Chapter 22: Proving Shot
The Base's Cafeteria was a bustling hive of activity, the clatter of cutlery and the hum of conversation filling the air. The scent of freshly brewed coffee mingled with the aroma of roasted meats and vegetables, creating an atmosphere that was both comforting and invigorating. Lyra sat at a table with Maria and Laura, their trays laden with steaming plates of food.
As they dug in, Maria's eyes widened slightly, her gaze flicking to Lyra's midriff. "Lyra, what happened to your belly?" she asked, concern etched on her face.
Lyra looked down, realizing that her combat gear left little to the imagination. The bruises from Aldere's punches were visible, an ugly mottling of purple and green against her pale skin. She sighed, pushing her food around on her plate. "It's just training," she said, trying to downplay the incident.
"Nothing to worry about." Maria and Laura exchanged a glance, their expressions a mix of concern and disbelief. "Lyra, you're bruised," Laura said gently, her voice barely above a whisper. "That's not just training." Lyra sighed, running a hand through her short ashen hair. "It's part of the job," she said, her voice firm. "I have to be able to handle myself in any situation." Maria reached across the table, her hand covering Lyra's. "We know you're tough," she said, her voice soft. "But this... this is different." Lyra looked down at their hands, her fingers intertwining with Maria's.
She took a deep breath, trying to steady herself. "It's not just about being tough," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "It's about proving myself. To them. To everyone." Maria's eyes softened, and she squeezed Lyra's hand gently. "I know," she said. "But you don't have to prove anything to us." Lyra looked up, her eyes meeting Maria's. "It's just... classified training," she said, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside her. "Nothing I can talk about." Maria's brow furrowed slightly, but she nodded understandingly. "I see," she said, her voice soft. "Well, just be careful, okay? We don't want you getting hurt." Laura chimed in, "Yeah, Lyra. You're our friend, and we want you safe." Lyra forced a small smile, trying to hide the pain in her stomach. "I will," she promised. "I'm just trying to be the best I can be." Lyra's voice was steady, but there was a hint of vulnerability in her eyes as she looked at Maria and Laura. They exchanged a glance, their expressions softening as they realized how much this meant to Lyra.
After they finished their meal, Laura and Maria returned to their station, their trays laden with empty plates and cutlery. Lyra watched them go, a sense of longing washing over her. She knew that they were just doing their jobs, but she couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy at their camaraderie.
The sun was high in the sky, casting a warm glow over the sprawling complex. Lyra took a deep breath, the cool air filling her lungs as she started to make her way towards the firing range. She could feel the remnants of ache in her stomach, a constant reminder of the training she had endured yesterday day. But she pushed through the pain, her determination unwavering.
She arrived at the firing range, the familiar scent of gunpowder and oil greeting her. Behind the counter sat Grantt, the attendant, his eyes glued to a worn-out magazine. He looked up as she approached, a grin spreading across his weathered face. "Ashen, good to see you again," he said, his voice gruff yet warm. "Booth 7's all set up for you." Lyra returned his smile, her eyes flicking to the booth number. "Thanks, Mr. Grantt," she replied, her voice steady despite the ache in her stomach. She made her way towards booth 7, the sound of gunshots echoing around her as other cadets practiced their aim. As she stepped into the booth, she couldn't shake off the curiosity that had been gnawing at her since yesterday's training session with Aldere. She wondered if his unconventional methods were actually designed to improve her accuracy or if it was just a perverse way for him to get his hands on her. She pushed the thought aside, focusing on the task at hand. She loaded the AE 50 Dragon, the familiar weight of the pistol in her hands grounding her.
She focused on the target, her breath steady and controlled as she lined up the shot. The first bullet hit the target with a satisfying thud, the paper fluttering slightly before settling back into place. She fired again, and again, each shot hitting its mark with precision. Eight bullets in total, six of which found their mark. She couldn't help but feel a surge of pride at her accuracy.
But as she lowered the pistol, her thoughts drifted back to Aldere and the intense training session they had shared. She couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to his methods than just improving her skills.
