Chapter 7: The Extended Session
The click of the lock was still echoing in my bones. Ben’s expression hadn’t changed, still that placid, professional mask, but his eyes were a storm. He’d heard me. He’d heard every ragged, shameful admission.
“The homework,” he said, his voice a low vibration in the quiet room. He didn’t move from the door.
“I did it.” The words were a whisper. I cleared my throat. “Every night.”
“And?”
“And I… I thought of your hands. Your voice. What it might feel like if you…” I trailed off, my cheeks burning. I couldn’t say it.
He pushed off from the door and walked towards me, not with a prowl, but with a slow, inevitable certainty. The air between us thickened. He stopped close enough that I could smell the clean, herbal scent of his soap, see the faint stubble along his jaw.
“If I what, Ella?”
“If you weren’t my therapist,” I blurted, the coward’s answer.
A faint, knowing smile touched his lips. It wasn’t cruel. It was unbearably intimate. “But I am,” he said softly. “And your lumbar tension is significantly improved. Your posture is better. The work is working.” His hand came up, not to touch my face, but to gently adjust the collar of my blouse, his fingers brushing the sensitive skin of my neck. A purely clinical gesture that felt like a brand. “The mind-body connection is powerful. Stress lives in the tissue. Release it, and everything… eases.”
His thumb stroked a slow arc over my pounding pulse. I swayed on my feet.
“You’re still holding onto something, though,” he murmured. “A different kind of tension. It’s in your breath. In the way you hold your shoulders right now, even as I touch you.” His hazel eyes searched mine. “You need to let go.”
“I don’t know how,” I admitted, the confession torn from me.
“Then stop thinking,” he said, his voice dropping to a whisper that seeped into my marrow. “Just feel. Today, we work on surrender.”
He took my hand. His grip was warm, firm, utterly sure. He led me to the treatment table, the vinyl cool through my thin leggings as I sat on its edge. He stood before me, caging me gently between his knees.
“The mind first,” he said, his hands coming to rest on my shoulders. His thumbs pressed into the knotted muscles at the base of my neck, and a groan escaped me. “See? Holding. Always holding.” He worked the tension with a focused pressure, his fingers speaking a language my body understood perfectly. My head lolled forward.
“James calls tonight?” Ben asked, his tone conversational, even as his hands wrought devastating relief.
“Mmhm. Seven.”
“And what will you tell him?”
“That my session was… productive.”
Ben’s hands slid down, kneading the trapezius muscles along my spine. “And will it be?”
His hands moved lower, skimming the sides of my breasts through my shirt. I jerked, a bolt of pure sensation shooting through me. He stilled.
“Easy,” he soothed. “I’m just assessing the pectoral engagement. It’s connected to everything.” His touch resumed, a fraction less clinical, lingering at the outer curves. I was painfully aware of the straining fabric, the lack of a proper bra. My breath hitched.
“You’re very responsive, Ella.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be.” His voice was like dark honey. “It’s useful information. It tells me where you carry your wanting.”
His hands left me, and the loss was a physical ache. “Lie back,” he instructed.
I did, settling onto the table, staring at the acoustic tiles of the ceiling. He dimmed the lights, leaving only the grey afternoon glow from the window. I heard the soft whisper of the sanitizer pump, the rub of his hands. Then his touch was back, starting at my ankles, working up my calves with a firm, practiced rhythm.
It was agony. It was bliss. Every stroke felt deliberate, charged with an intention that went beyond physical therapy. He spent an eternity on my thighs, his palms gliding up the inseam, his thumbs pressing deep into the quads, so close to where I burned for him. I bit my lip to keep silent.
“Relax your jaw,” he said without looking up. He was watching his hands on my body. “The tension travels.”
He moved to stand beside my hip. “Turn onto your side, facing away from me. Fetal position.”
I complied, curling up, feeling exposed and vulnerable. His hand settled on the crest of my hip, warm and heavy. His other hand began working the glute muscle, a deep, uncompromising pressure that made me gasp.
“This is a key stabilizer,” he said, his voice close to my ear. His fingers dug in, finding a trigger point that sent a shocking jolt of pleasure-pain straight to my core. I cried out.
“There it is,” he murmured, almost to himself. He held the pressure, a relentless, glorious ache, until the muscle finally released in a warm flood. My whole body went liquid. His hand slid, just an inch, his fingertips grazing the forbidden seam of me through the fabric.
I stopped breathing.
He didn’t move. The air crackled. I could feel the hard line of him, the evidence of his own tension, pressed against my backside.
“Tell me what you want, Ella.” His breath was warm against my neck. “Use the words.”
I shook my head, a feeble denial muffled by the vinyl.
His fingers pressed down, not on muscle, but on pure, sensitized flesh. A broken sound escaped me.
“You did the homework. You imagined. Now tell me the truth of it.” His voice was a rough whisper, all pretense of therapy gone. “What did you imagine my hands doing?”
I was trembling. The word was a thready exhalation. “This.”
“And my voice?”
“Telling me I was a good girl for wanting it.”
His breath caught. His hips pressed forward, a slow, deliberate roll. “And what else? What did you imagine… here?” His hand slid around, palm flat against my lower belly, pulling me back against the solid, undeniable ridge of him.
The last thread of my resistance snapped.
“You,” I whispered, the truth finally raw and unfiltered. “I imagined you. Not a therapist. Just a man. I imagined you turning me over and taking me right here, on this table, because you knew I needed it more than I needed to be good.”
A deep, guttural sound rumbled in his chest. For a long moment, he was utterly still, a statue of coiled restraint. Then his hand moved from my belly, his fingers hooking into the waistband of my leggings and underwear.
“Then stop imagining,” he said.
And in one smooth, decisive motion, he pulled them down.
