Chapter 6: The First Dose
The damp patch inside his jeans had cooled to an icy clamminess against his thigh. Each step towards his childhood home felt like wading through tar. The phantom silk of the bustier still brushed against his oversensitized skin beneath his hoodie, a cruel counterpoint to the gritty reality of the sidewalk. He clutched his backpack tighter to his chest, the pressure a grounding counterpoint to the persistent, deep ache radiating from his swollen breasts. Heavier every day. The forum words echoed, merging with his mother’s haunting coo: My pretty girl.
He turned onto Maple Street. The familiar silhouette of the white picket fence, the old oak tree with its skeletal branches scraping the twilight sky, the warm glow leaking from the downstairs windows – it should have been comforting. Instead, a fresh wave of nausea churned in his stomach, thick with the aftertaste of library shame and the impossible sweetness of gardenias.
He paused at the gate, leaning against the cold wood. His breath fogged in the chill air. He needed a moment. Needed the world to stop tilting. He squeezed his eyes shut, pressing the heels of his palms against them, trying to banish the image of the library cubicle, the feel of his own frantic touch, the phantom lace…
Instead, another sensation bloomed. Not silk. Chalky. Dry. Sticking to the roof of his mouth. A child’s mouth.
Sunlight, impossibly bright and golden, streamed through the kitchen window. It caught the dust motes dancing above the worn linoleum floor. He was small. So small. The countertops loomed like cliffs. He’d dragged the heavy, wobbly step-stool across the floor, its legs scraping loudly, to reach the forbidden treasure trove: the high shelf above the microwave where Mommy kept her special magic vitamins. They were in a big, clear plastic bottle with a white cap, the pills inside large, smooth ovals, the color of pale, creamy flesh. He’d seen her take them every morning with her orange juice. They looked like candy. Big, yummy candies.
He fumbled with the child-proof cap, tiny fingers slick with determination. Click. Triumph! The smell hit him first – a strange, medicinal sweetness, like flowers mixed with chemicals. He plunged his hand in, the plastic pills cool against his skin. He grabbed one. It felt substantial, powdery almost. He popped it into his mouth before he could think twice.
Dry. So dry. It stuck instantly to his tongue, coating it in a bitter-chalk paste. He gagged, eyes watering. Panic flared. He needed water, now, but the sink was too high. He tried to swallow, the pill scraping down his throat like a lump of sand. Tears pricked his eyes. It tasted awful. Not candy. Bad medicine.
Footsteps. Soft, familiar. Mommy.
He whirled around, guilt plastered on his small face, the empty feeling in his mouth replaced by a tight knot of fear. She stood in the doorway, sunlight haloing her hair. Her eyes, warm brown like his, widened slightly as they took in the open bottle, his tear-streaked face.
"Joshua? Sweet pea? What have you got there?" Her voice was calm, curious, not angry. Yet.
He pointed a trembling finger at the bottle, unable to speak, the bitter residue making him cough.
She walked over, plucked the bottle from the counter, her expression unreadable for a terrifying second. Then, it melted into something soft. Amused? "Oh, my silly little explorer," she chuckled, a low, warm sound. She crouched down to his level, her floral scent enveloping him – gardenias and dust. "Did you find Mommy's special vitamins?" Her finger gently wiped a tear from his cheek. "Did you eat one?"
He nodded miserably, another cough wracking his small frame.
"Don't fret, sweetie," she murmured, pulling him into a hug. Her hand rubbed soothing circles on his back. "It won't hurt you. It's just for… for making Mommy feel pretty." She pulled back slightly, her gaze drifting down, not to his face, but to his chest. Her eyes seemed to sharpen, focusing intently beneath the thin cotton of his dinosaur pajama top. "Hmm," she hummed, a thoughtful, almost pleased sound. "Maybe… maybe it'll make my little boy feel pretty too."
He didn't understand. He just felt weird. Tingly. And Mommy was looking at him funny.