She loaded up another magazine, and the result was quite consistent - between 5 to 6 hits from 8 bullets. She let out a sigh of relief, her shoulders slumping slightly as she lowered the pistol. She had proven herself, at least in this aspect. But as she looked down at the target, she couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. There was something about Aldere's training methods that made her feel uneasy, a feeling that she couldn't quite put her finger on.
As she stepped out of the booth, Grantt looked up from his magazine, a grin spreading across his face. "Impressive, Ashen," he said, his voice gruff yet warm. "You're improving every time I see you." Lyra managed a small smile, her mind still preoccupied with thoughts of Aldere. "Thanks, Mr. Grantt," she replied, her voice distant.
"I think I'm finally getting the hang of this." She stepped out of the firing range, her boots clicking against the polished floor as she made her way back to the Wolfpack Barracks. As she walked, she couldn't help but feel a sense of fulfillment. Her accuracy with the AE 50 Dragon had improved significantly, and she knew that she was one step closer to becoming the resourceful part of The Wolfpack Team.
Lyra's determination was unwavering, and she was committed to honing her skills, even if it meant spending every morning and evening at the firing range.
The sun had risen when Lyra found herself back at the firing range, the cool morning air nipping at her heels. Grantt, the attendant, was already there, his eyes glued to a worn-out magazine as he sat behind the counter. "Ashen, you're here early," he said, his voice gruff yet warm. "Thanks, Mr. Grantt," she replied, her voice steady despite the chill in the air. She made her way towards booth 7, the sound of gunshots echoing around her as other cadets began to trickle in.
Her focus on aiming with her pistol was unwavering, her mind a blank slate save for the target before her.
The first bullet hit the bullseye with a satisfying thud, the paper fluttering slightly before settling back into place. Eight bullets in total, seven of which found their mark. A murmur of appreciation rippled through the nearby booths, but Lyra was oblivious, her attention solely on the target.
The bruises on her midriff had started to fade, now a dull yellowish-green, barely noticeable under her combat gear. Yet, the exposed skin of her stomach drew the eye, especially when combined with her focused intensity and the way she handled her pistol. Fellow soldiers began to take notice, their gazes flicking between her midriff and the target, impressed by her accuracy.
Lyra, however, was unaware of the attention she was drawing. Her world was narrowed down to the pistol in her hand and the target before her. She loaded another magazine, her fingers moving with practiced ease.
As she fired another round, the recoil of the AE 50 Dragon pistol caused her D cup breasts to jiggle slightly, drawing even more attention. The other soldiers began to whistle and catcall as she finished her session, their eyes lingering on her midriff and breasts.
As she walked out of the firing range, the whistles and catcalls grew louder, a mix of admiration and lust in their voices. Lyra tried to ignore them, her focus on the task at hand. But as she stepped out into the bright sunlight, she couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. She knew that she was drawing attention to herself, and she wasn't sure how she felt about it.
She had always been focused on her training, on becoming the best soldier she could be. She had never really thought about how she looked, or how others saw her. But now, with the catcalls and whistles still ringing in her ears, she couldn't help but feel a sense of self-consciousness.
As she walked back towards the Wolfpack Barracks, she could feel the weight of their gazes on her, heavy and intrusive. She tried to shake it off, to focus on the familiar rhythm of her boots against the ground, but it was difficult. She couldn't help but wonder what they were thinking, what they were saying about her.
She reached the barracks, the familiar sight of the stone building a welcome relief. She pushed open the heavy wooden door, the hinges creaking slightly as she stepped inside. The cool air inside was a stark contrast to the warmth of the sun outside, and she took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.
As she walked deeper into the barracks, she could hear the muffled sounds of voices coming from the makeshift bar at the far end of the room. The Wolfpack Barracks was always a hive of activity, especially after a long day of training. She could hear the clinking of glasses and the low hum of conversation, punctuated by the occasional burst of laughter. She made her way towards the bar, her boots clicking against the polished floor.
As she approached, she could see Captain James, Aldere, and Thomas holding their beers as they sat on the sofa and stools, their laughter echoing through the room. But as she drew closer, she saw Officer Rashford on the bar counter, his arm in a sling, a wide grin on his face. Lyra's eyes widened in relief and joy, "Officer Rashford! You're back!" she exclaimed, a sense of thankfulness washing over her.
