Chapter 2: The Haze

She was still in the restroom, still wearing her uniform, but everything around her was different. The once a neglected but restroom was now rotten and old, just like the reflection had shown. The tiles were chipped and moldy, the paint peeling off the walls in great, crumbling chunks. The mirror was still cracked and cloudy, but now it showed her reflection as it was before—naked and terrified.

"Fuck," she whispered, her voice echoing in the small, decaying room. "What the hell is going on?" She looked down at herself, her hands shaking as she checked that she was still dressed.

Her uniform was still there, her shirt still tied up above her navel, her skirt still covering her thighs. She let out a shaky breath, relief flooding through her as she realized that whatever had just happened, it hadn't changed anything on the outside. She took out her phone, her fingers fumbling as she tried to turn it on. It flickered to life, the screen glowing in the dim light of the restroom. 8:30 PM. She let out a curse, her heart pounding in her chest. She had to get home, had to explain where she'd been before her parents started asking questions. She dialed their number, her fingers shaking as she held the phone to her ear. But there was no dial tone, no ringtone, no sign of life at all. Just static, a low hiss that seemed to mock her. "Fuck," she spat, her voice echoing in the small room. "No service?

What the fuck?" Breilla's voice echoed through the decaying restroom as she stared at her phone in disbelief. She tried again, but the result was the same—a low hiss of static that mocked her attempts to reach out to the world beyond this forsaken place. She let out a frustrated growl, her fingers tightening around the phone as she tried to will it to work. But it was no use. She was trapped here, trapped in this rotting shell of a restroom, with no way to call for help.

She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself as she looked around the room. The decay was even more pronounced now that she was paying attention to it—the tiles were crumbling, the paint was peeling off the walls in great chunks, and the air was thick with the scent of mold and decay. It was like something out of a horror movie, a place that was meant to be abandoned, forgotten.

She stood up, her heart pounding in her chest like a drum, and walked towards the exit. She reached the door knob again, but this time it turned easily under her touch. The door creaked open slowly, revealing a dark surrounding of her school. She hesitated for a moment, her breath catching in her throat as she looked out into the darkness. But she knew she had to keep going, had to find a way out of this place.

She stepped out to the pitch next to the restroom, the door clicking shut behind her with a finality that sent a shiver down her spine. The air was cold and damp, the scent of decay and old wood hanging heavy in the air. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself as she looked around.

The world outside the restroom was shrouded in a thick, oppressive haze, so deep that it seemed to swallow everything beyond the school's fence. The usually vibrant campus was now a ghostly landscape, the buildings and trees reduced to eerie, spectral shapes looming out of the mist. Even the sky above was a dull, gray void, as if the very air was choked with the haze.

Breilla's heart pounded in her chest as she took in the eerie sight. She had to get out of here, had to find a way back to the real world. She took a deep breath, her resolve hardening, and started to make her way towards the school gate.

As she walked, she noticed something strange. The school, which was usually bustling with life even at this hour, was completely silent. No laughter echoed from the open windows, no music blared from the distant playground. It was as if the very soul of the place had been sucked out, leaving behind an empty shell.

She quickened her pace, her heels clicking on the concrete path as she made her way towards the gate.

But as she approached, she realized that something was wrong. The gate, which was usually open at this time, was locked tight, the heavy chain and padlock glinting ominously in the dim light. She grabbed the bars, her fingers wrapping around the cold metal as she shook them, trying to force them open. But they didn't budge. She was trapped.

"Fuck!" she spat, her voice echoing in the empty courtyard. "What the fuck is going on?" She looked around, her eyes scanning the hazy landscape for any sign of life. But there was nothing, just the eerie silence and the oppressive haze.

She let out a frustrated growl, her fingers tightening around the bars as she shook them again. "Fucking open, you piece of shit!" she screamed, her voice echoing through the empty courtyard.

"Fucking open!" She shook the gate again, her frustration boiling over. The gate remained firmly shut, mocking her attempts to escape.

Breilla let out a growl of frustration, her hands balling into fists at her sides. She couldn't just stand here, trapped in this fucking ghost town of a school. She had to do something, had to find a way out.

She took a deep breath, her mind racing as she tried to think of a plan. Then it hit her. The fence. It was tall, but it was her only way out. She had to climb it.

She had to get over that fucking fence and get the hell out of here. She looked up at the tall, iron bars, her heart pounding in her chest as she took in their height. It was going to be a bitch to climb, but she had no choice. She couldn't just stand here and wait to be rescued. She had to take matters into her own hands.

She reached up, her fingers wrapping around the cold, rusted metal as she began to climb. The fence was slick with moisture, the bars slippery under her touch. She gritted her teeth, her muscles straining as she pulled herself up, inch by inch.

Her heart pounded in her chest, her breath coming in short, sharp gasps as she climbed higher and higher. She could feel the cold, rusted metal digging into her fingers, the rough texture scraping against her skin. She looked up, her eyes scanning the seemingly endless fence that loomed above her. It was like climbing a fucking mountain, she thought, her frustration growing with each passing moment.

But as she looked down, she realized that something was wrong. She had climbed what felt like several meters, her arms aching from the effort, but the ground below her seemed no further away than when she had started. She was still just a few feet off the ground, the concrete path mocking her with its proximity.

