Chapter 6: The Terrible Ordeal
"Well, well, well, what have we here? The black pirate from earlier," Rodrigo said, catching me trying to steal his newly acquired treasure from the small table.
The shadows cast by the flickering candles danced upon his increasingly sinister grin. "You are truly bold to come to my ship, but that's why I like you."
Captain Blackwood's face tensed, her focus shifting towards the confrontation between Rodrigo and me. Captain Hawkswell remained stoic, surveying the scene with a practiced eye.
Rodrigo's threatening tone caught me off guard, but I managed to maintain a confident stance. The lessons imparted by the pirate captains were well-rehearsed in my mind.
Suddenly, Rodrigo summons a few of his men to attack me. Brandishing my blade, I proceeded to fight the enemies.
The first one lunged at me with a clumsy swing of his cutlass. I sidestepped his attack with ease and countered with a swift strike, disarming him. He yelped in pain as my blade grazed his arm. The next two came at me simultaneously, their swords clashing against mine. I parried their blows, my heart pounding like a drum in my chest. I could feel the adrenaline surging through my veins, heightening my senses and sharpening my reflexes.
"Amir, be careful!" Captain Blackwood's voice rang out, a note of concern laced within her words.
I turned around and saw the captain, flanked by 2 of her crewmates, one of them being a female who knew how to operate a flintlock pistol. They managed to take down a few of them as I made my way to the Golden Llama and escaped from the treasure room.
Somehow, I still have my memories of my previous life in modern-day Somalia. I managed to take a few of Rodrigo's crew down using my guerilla tactics. As I got out of the ship, Captain Hawkswell arrived.
"Captain Hawkswell! I got the Golden Llama!" I told him.
"Where's Captain Blackwood?" he asked me back.
"She's nearby," I assured him, holding up the golden llama sculpture with a sense of accomplishment. "We should get out of here before more of Rodrigo's men come looking for us."
Captain Hawkswell nodded in agreement, his eyes scanning the area for any signs of danger. "Let's make our way back to The Scarlet Serpent," he said, his voice low but firm.
As we swiftly navigated through the dark maze of Rodrigo's ship, I couldn't help but feel a strange sense of relief wash over me. Despite my initial reservations about this mission, I had managed to snatch Rodrigo's prize and make it out alive—albeit with a few new scars to add to my collection.
As we hastily made our way back towards The Scarlet Serpent under the cover of darkness, I couldn't shake off the feeling of accomplishment that surged through me.
"Rodrigo won't take this lying down," Captain Hawkswell murmured beside me, his eyes scanning the shadows for any sign of pursuit. "He'll be out for blood."
I nodded in agreement, clutching the golden llama tightly in my hand. "And if he finds us first..."
Captain Hawkswell's lips curled into a smirk as he patted me on the back. "Then we'll be ready for him."
As we finally reached our ship, I could see Captain Blackwood barking orders to her crew as they hastily prepared for our departure.
[A few moments later...]
The sun rose as The Scarlet Serpent sailed on the way back to Port Royal.
"We managed to steal the Golden Llama from that filthy pirate!" the woman from earlier said.
"Yeah, but we had to lose a few of our crewmates. We had to say a few prayers, and bury them at sea," her partner said.
"But hey, a victory's a victory," Captain Blackwood said.
"Yeah," Captain Hawkswell concurred. "For now, we celebrate. Later, we plan our next objective."
