Chapter 5: The Serpent's Gambit
The rain had turned to a thin, miserable drizzle by the time Logan reached the tower. He didn't take the elevator. He took the fire stairs, two at a time, his boots echoing off the concrete walls like a heartbeat. Thirty floors. He didn't stop once. Didn't slow down. The rage was a furnace in his chest, burning away every last trace of the poison, every last shred of reason.
He hit the penthouse door with his shoulder, and the lock shattered—wood splintering, metal groaning. The door swung open and slammed against the wall. And there she was.
Viper sat cross-legged on the black silk sheets of her bed, wearing nothing but a thin white robe that had fallen open at the thigh. A glass of wine rested in her hand, and she raised it to him in a mock toast.
"Now that's what I call a return visit."
Logan crossed the room in four strides. He grabbed her by the throat—the same grip as before, the same fury—and shoved her back against the headboard. The wine sloshed over her hand, staining the silk crimson.
"You sent me that picture."
"I did."
"Why?"
She smiled up at him, utterly unbothered. Her pulse beat steady beneath his fingers. "Because I knew you'd come back. And here you are."
"You're gonna delete it. Every copy. Every backup. Every goddamn trace."
"Or what?" She tilted her head. "You'll kill me? You've already tried that, sugar. Twice now. And yet here I am, and here you are, and we both know how this is going to end."
Logan's grip tightened. The headboard creaked. "You think you've got me figured out?"
"I think I've got you exactly where I want you," she said. And then she moved.
Her legs wrapped around his waist, locking at the ankles. Her hand left the wine glass, which tumbled to the floor and rolled away, and tangled in his hair. And before he could react, she pulled him down and kissed him.
It wasn't a gentle kiss. It was hungry, possessive, a claiming. Her forked tongue slid between his lips, tasting him, dancing with his. And along with it came the venom—a fresh wave, hot and electric, flooding his mouth and sliding down his throat.
Logan tried to pull back, but her legs held him fast, and her hand was firm in his hair, and his body—traitor that it was—surrendered. The venom hit his bloodstream like a shot of whiskey, burning and numbing all at once. His muscles unclenched. His vision swam. The rage flickered, sputtered, and dimmed.
When she finally broke the kiss, he was breathing hard, his arms trembling as they braced against the bed on either side of her.
"Shit," he muttered.
"Language," she purred. "And anyway, you knew the risks when you came back." She tugged at the hem of his shirt. "Now take this off."
He should have fought her. He should have broken her neck and dealt with the consequences. But the venom had wrapped around his brain like a fog, and all he could feel was the heat of her body beneath him, the slickness of her skin, the way her robe had fallen open to bare her breasts.
She pulled the shirt over his head and tossed it aside. Her hands roamed his chest, tracing the hard lines of muscle, the thick pelt of hair, the old scars that never quite faded. Her nails scratched lightly across his nipples, and he hissed.
"You're so tense," she murmured. "So wound up. You've been carrying this weight for so long, Logan. Let me take it from you."
"I don't need your—"
"You do." She pressed her palm flat against his chest, over his heart. "I can feel it. This poor, battered heart. Beating so hard, always fighting, always clawing. Don't you ever get tired?"
His jaw clenched. "I don't quit."
"No," she agreed. "You don't. That's what I love about you." She pushed against his chest, and he rolled off her, onto his back. She straddled him in a fluid motion, her thighs gripping his hips. "But even the strongest men need to surrender sometimes."
She leaned down, her hair falling around them like a curtain, and kissed him again—slower this time, softer. The venom was still there, but muted, a gentle hum rather than a scream. Her fingers worked the button of his jeans, the zipper, and she slid her hand inside his briefs.
He was already hard. She wrapped her fingers around him and pumped slowly, deliberately.
"Look at you," she breathed against his lips. "So ready. So eager. Like a puppy waiting for a treat."
"I'm not your—"
"Shh." She pressed a finger to his lips. "Don't ruin the moment, puppy."
He wanted to argue. He wanted to throw her off and storm out and never look back. But her hand was doing things to him—twisting, stroking, pulling—and his brain had short-circuited somewhere between the venom and the heat of her cunt grinding against his cock.
She lifted her hips and guided him to her entrance. He could feel her slickness, her warmth, the way she opened for him like a flower. And then she sank down.
The sound he made was obscene—a long, guttural groan that seemed to come from somewhere deep in his chest. She was so tight, so wet, so perfect, and she took him inch by inch until he was buried to the hilt.
"Fuck," he gasped.
"That's the idea," she said.
She began to move—slow, rolling, deliberate. Her hips circled, grinding him down, milking him. Her hands braced on his chest, her nails leaving little crescent moons in his skin. She rose and fell, rose and fell, each stroke sending a bolt of lightning up his spine.
"You feel that?" she whispered. "Feel how well we fit together? Like we were made for each other."
Logan gripped her hips, trying to regain some control, but she slapped his hands away. "No. I'm riding tonight. You just lie there and take it."
She picked up the pace, bouncing on him now, her breasts swaying with each impact. The robe had fallen off completely, and she was bare before him, pale and perfect, her scales shimmering like a galaxy across her collarbone and hips.
He watched her—the way her head fell back, the way her lips parted, the way her cunt clenched around him with every downward stroke. She was gorgeous, and he hated her, and he wanted her, and he couldn't tell where one feeling ended and the other began.
"You're mine," she said, her voice strained with pleasure. "Say it, puppy. Say you're mine."
"Never."
She slowed to a torturous grind, leaning down until her lips brushed his ear. "Say. You're. Mine."
He bit her shoulder, hard. She gasped, but not in pain—in pleasure. "Oh, you like that? You like biting me?" She ground down harder, her clit grinding against his pubic bone. "That's fine. I like it too. But you're still going to say it."
She sat up and began to ride him in earnest—fast, hard, relentless. Her thighs slapped against his hips, her wet heat coating his cock, and he was losing his mind, every nerve ending screaming with pleasure.
"Yes," she hissed, "that's it, that's it, come for me, puppy. Come inside me. Fill me up."
Logan's orgasm hit him like a freight train. He roared, arching off the bed, his hands flying to her hips as he emptied himself into her in long, pulsing waves. She rode him through it, milking him dry, her own body trembling with a climax that seemed to ripple through her like a wave.
When it was over, she collapsed onto his chest, breathing hard. He was still inside her, softening, but she made no move to dislodge him.
"You see?" she murmured, tracing a lazy pattern on his chest. "That wasn't so bad, was it?"
Logan didn't answer. He stared at the ceiling, his mind a fog of pleasure and venom and something dangerously close to contentment. He should leave. He should get up, get dressed, get out. But his body felt heavy, his limbs leaden, and all he wanted to do was sleep.
"Don't fight it," she whispered, as if reading his thoughts. "Just rest. I'll take care of everything."
He tried to move, but his limbs wouldn't obey. And as he drifted toward unconsciousness, he felt her lips on his again—soft, gentle—and the faint sting of fangs.
"Sleep well, my puppy," she murmured. "I'll be here when you wake."
The last thing he saw before the darkness claimed him was her smile. Beautiful. Poisonous. And utterly triumphant.
The room went dark.
Then the door opened and closed. He was alone.
