Chapter 7: The Serpent's Gambit
The bathroom door clicked shut, and the sound of water hissing against marble filled the penthouse. Logan lay there, staring at the ceiling, his chest heaving, his body a battlefield of warring impulses. The new venom coiled through him like a living thing, warm and treacherous, whispering seductions into the base of his skull. His cock still glistened with her. The scent of her was everywhere—on his skin, on the sheets, in the air itself, thick and cloying like a funeral wreath.
He tried to move. His arm twitched, lifted an inch off the mattress, then fell back with a dull thud. The poison had settled deep into his motor cortex, turning his commands to static. He could feel his healing factor working beneath the surface, a dim, furious engine trying to burn through the contamination, but every time it made progress, the foreign substance regrouped, adapted, pressed back down.
Think, he told himself. Think, you dumb son of a bitch.
He had walked into this. Hell, he had driven into this, his truck rumbling through the rain-slicked streets of Manhattan, his gut telling him it was a trap, his pride telling him he didn't care. He'd wanted to see her again. That was the ugly truth of it. After she'd left him in that warehouse—paralyzed, humiliated, burning—he'd spent three days nursing his fury and his wounded ego, telling himself he was going to find her and make her pay. But somewhere beneath the rage, there was something else. Something that had stirred when her lips met his. Something that had been waiting for this.
The water stopped. A moment later, the door opened, and Viper emerged in a cloud of steam, her skin flushed pink, her hair wet and slicked back, the scales along her collarbone catching the dim light like a warning. She wore nothing. Not even the robe. She let him look, and he did, helpless to do otherwise.
"There you are," she said, padding toward the bed. "I was starting to think you'd drifted off."
"Fuck you."
She smiled, slow and indulgent. "So charming. Even now."
She climbed onto the bed, straddling his thighs, her knees pressing into the mattress on either side of his hips. Her skin was warm from the shower, and she smelled of jasmine and something else—something green and earthy, like crushed stems. She leaned forward, and her hair dripped onto his chest, cold droplets tracing paths through the matted hair.
"I've been thinking," she said, trailing a finger down his sternum, "about what to do with you."
"Let me go."
"Where would you even go?" She laughed, soft and dark. "You're naked. You're poisoned. You're in a penthouse twenty floors up with no way out and no one who knows you're here." She leaned down, her lips brushing his ear. "You're mine, Logan."
The words hit him somewhere primal. His cock twitched, betraying him, hardening against her thigh. She felt it and smiled against his skin.
"See? Even your body knows."
She sat up, positioning herself over him, and the sight of her—wet hair, wet skin, lips parted, cunt glistening—was enough to make him ache. She reached down and gripped him, guiding him to her entrance, and the first touch of her heat made him shudder.
"I'm going to ride you," she said, "until you can't think. Until the only thing in your head is me. And then I'm going to ask you a question, and you're going to answer it honestly." She pushed down, just the head, and he gasped. "Do you understand?"
"Go to hell."
She sank lower, taking him inch by inch, her walls parting around him like they were made for him. "That's not the answer I'm looking for."
She bottomed out, seated fully on him, and the feel of her—tight, wet, impossibly warm—made his eyes roll back. She began to move, slow and agonizing, rising until only the tip remained inside her, then sinking back down with a wet, obscene sound.
"Fuck," he breathed.
"Yeah," she whispered. "That's the idea."
She rode him with cruel precision, her hips rolling in figure-eights, grinding her clit against his pelvis with every stroke. Her hands braced on his chest, her nails leaving shallow crescents in his skin that healed and healed and never quite caught up. She watched him the whole time, her green eyes half-lidded, her forked tongue flicking out to wet her lips.
"You feel that?" she asked, clenching around him. "That's me. In your head, in your blood, in your cock. You'll never be free of me."
"Bitch."
She laughed and picked up the pace, her thighs slapping against his hips. "Such a mouth. I'm going to have to do something about that."
She leaned down, and her lips met his. Her tongue slid between his teeth, forked and clever, dripping fresh venom onto his tongue. The effect was instantaneous—his vision swam, his thoughts scattered, and his hips bucked involuntarily, driving himself deeper into her. She moaned against his mouth, a sound of pure satisfaction.
"That's it," she breathed. "Let go."
He couldn't stop himself. His orgasm rose from somewhere deep, somewhere helpless, and he came inside her with a roar that tore his throat raw. His release flooded her, hot and thick, and she rode him through it, her own hips grinding, her walls milking him dry.
But she didn't stop.
She kept riding him, slow and deliberate, even as he cried out, even as his oversensitive flesh begged for mercy.
"One more," she whispered. "Give me one more."
"I can't—"
"You can." She clenched around him, impossibly tight, and somehow, impossibly, he hardened inside her again. She smiled, triumphant. "There he is."
She rode him harder, faster, driving him toward a second peak he'd thought impossible. His hands found her hips, gripping her bruised, but he had no strength to push her away—only to hold on. She leaned back, arching her spine, and he watched her breasts rise and fall, watched the scales shimmer along her ribs, watched her face twist with pleasure as she chased her own release.
"Come with me," she commanded. "Now."
He obeyed.
The second orgasm hit him like a blade, white-hot and devastating. He came inside her again, his body convulsing, his vision going black at the edges. She followed a moment later, her cunt spasming around him, her head thrown back, a raw, animal cry tearing from her throat.
She collapsed onto his chest, breathing hard, her hair plastered to his skin. For a long moment, they lay there in silence, the rain starting up again against the windows.
"Now," she said eventually, her voice soft, almost tender. "My question."
Logan's chest heaved. He couldn't look at her.
"Do you want to live?"
He closed his eyes. The word stuck in his throat, tasting like ash. But his body betrayed him, his cock still buried inside her, his blood still burning with her venom.
"Yes," he said.
She lifted her head, and that smile—that cruel, beautiful smile—spread across her lips.
"Good boy."
She reached over to the nightstand, where a second syringe waited, filled with clear liquid. She pressed it to his neck with a tenderness that made his skin crawl.
"This will slow the poison," she said. "Not stop it. But it will keep you alive long enough to prove yourself useful."
She depressed the plunger. The liquid hit his bloodstream like ice, and the burning in his veins receded to a dull, distant ache. His muscles slowly unlocked, and he could move again—but the effort left him shaking, empty.
Viper slid off him and padded toward the bathroom, pausing at the door. "You rest," she said. "Tomorrow, we have work to do."
"Work?"
She looked back over her shoulder, and her eyes gleamed in the dim light.
"You're going to help me take down the people who made you. The ones who put the adamantium in your bones." Her smile widened. "And you're going to do it willingly, because the antidote to what's in your veins isn't something I can give you. It's something you'll have to earn."
She disappeared through the door, and Logan was left alone, naked and trembling, the taste of her still on his tongue and the weight of her words settling over him like a shroud.
He stared at the ceiling, and for the first time in his life, he felt something he couldn't name. A crack in his armor. A door left open.
And somewhere in the darkness, he heard her voice again, soft and mocking:
You're mine now, Logan. Body and soul.