The tingling didn't stop. Over the next few days, a strange tightness developed across his small chest, right where the dinosaur’s stegosaurus plates were printed. His pajama top felt suddenly restrictive, the fabric rubbing strangely against two small, sensitive points. He kept fidgeting, pulling at the neckline. Mommy noticed.
"Feeling a bit snug, sweet pea?" she asked one morning, her voice light as she smoothed his hair. "Let Mama see." Before he could protest, her cool fingers were slipping beneath the pajama top, skimming over his smooth skin. They lingered, tracing the slight, unfamiliar swell beneath each nipple. A gasp escaped him – not pain, but a shocking jolt of sensation. Her touch felt… different. Intentional.
"Mmm," she murmured, her thumb brushing deliberately over one tender peak. "Just like I thought. My special vitamin is working its magic on my little sissy boy." The term landed oddly. Not mean, but… possessive. Defining. "Look at that." She gently pinched the small, soft mound of flesh. He whimpered, a confusing mix of discomfort and something else he couldn't name. "Just budding. Fattening up nicely."
She guided him to stand before the full-length mirror in her bedroom. The reflection showed a small, bewildered boy in dinosaur pajamas. But Mommy’s hands were on his chest again, framing the subtle swell beneath the thin fabric. "See? My pretty little sissy," she whispered into his ear, her breath warm. "Your little titties are coming in. Aren't they sweet?" She squeezed gently. The pressure sent another jolt through him, a prelude to the deeper ache he would know years later. "So soft. So delicate. Just wait, darling. They'll grow. Get big and round and beautiful. Just like Mama’s." Her hands slid down, tracing the outline of the new heaviness pressing against the pajama top. "My good boy. My special, growing girl-boy." She kissed the top of his head. "Let's get you measured."
He stood frozen, bare-chested and shivering slightly, as Mommy fetched her sewing tape measure. The cold plastic pressed against his skin, circling the new fullness on his chest. He watched her face in the mirror – the focus, the quiet satisfaction as she noted the measurement in a little notebook he hadn’t seen before. Then, she did something that sent a fresh wave of wrongness through him: she pulled out her phone. "Smile for Mama, sweetie," she cooed, holding it up. "Gotta capture my little sissy’s progress." The flash blinded him, freezing his small, confused face and the undeniable, nascent curves on his childish chest in a digital eternity.
A car backfired down the street, snapping Josh back to the present with a violent flinch. He gasped, staggering against the gatepost. The phantom chalkiness coated his throat. The ghostly pressure of his mother’s measuring tape constricted his ribs. The click of the camera phone echoed in his skull. My little sissy boy.
The ache in his chest wasn't just deep; it felt foundational now. Ancient. Rooted not just in recent weeks, but sunk deep into the bedrock of his childhood, watered by his mother’s approval and a chalky, stolen pill. He looked down at the heavy swell pressing against his hoodie, hidden but undeniably there. Not an anomaly. An inevitable fruition. The toddler’s tight pajamas, the teenager’s gaping bustier, the man’s straining hoodie – all points on the same horrific, predetermined curve.
He pushed open the gate. The walk to the front door felt shorter this time. His legs moved automatically. The hum inside him wasn't just Seraphina's track anymore; it was layered with his mother's voice, her delighted coos, the rustle of her silk robe as she examined him. The dampness in his jeans was forgotten, replaced by the burning memory of her clinical touch.
He raised a trembling hand to the doorbell, the movement making his chest sway gently beneath the fabric. The deep, resonant thrum vibrated within the soft, heavy tissue. Waiting. Growing. He closed his eyes for a second, and behind his lids, he saw a small, bewildered boy in dinosaur pajamas, staring back at him from the mirror, framed by his mother’s possessive hands. He pressed the button. The chime echoed inside the warm, fragrant house. My special, growing girl-boy. The phrase echoed, not with horror now, but with a terrifying, bone-deep sense of homecoming.
