Chapter 3: Purgatory

Breilla's eyes fluttered open, her vision swimming as she tried to focus on her surroundings. The dim light of the moon cast eerie shadows across the crumbling tiles of the restroom floor. She blinked, her head pounding like a drum in her temples. She was naked, her body exposed to the cold air of the night. She shivered, her nipples hardening as goosebumps erupted across her skin.

She sat up, her hands reaching out to steady herself on the cold, damp floor. Her eyes darted around the room, taking in the decaying state of the restroom. The tiles were chipped and worn, the paint peeling off the walls in great chunks.

She gasped, her voice echoing in the empty restroom. "Why am I naked?" She looked down at herself, her hands shaking as she took in the sight of her bare body. "What happened to my clothes?" She scrambled to her feet, her heart pounding in her chest as she looked around the room for any sign of her uniform.

But it was nowhere to be found. She was completely naked, her body exposed to the cold air of the restroom.

She turned to face the mirror, her eyes narrowing as she took in the sight of her reflection. Her blonde hair was a mess, her makeup smudged and smeared across her face. But it was the words written on the mirror that caught her attention. They were written in blood, the letters thick and heavy, the words themselves a chilling message.

"Where countless souls found woe and strife, this place consumed their fleeting life. Yet here thou'lt stay, thy youth preserved, in ceaseless pain, thy fate reserved." Breilla stared at the words, her reflection staring back at her, eyes wide with confusion. she muttered, running a hand through her tangled hair. She had never taken this school too seriously, always brushing off its quirks as just that—quirks. But this? This was something else entirely. She turned away from the mirror, her heart pounding in her chest as she tried to make sense of it all. "This is bullshit," she muttered, her voice echoing in the empty restroom. "I didn't sign up for this." She paced back and forth, her bare feet slapping against the cold, damp floor. She had to find a way out of here, had to find a way back to the real world. But how? She looked around the restroom, her eyes scanning the decaying walls for any sign of help.

Then, something caught her eye. A brown tied bikini bottom hanging on the stall's door, a pair of cowgirl shoes placed neatly below the sinks. She blinked, her eyes widening in disbelief as she took in the sight. she whispered, her voice echoing in the empty restroom. She walked over to the stall, her bare feet slapping against the cold, damp floor. She reached out, her fingers wrapping around the bikini bottom as she pulled it off the door. It was small, barely covering her ass cheeks, and it was definitely not hers. She looked down at it, her brow furrowing in confusion. "Where did this come from?" she muttered, her voice barely above a whisper. She looked around again, her eyes scanning the restroom for any sign of who it might belong to.

Then, she noticed something else. A pair of cowgirl shoes placed neatly below the sinks. She picked them up, examining them closely. They were dusty, but otherwise in good condition. And to her surprise, they fit perfectly. she muttered, her voice echoing in the empty restroom. "How did these get here? And why do they fit me so perfectly?" She shook her head, trying to make sense of it all. This was getting weirder by the minute. But at least she had something to wear now. She slipped on the shoes, the leather creaking slightly as she stood up straight. They were a little tight, but they would do. She looked at herself in the mirror, her reflection staring back at her with a mixture of confusion and determination. She was still naked from the waist up, but at least she wasn't completely exposed anymore.

She turned to the other toilet stalls, her eyes scanning the grimy surfaces for anything else that might be useful. The restroom was a mess, the stalls barely standing, the walls stained with God knows what. She wrinkled her nose in disgust as she pushed open the first stall door. Nothing but a broken toilet seat and a pile of old newspapers. She moved on to the next one, her heart pounding in her chest as she pushed open the door.

And there it was. A blue micro-bikini top, lying on the toilet bowl like a forgotten trophy. She stared at it for a moment, her stomach churning at the sight. It was dirty, the fabric stained and worn, and it looked like it had been there for years. But she didn't have a choice. She needed something to cover herself up, and this was it.

She picked it up, her fingers pinching the fabric as she held it at arm's length.

"Ew, gross," she muttered, wrinkling her nose. She was about to drop it back onto the toilet when something caught her eye. A pair of cowgirl gloves, tucked away in the corner of the cabinet. She reached in, grabbing them and pulling them out. "Well, at least these look clean," she said, slipping them on. They fit perfectly, the leather soft and worn from use. "Alright, Breilla," she said to herself, "Let's get this show on the road." She slipped on the bikini top, grimacing at the feel of the dirty fabric against her skin. But it was better than nothing. She took a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever was to come. She had no idea what was waiting for her outside that restroom door, but she was determined to find out.

She took one last look at herself in the mirror, her reflection staring back at her in a blue mini bikini top that barely covered her breasts, paired with a brown tied bikini bottom, cowgirl gloves, and boots.