"Well, well, well," Rashford replied, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Look who's all excited to see me. Bunny, isn't it?" His voice was warm, a hint of teasing in his tone. Lyra felt a blush creep up her cheeks.
"Officer Rashford," she acknowledged, her voice steady despite the flush on her cheeks. "I'm glad you're back.
I was worried," Lyra said, stepping closer to Rashford and giving him a small embrace. He returned her hug with a pat on her head, his voice warm and grateful. "Thank you for looking for me back at the clinic, Bunny. I appreciate it."
Rashford's eyes twinkled with amusement as he looked at her, his grin widening. "You know, I've always said you have a heart of gold under that tough exterior." Lyra felt a blush creep up her cheeks at his words, but she didn't pull away from his touch. Instead, she looked up at him, her eyes searching his face for any sign of discomfort.
"I'm just glad you're okay," she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. "I was worried about you." Rashford's smile softened, and he gave her a gentle squeeze before releasing her. "I'm fine, Bunny.
Just a flesh wound," Rashford said, waving his good arm dismissively. "But enough about me, how have you been? You've been training hard, I hear." Lyra nodded, her eyes flicking to the remain of bruises on her midriff. "Yeah, it's been... intense," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I want to be a valuable member for The Wolfpack," she said, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside her. "I want to prove myself." Lyra's voice was steady, her gaze fixed on Rashford.
"I've been pushing myself harder every day." Rashford's grin widened, his eyes twinkling with pride. "That's my girl," he said, just as Officer Aldere approached, a smirk on his face.
"Rashford, I see you've met our little sharpshooter," he said, his eyes flicking to Lyra. "She's got quite the aim, thanks to my teachings." Lyra felt a blush creep up her cheeks at Aldere's words, her heart pounding in her chest.
She knew that Aldere's training methods were unconventional, but she couldn't deny that they had helped her improve her accuracy." I-I'm thankful for your teaching, Officer Aldere," Lyra stammered, her cheeks flushing pink. She couldn't meet his gaze, instead focusing on the empty beer bottle in front of him.
Aldere's eyes flicked down to her midriff, and he chuckled, a low, suggestive sound. "I see you've been putting my methods to good use, Ashen," he said, his smirk growing wider. "Or should I say, putting yourself to good use?"
Rashford burst into laughter, his good arm slapping his thigh. "Damn, Aldere, you're a fucking riot," he said, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "I've never seen anyone turn a training session into a fucking porno before." Their laughter echoing through the room. Lyra felt her face flush with heat, her heart pounding in her chest. She gave a nervous laugh, her eyes darting between Aldere and Rashford, unsure of how to react.
Her heart was pounding in her chest, and she could feel the heat rising in her cheeks. She tried to brush off Aldere's comment with a wave of her hand, but it only seemed to make him laugh harder.
"Come on, Bunny," Rashford said, clapping her on the back. "You're not going to let a little joke get to you, are you?" Lyra forced a smile, but it felt strained. "No, of course not," she said, trying to sound more confident than she felt.
Thomas, who had been watching the exchange with a smirk, stepped forward. "Bunny, you look like you could use a drink," he said, his voice smooth and easy. "Join us for a beer?" Lyra hesitated, looking at the bottle of water she had grabbed from the fridge. "Sorry Officer Thomas, I don't drink alcohol," she said, her voice steady despite the nervousness she felt. "But thank you for the offer." Thomas chuckled, his eyes twinkling with amusement. "Well, in that case, how about a soda?" he suggested, his voice warm and inviting. Lyra nodded, a small smile playing on her lips.
"Sure, Officer Thomas," she said, her voice steady despite the nervousness she felt. She turned away from the group, her eyes scanning the room as she made her way towards the fridge. She reached in and grabbed a bottle of soda, the cool liquid feeling refreshing against her warm hands.
As she turned around, she saw Captain James sitting on the sofa at the makeshift bar, patting his lap invitingly. Lyra hesitated for a moment before walking over to him.
