A biker gang/werewolf pack story about the gang’s alpha whose fated mate ends up a soft looking male omega that despite the struggles he had growing up has plenty of fire to stand up for himself and what is right.

Characters

  • Duncan Barrett — A soft-looking male omega who wanders from town to town looking for work. Despite a history of being marginalized and underestimated due to his status, he possesses a sharp tongue and a courageous spirit that refuses to back down from bullies.
  • Jared Whitaker — The Alpha of the pack and leader of the 'Iron Howl' biker gang. He is fiercely protective of his territory and his pack, maintaining order on the road with an iron fist, but he finds his usual aggressive authority challenged by his fated mate.
  • Danny — A younger man with a wiry frame and a sharp grin. He is hostile toward Duncan, testing him.
  • Marcus — A huge, dark-skinned man who works as the pack's mechanic. He is friendly and immediately likes Duncan.
  • Sofia — A woman with sharp grey eyes and a leather jacket covered in patches. She is dryly amused and protective of Duncan.
  • Cole — A young wolf who rides the borders and reports to Jared. He brought news of the Coyotl scout.
  • Barrett — A lean, sandy-haired wolf who rides the eastern rotation. He is quiet and kind, having nodded at Duncan with kindness when no one else would.
  • Reese — A wiry young wolf who rides the northern perimeter. He brought the Coyotl warning to the clubhouse, his face gray and hands shaking.

Chapter 7: The Overlook

The yard had that electric hum that only came when the pack was about to move, engines crackling to life in the gravel lot behind the clubhouse. Duncan stood by the chain-link fence, one boot resting on a low rail, watching the last of the sunset bleed out of the sky. The evening air had teeth in it, thin and sharp, and he pulled his denim jacket tighter around his shoulders.

Boots crunched on gravel behind him. Jared's scent hit him before the man did, that mix of leather, motor oil, and something wild and distinctly his. The mate bond hummed low in Duncan's chest, a quiet warmth that had been settling there all day like a stone coming to rest in a stream.

"Ready?" Jared's voice came from close, too close, and Duncan didn't bother pretending he hadn't heard the approach.

"Been ready." Duncan turned, and there it was again, that little hitch in his chest when he caught Jared's eyes. Amber in the dying light, tracking him with that predatory stillness that made Duncan's stomach flip. "You gonna teach me the territory, alpha?"

Jared's mouth curved, barely. He held out a helmet, matte black with scuffs along the jaw line. "Put this on."

Duncan took it, turned it over in his hands. "You wear one?"

"Don't need to. You do."

"Because I'm precious cargo?"

The look Jared gave him could have melted steel. "Because if anything happened to you, I'd burn this whole desert down finding whoever caused it. Helmet."

Duncan laughed, a real one that surprised him. He jammed the helmet on, buckled it under his chin. "Alright, alright. Precious cargo, got it."

Jared swung onto the bike, a heavy black machine that looked like it could eat the highway for breakfast. Duncan settled in behind him, and the moment his thighs bracketed Jared's hips, the alpha went still. A full second of silence, of that coiled tension in Jared's shoulders.

"You good?" Jared asked, voice rough.

"Never better." Duncan wrapped his arms around Jared's waist, pressed his chest to the solid plane of that back. "Take me somewhere."

The bike roared to life, and they shot out of the yard like a bullet leaving a barrel.

The desert opened around them, vast and darkening, the sky going from bruised purple to a deep indigo that swallowed the horizon. The bike ate the miles, and Duncan let himself sink into it, into the vibration between his legs, the wind screaming past his ears, the warm solid body in front of him that smelled like home. He'd had plenty of things taken from him. He wasn't letting go of this.

They rode for what felt like an hour, maybe more, past the turnoffs and the forgotten service roads, deeper into the canyons that Jared knew like the lines on his own palms. The road pitched upward, winding through rock that loomed dark on both sides, and then the terrain opened and they crested a ridge.

The bike slowed, then stopped.

Jared cut the engine. Silence rushed in, huge and complete, broken only by the tick of cooling metal and the distant whisper of wind through pines.

Duncan lifted his head from Jared's shoulder and caught his breath.

They sat on a jagged ledge of stone that jutted out over the valley, a sprawl of black below them, pinpricks of light scattered across the distance like stars that had fallen to earth. The air was cold and clean, smelling of pine and rock dust. Above, the sky was a cathedral of stars, sharp and countless.

"Jesus." Duncan slid off the bike, feet hitting the gritty stone. He walked to the edge, not too close, but close enough that the drop yawned below him, dizzying and dark. "This is yours?"

"All of it." Jared dismounted, moved to stand beside him, close enough that their shoulders almost brushed. "Every ridge, every wash, every little town down there. That's Iron Howl territory."

"Big."

"Big enough."

