iona. Close the door. You’ll let the warmth out.”

She obeyed, the click of the latch echoing in the quiet room. She stayed near the door, a statue of composed service. “She is sleeping. Very deeply.”

“Good,” Kerr said, his tone gentle. He took a step toward her, then another. He moved with a relaxed confidence that seemed to shrink the room. “She deserves a restful night.”

“You are…” Iona began, then stopped, searching for the right word that wasn’t an accusation.

“I am what?” He was close enough now that she had to tilt her head up to meet his gaze. He smiled, and it wasn’t the predatory grin she might have feared. It was warm, open. “I’m glad you’re here. I’ve been hoping you’d visit.”

Her composure flickered. “My lord flatters me. I am a servant.”

“You’re Iona,” he corrected softly. He reached out and tucked a stray strand of dark hair behind her pointed ear. His finger brushed her skin, and she shuddered. “You’re the one with the clever eyes that see everything. The one who mends Lady Landra’s favorite gowns with stitches so small they’re invisible. You have elegant hands.” He took one of those hands in his. Her fingers were cool and fine-boned. “And you’re here, very late, when no one is likely to miss you for some time.”

He saw the conflict in her eyes—duty warring with a want she’d likely buried for years. “My duties—”

“Are important,” he finished for her. “I know. But I wonder… how much of your life is duty, Iona? How much do you ever set aside just for pleasure? For yourself?”

The question hung between them, intimate and devastating in its simplicity. It acknowledged the truth of her existence—a life of anticipated needs, of silent observation, of service. Her loyalty to Landra was real, but so was the lonely space inside her it created.

She didn’t answer with words. Her free hand came up, trembling slightly, and her fingertips touched the center of his chest, over his heart. It was permission. A surrender.

He bent and kissed her. It was slower, sweeter than the kiss he’d shared with Landra. He was learning her. Her mouth yielded under his, and a small, desperate sound escaped her throat. He walked her backwards gently until her legs met the edge of his bed.

“Let me,” he murmured against her lips, echoing the promise he’d made in another room. His hands went to the laces of her dress, his movements patient and deliberate. The plain fabric pooled at her feet, revealing a slender body, pale in the dim light. He laid her back on the cool sheets and knelt between her legs.

He took his time. His mouth on her neck, her collarbone, the swell of her small breast. He kissed a trail down her stomach, his hands spreading her thighs. When his breath warmed her core, she tensed.

“Kerr…”

“Shhh,” he soothed, his voice a vibration against her skin. “Just let me.”

His tongue was a gentle probe, then a firm stroke. He learned her taste, her rhythm. She was quieter than Landra, her reactions a tense, coiled restraint. He coaxed her open with languid, circling passes of his tongue until her hips began a tiny, involuntary rock against his mouth. Only then did he bring a finger to her entrance, sliding it into her wet heat while his thumb stroked her clit.

A gasp broke from her, sharp and real.

He added a second finger, curling them inside her, finding a spot that made her back arch off the bed. Her control was fraying, her breathing coming in ragged pants. He withdrew his fingers, slick and gleaming, and brought them lower. The pressure against her other entrance was insistent, questioning. She flinched, a soft “oh” of surprise leaving her lips, but she didn’t pull away. He pressed gently, just the very tip of his finger, as his tongue returned to her clit with relentless focus.

The dual sensation shattered her. Her orgasm hit silently at first, a full-body rigidity, then broke into a series of choked, sobbing cries into the crook of her arm. He gentled her through it, his touch softening to whispers.

Before she could come down, he turned her onto her stomach. He kissed the back of her neck, the notch of her spine, the twin curves of her rear. He used his tongue there, too, a bold, wet stripe that made her jerk and whimper into the mattress. A finger, still slick from her own arousal, pressed and entered her from behind as his other hand slipped beneath her, finding her clit again.

She was incoherent, babbling half-words into the sheets. He fucked her with his fingers in both holes, a slow, scissoring rhythm that pulled another climax from her, this one leaving her boneless and weeping.

He pulled her onto her back. His eyes were dark, his expression intense but kind. He guided himself into her, pushing past the initial tight clasp with a steady, unyielding pressure that forced a long, shattered moan from her lips. He filled her completely, a stretching, burning fullness that gradually melted into a deep, throaching ache of pleasure. He moved in long, deep strokes, watching her face contort, her pointed ears flushed dark.

He shifted them, pulling out and rolling her onto her side, curling his big body around her slender frame. He entered her again from behind, his arm hooked under her knee, opening her up to him. This angle was deeper, more possessive. His pace quickened, turning rough, his breath hot and ragged against her ear. She could only take it, overwhelmed, her mind blank of everything but the feel of him pounding into her, the slap of skin, the animal grunts forced from his throat.

With a final, brutal thrust, he held himself deep and still. A hot flood pulsed inside her, filling her in quick, successive bursts. He groaned, a raw, unfiltered sound of release.

For a long moment, there was only the sound of their struggling breaths. Then, he carefully withdrew and collapsed beside her, one heavy arm thrown across her waist.

Iona felt adrift. The room seemed to swim. Pleasure still echoed through her nerves like distant thunder, but her mind was a quiet, blank space. Language, thought, worry—it had all been fucked out of her. A profound, heavy satisfaction anchored her to the bed. She was aware of his weight beside her, the smell of their sex, the cool air on her sweat-damp skin. But she couldn’t form a sentence. Couldn’t move.

She felt him shift, then the familiar touch of a damp, warm cloth between her thighs, cleaning her with the same practiced tenderness he’d shown her lady. The simplicity of the act, the care in it, was the final straw.

Her eyes closed. Consciousness didn’t slip away—it fell like a stone into a deep, silent well.

Kerr pulled the blanket over her still form. He watched the even rise and fall of her breath for a moment, then sat on the edge of the bed, listening to the absolute quiet of the castle settling into the deepest part of the night.