She took a deep breath, trying to calm her nerves as she sat down on his lap. She could feel his strong arms wrap around her waist, pulling her closer to him. His left hand started to wrap around her exposed midriff, his fingers tracing the fading bruises from Aldere's training session.
Captain James' breath was hot against her ear as he leaned in closer. "You're looking well today, Bunny," he murmured, his voice low and husky. Lyra felt a shiver run down her spine at his touch, her heart pounding in her chest. She tried to focus on his words, but all she could think about was the heat of his hand on her skin.
She looked up at him, her eyes meeting his intense gaze. "Thank you, Captain," she managed to say, her voice barely above a whisper.
Captain James' hand on her midriff was distracting, but she tried to focus on the conversation. He raised his beer, his voice booming as he called out, "To Rashford! Back in action and better than ever!" The Wolfpack members cheered in response, their voices echoing through the room.
Lyra felt a flush of embarrassment at the attention, but she tried to push it aside. She took a sip of her soda, the cool liquid refreshing against her warm cheeks.
As the night wore on, the alcohol flowed freely, and the atmosphere grew more relaxed. Lyra felt herself starting to unwind, her earlier embarrassment forgotten. She laughed and joked with the others, feeling a sense of camaraderie that she hadn't experienced before.
At some point, Captain James' hand on her midriff began to wander, his fingers tracing circles on her skin.
Lyra felt a shiver of anticipation run through her, her heart pounding in her chest. She could see the desire burning in his eyes, and it sent a jolt of electricity through her.
But she knew that she couldn't do anything about it. It was part of her role as the barracks' bunny, to be available and willing for the officers' pleasure.
The conversations between the Wolfpack Team continued, as Captain James' hand began to wander, grazing her belly, Lyra felt a sudden surge of unease. She rested her left hand on top of his, gently but firmly, preventing it from moving further.
His hands removed from her hand, and he gripped her left wrist, his fingers tightening around it. His eyes met hers, a silent challenge passing between them. She held his gaze, unyielding, her heart pounding in her chest. The room seemed to grow quiet around them, the other conversations fading into the background.
Captain James' grip on her wrist tightened, his eyes never leaving hers. "You're playing with fire, Bunny," he growled, his voice low and dangerous.
Lyra met his gaze steadily, her heart pounding in her chest.
She knew that she was playing a dangerous game, but she couldn't help herself. She was tired of being just a toy for their amusement. She tried to pull her wrist away from his grip, but his fingers tightened around it, his eyes never leaving hers. She stopped struggling, taken aback by the intensity of his gaze. It reminded her of her role as the barracks' bunny, and she felt a wave of unease wash over her. She had always known that this was part of her job, but she had never felt so powerless before. Lyra felt a shiver run down her spine at his words, her heart pounding in her chest. She knew that she was walking a fine line, but she couldn't back down now.
She had to assert her boundaries, no matter how much it might upset the delicate balance of their dynamic.
Lyra met his gaze steadily, her heart pounding in her chest as she tried to pull her wrist away from his grip.
Captain James' fingers tightened around it, his eyes never leaving hers.
Captain James looked around the room, his eyes scanning the faces of his team. "Alright, Wolfpack," he said, his voice booming through the room. "It's been a long day. Let's get some sleep." The room fell silent for a moment before the members began to file out of the room, their footsteps echoing through the emptying space.
Lyra watched as the last of the Wolfpack members left the room, her heart pounding in her chest.
She had hoped that Captain James would let go of her wrist, but his grip only tightened as he forced her to follow him towards his partition room.
With his hand still gripping her wrist, he pushed open the door to his room and pulled her inside. The door clicked shut behind them, leaving them alone in the dimly lit space. Lyra could feel her heart racing as she looked around the room, her eyes taking in the familiar surroundings.
His grip on her wrist was firm, his fingers digging into her skin as he pulled her towards the bed. She stumbled slightly, caught off guard by his sudden movement. "Captain James, what are you doing?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper. He didn't answer, instead he threw her onto the bed, her body bouncing slightly on the mattress.
She gasped, shock coursing through her as he climbed onto the bed, straddling her hips. His hands went to her combat gear, his fingers deftly unbuckling and unzipping, exposing more of her skin with each passing second.