The wind picked up, cutting through Duncan's jacket. He didn't shiver, not quite, but he felt the cold on his skin. He was aware of Jared's eyes on him, that heaviness of attention, the weight of a predator fixing its gaze.

"You alright?" Jared asked.

"I'm fine."

Silence. The stars wheeled overhead.

"I'm not." Jared's voice came low, rough, torn in a way Duncan had never heard before. "I'm not fine, Duncan."

Duncan turned. Jared stood there, big and brutal and carved from stone, but there was something raw in his face, open in a way that made Duncan's chest ache.

"What is it?"

Jared looked at him for a long moment. Then he looked away, out at the valley, and his jaw worked like he was grinding the words before he could let them out. "I've been running this pack for ten years. Fought for it, bled for it. Never once been afraid of anything out there." A pause. "Then you showed up in that diner, with your pie and your smart mouth and your courage. And now I'm terrified."

Duncan's heart stuttered. "Of what?"

"Of losing you." Jared's voice had dropped to a gravelly whisper, bare and raw. "Every time you walk out of a room, something in me twists. Every time I smell your blood, even a scratch. I've never been scared of dying, Duncan. I'm scared of you being taken from me. I'm scared you'll decide this is too much, that a pack of broken mongrels isn't worth the grief, and you'll get on that little bike of yours and ride out of my life."

The wind whipped between them. Duncan stood very still.

"You think I'm going to leave?" Duncan asked, his voice quiet.

"I think you'd be a fool not to consider it."

Duncan laughed, but there was no cruelty in it. He stepped forward, closing the space between them, and placed a hand flat on Jared's chest, over the heavy thump of his heart. "You really don't know anything, do you, alpha? You think I've been surviving all these years for fun?" He shook his head slowly. "I ran because I had to. Because there was nothing, nowhere, nobody worth staying for."

He held Jared's gaze and saw the flicker of something desperate in those amber eyes.

"You're here now," Duncan said. "So I'm staying."

Jared let out a breath that was almost a shudder, and the tension in his massive frame cracked. He reached for Duncan with both hands, gripping his hips, pulling him in close.

"Fuck," Jared breathed. "I've never..." He trailed off, shaking his head.

Duncan didn't let him finish. He reached up, grabbed a fistful of Jared's henley, and pulled him down into a kiss that was all hunger and heat and claim. Jared made a sound, low and wrecked, and his hands tightened, but Duncan broke the kiss to say, "Show me what your omega is willing to give."

The air on the ledge was cold, but Jared's body ran hot. Duncan kicked a leg over, straddling his lap on the stone beside the idling bike, taking what he wanted. He fisted his hand in the collar of Jared's jacket and yanked him close, pressing himself flush against the line of his body. He could feel him, hard and thick, pressing against his thigh, and the scent of Jared's need flooded the air, making Duncan's wolf surge up inside his chest.

"Look at you," Duncan breathed, biting his lip. "So big and scary, and I've got you more worked up than a damn territorial dispute."

Jared's laugh was a breathless rumble. "You have no idea what you do to me."

"Then show me." Duncan grabbed Jared's hand and dragged it to the button of his own jeans. "I'm not breakable. I'm not gonna run. I'm your mate, and I want you in me."

Jared's eyes went dark. His gaze traced Duncan's body, slow and hungry, and when he spoke, his voice had dropped to a low growl. "You're gonna be the death of me, omega."

"I'm gonna be the life of you."

Jared's hands came up to cup Duncan's face, thumbs stroking his cheekbones. He kissed him again, deeper this time, more controlled, a claiming that said mine, and Duncan moaned into it, opening his mouth, letting Jared taste him. He reached down between them, palming Jared through his jeans, feeling the thick heat of him, and Jared groaned against his mouth.

"That's it," Duncan whispered. "I want you to fuck me, Jared. Right here, under the stars. Take me apart."

Jared looked at him, and the wildness in his eyes softened into something that made Duncan's chest ache. He bent and pressed his forehead to Duncan's, breathing him in.

"You're my home, Duncan. My whole pack, right here."

Jared's hands roamed Duncan's body like he was mapping territory he'd never get tired of claiming. Big palms swept up his sides, thumbs pressing into the dip of his waist, then sliding higher to drag over his ribs through the wool of his sweater. Duncan arched into the touch, breath catching as Jared's fingers found the hem and slipped underneath, skin meeting skin, hot and electric.

"You feel that?" Jared murmured against his mouth. "Every inch of you. I could spend a lifetime learning you and still starve."

Duncan's laugh was a shiver. "Then stop talking about it and learn."

Jared's growl vibrated through his chest, straight into Duncan's own. He shoved Duncan's jacket off his shoulders, letting it fall to the stone behind him, and his hands found the hem of the sweater, tugging it up. Duncan lifted his arms, letting Jared pull it over his head, and the cold night air hit his skin, raising goosebumps across his chest. Jared's eyes tracked down his body, slow and hungry, and he made a sound low in his throat.