"What the fuck?" she gasped, her voice echoing in the empty courtyard.

"What the fuck is happening? Why can't I get any higher?" She looked around, her eyes scanning the hazy landscape for any sign of help.

She let out a frustrated growl, her hands balling into fists at her sides. The school building. If she could find the key to the gate, she could unlock it and escape. She looked back at the school building, its once vibrant facade now shrouded in the thick haze. It was a long shot, but it was worth a try.

She jumped back down to the ground, her heels clicking on the concrete path as she turned back towards the school building. She could feel her heart pounding in her chest, her breath coming in short, sharp gasps as she hurried towards the main entrance.

The school was dark, none of the lights were on, and the eerie silence was only broken by the distant drip of water somewhere in the building. She pushed open the heavy door, the hinges creaking loudly in protest, and stepped inside.

The hallway was bathed in shadows, the only light coming from the dim glow of the emergency exit signs at the end of the corridor. She could see the faint outline of the teacher's room door up ahead, but as she approached, she could see that it was locked. she hissed, her voice echoing through the empty hallway. She tried the handle again, shaking it violently, but it didn't budge. "Come on, you piece of shit!" she growled, banging her fist against the door.

The door remained steadfastly shut, its wooden surface unyielding under her assault. She let out a frustrated sigh, her shoulders slumping as she realized that this wasn't going to be as easy as she had hoped.

She turned away from the locked door, her mind racing as she tried to think of another way out. Then it hit her—the school keeper's room. It was always locked tight, but she knew that they kept a spare key hidden somewhere inside. She had to find it.

The key to the gate, hidden somewhere in this forsaken school. She couldn't just stand here and wait for something to happen. She had to take control, had to find a way out of this nightmare. She turned away from the locked door, her mind racing as she tried to remember where she had seen keys before.

She walked down the dimly lit hallway, her heels clicking against the worn linoleum floor. The air was thick with dust and the scent of old books and forgotten dreams. She passed by classrooms filled with empty desks and chalkboards covered in faded equations and half-erased words. The silence was oppressive, the only sound the distant drip of water echoing through the empty halls.

She turned left at the end of the hallway, her steps quickening as she approached the school keeper's room. She tried the handle, but it was no use.

The door was locked tight, just like she had expected. She let out a frustrated growl, her fingers tightening around the cold metal of the doorknob as she tried to force it open. But it didn't budge. she spat, her voice echoing in the empty hallway. "What the fuck am I supposed to do now?" She looked around, her eyes scanning the dimly lit corridor for any sign of help. But there was nothing, just the eerie silence and the oppressive haze that seemed to choke the very air out of the place.

She let out a frustrated sigh, her shoulders slumping as she began to walk back down the hallway. She was about to give up, to resign herself to spending the night in this godforsaken place, when something caught her eye. A blackboard, inside one of the classrooms, with words scrawled across it in chalk. She quickened her pace, her heels clicking against the linoleum floor as she approached the door. But it was locked tight, just like all the others. She rattled the handle, a futile gesture, before turning to the window.

The glass was grimy, the words on the board barely visible through the grime. But she could make out enough to send a chill down her spine.

"Shouldst thou linger but a single day, in thy realm, where shadows play, lo, here on Earth, the sands shall spill, fifty years against thy will." What the fuck did that mean? She pressed her face against the glass, trying to make out more of the words, but they were too faded, too smudged by time and dust.

She stepped back, her heart pounding in her chest as she looked out at the dark, empty schoolyard. But the gate was locked, the fence was impossible to climb, and now this—a fucking riddle scrawled on a blackboard. She ran her fingers through her hair, her mind racing as she tried to make sense of it all. "Fucking hell," she muttered, her breath fogging up the window as she looked out at the hazy night.

She walked back across the pitch, her heels clicking on the cold concrete, the only sound in the oppressive silence. The restroom was the only room that had been open so far, and it was worth another try. Maybe she had missed something, maybe there was a way out that she hadn't seen before.

The school's windows stared back at her like blank, unblinking eyes, their darkness somehow more unsettling than comforting. She shivered, hugging her arms around herself as she turned away from the eerie sight.

The restroom door was still ajar, its familiar stench wafting out into the cold night air. She hesitated for a moment before stepping back inside, the door creaking shut behind her with a finality that sent a shiver down her spine. The restroom was dark, the only light coming from the dim glow of the moonshine outside. She fumbled for the light switch, her fingers brushing against the cold, damp wall as she tried to find it. Nothing. She let out a frustrated growl, her eyes scanning the darkness for any sign of help. But there was nothing, just the oppressive silence and the thick haze that seemed to choke the very air out of the place.

She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself as she looked around the decaying restroom. The tiles were crumbling, the paint peeling off the walls in great chunks, and the air was thick with the scent of mold and decay.

She let out a frustrated sigh, her shoulders slumping as she realized that she was trapped here, trapped in this rotting shell of a restroom.

Desperate, she decided to sleep it off. Maybe this nightmare could be over if she just closed her eyes and waited for morning. She found a corner of the restroom that was relatively clean and sat down, her back against the cold wall.