"Fuck, Duncan."

"You like what you see?"

Jared answered by leaning in and dragging his mouth across Duncan's collarbone, teeth grazing the skin, then lower, tongue flat against his nipple. Duncan gasped, fingers burying in Jared's coarse hair, holding him there. Jared worked his mouth over Duncan's chest, nipping and sucking, leaving a trail of heat in his wake, and his hands found the button of Duncan's jeans.

"These off. Now."

"Bossy," Duncan breathed, but he was already helping, lifting his hips so Jared could peel the denim down his thighs. His cock sprang free, hard and leaking, and Jared's gaze dropped to it with that predatory stillness.

"You're so fucking beautiful like this."

Jared's hand wrapped around him, thick fingers stroking, and Duncan's head fell back, a moan tearing out of him. "God, Jared. Your hands."

"Just my hands?" Jared pumped him slow, thumb swiping over the head, smearing the slick there. Duncan's hips bucked into the grip.

"I want more. I want you in me. I told you that."

Jared's laugh was dark and pleased. He pulled his hand away, ignoring Duncan's sound of protest, and unbuckled his own belt with quick, efficient movements. He shoved his jeans down just enough, and his cock sprang free, thick and heavy, flushed dark at the head. Duncan's mouth went dry.

"So big."

"You say that like it's a problem."

"Not a problem." Duncan reached down, wrapping his fingers around Jared's shaft, stroking him slow. "Just a challenge."

Jared shuddered, a breath hissing through his teeth. His hands found Duncan's hips and pulled him closer, grinding their cocks together, the heat of it electric in the cold air. Duncan moaned, the sensation overwhelming, and he leaned in to kiss Jared deep and dirty, tongue sliding against tongue.

"Turn around," Jared growled against his mouth. "Brace yourself on the bike."

Duncan's heart hammered. He slid off Jared's lap, his legs unsteady on the stone, and turned, planting his hands on the leather seat of the motorcycle. The bike shifted under his weight, the metal warm from the engine. He spread his legs, exposing himself, the cold air kissing his bare ass.

Behind him, Jared made a sound that was almost a snarl. "Look at you. Spread open for me like this, under the stars."

"Said I'd give you anything," Duncan managed. "Meant it."

Jared's hands landed on his ass, squeezing, then sliding inward, fingers trailing along the crease. Duncan gasped as Jared's thumb pressed against his hole, slick and teasing. He was already wet, omega slick coating his thighs, his body ready and aching for it.

"What do you want, omega?"

"Stop asking and put your cock in me. I've been a patient man all day."

Jared laughed, low and wrecked. Then he aligned himself, the thick head of his cock pressing against Duncan's entrance. Duncan braced, breath held, and Jared pushed.

The stretch was blinding, a burn that edged into pure pleasure as Jared sank deeper, inch by inch. Duncan cried out, fingers clenching on the bike seat, and Jared's hands gripped his hips, holding him steady.

"Taking me so well," Jared growled, his voice rough. "Knew you would. So fucking tight."

"Move," Duncan demanded, his voice cracking. "Jared, please, move."

Jared drew back and thrust forward, hard, burying himself to the hilt. Duncan saw stars, literal stars, his vision going white as the pleasure slammed through him. He cried out, a wordless sound that echoed off the canyon walls.

"That's it," Jared snarled. "Take all of me."

He fucked him hard, each stroke driving deep, the seat of the bike rocking with the force of it. Duncan clung to the handles, keening, letting Jared take what he needed. The cold air bit at his skin but all he could feel was the heat of Jared's body against his back, the thick cock pounding into him, the bond blazing in his chest.

"Look at me." Jared's hand gripped his jaw, turning his head. Their eyes met, amber meeting grey, and Jared's expression was raw, desperate, full of that feral love. "You're mine. Mine, Duncan."

"Yes," Duncan gasped. "Yours. Fuck, Jared, yours, only yours."

Jared's rhythm stuttered, his control breaking. He drove in deep and held, his body shuddering, and Duncan felt the knot start to swell, catching at his rim. The stretch was intense, the fullness so deep it made his head spin.

"Come inside me," Duncan begged. "Fill me, Jared. Claim me again."

Jared's growl was a roar, and he came, flooding him with heat, the knot locking them together. The sensation tipped Duncan over the edge, his own orgasm ripping through him, his cock spilling against the bike's warm tank. He cried out, the sound swallowed by the vast dark sky, and Jared held him through it, arms wrapping around him, the knot seated deep.

For a long time they stayed like that, connected, breathing hard in the cold night air. Jared pressed a kiss to the nape of Duncan's neck, right over the fresh mate bite.

"Still scared?" Duncan asked, voice ragged.

"Terrified," Jared admitted. "But in a different way. Now I'm scared of what you'll do to me if I ever step out of line."

Duncan huffed a laugh, exhausted and warm. "Good. You should be."