"Well, I look like a pornstar with a budget cosplay of a cowgirl," she muttered sarcastically, rolling her eyes at her reflection. "Just what I need to navigate this fucked-up school." She took a deep breath, steeling herself for whatever lay ahead.

The restroom door creaked open, revealing a dimly lit hallway that stretched out before her like a dark tunnel. She hesitated for a moment, her heart pounding in her chest as she considered her options. She could either turn back and try to find another way out of this godforsaken place or press on and see what lay ahead. She took a deep breath, her mind made up. "Fuck it," she muttered under her breath, stepping out the restroom.

The moon cast a silvery glow over the pitch, illuminating the crumbling school buildings that loomed like ghosts in the night. The riddles were starting to sink in now, their weight pressing down on her like a physical force. She stood there for a moment, her heart pounding in her chest as she tried to make sense of it all. The words on the mirror had been chilling enough, but now they seemed to echo through the empty school, their meaning growing clearer with each passing moment. The school was a labyrinth of shadows and secrets, and she was determined to find her way out of it. She started walking, her cowgirl boots clicking against the worn concrete as she made her way across the pitch. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and decaying leaves, and she could hear the distant drip of water echoing through the empty halls.

She walked down the hallway, her cowgirl boots clicking against the worn linoleum floor. The school had always been old, but now it felt ancient, the walls closing in around her like a tomb. She passed by closed doors, their wooden surfaces peeling and cracked, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something was watching her from behind them.

She turned a corner, and that's when she saw it. A sign hanging crookedly on the wall, the words "Treatment Rooms" scrawled in faded letters. She hesitated for a moment, her heart pounding in her chest. This wasn't right. This wasn't the school she knew. She took a deep breath and pushed open the door.

The room was dimly lit, the air thick with the scent of antiseptic and something else, something sweet and cloying. She wrinkled her nose, her eyes scanning the room.

The walls were lined with old cabinets and rusty medical equipment, and in the center of the room was a large, metal table. It was covered in stains and scratches, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something terrible had happened here.

She took a step forward, her cowgirl boots echoing in the silence.

The room was cold, the air heavy with the scent of something metallic and tangy. That's when she saw it - a large, leather-bound book sitting on a table in the corner. She walked over to it, her heart pounding in her chest. The book was old, its cover worn and faded, but the title was still legible: "Case Studies in the Treatment of the Mentally Unsound." She shivered, a chill running down her spine. What kind of doctor's office was this? @Doctor's Office

Breilla's heart pounded in her chest as she stepped further into the room, her cowgirl boots clicking against the cold, hard floor. The air was thick with an unsettling mix of antiseptic and something else—something sweet and cloying that made her stomach churn. She scanned the room, taking in the old cabinets and rusty medical equipment that lined the walls. In the center of the room was a large, metal table, its surface marred by stains and scratches that seemed to whisper tales of a darker past. She hesitated for a moment before turning her attention to the shelves that lined one wall.

Her eyes scanned the dusty tomes, searching for anything that might help her understand this strange place. Then, she found it - a thick, leather-bound book tucked away in the corner. She reached out, her gloved fingers wrapping around the spine as she pulled it out. The title was embossed in gold lettering: "A Dictionary of Victorian Language." She raised an eyebrow, a smirk playing on her lips. "Well, this should be useful," she muttered, flipping open the cover.

As she began to browse through the pages, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. She glanced over her shoulder, her heart pounding in her chest as she scanned the empty room. Nothing moved, nothing made a sound. She turned back to the book, her mind racing as she tried to make sense of it all.

"Shouldst thou linger but a single day, in thy realm, where shadows play, lo, here on earth, the sands shall spill, fifty years against thy will," she whispered, repeating the riddle to herself. It was chilling, the words sending a shiver down her spine. She knew she had to remember it, had to figure out what it meant. She flipped through the dictionary, her fingers tracing the yellowed pages as she searched for any clue that might help her understand.

As she scanned the pages, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being watched. She glanced over her shoulder again, her heart pounding in her chest as she scanned the empty room. Still nothing. She turned back to the book, her brow furrowing in concentration as she tried to focus on the task at hand.

"Shouldst" - "Shouldst" was an archaic form of "should," meaning "ought to" or "must." She nodded to herself, making a note of it.

"Thou" - "Thou" was an old-fashioned way of saying "you." It was used in formal or polite contexts.

"Thy" - "Thy" was an archaic possessive form of "your," used to indicate possession or ownership.

She nodded again, making another note.

"Linger" - "Linger" meant to stay or remain in one place for a long time. It was often used to describe someone who was slow or hesitant to move on.

"Single day" - "Single day" was straightforward enough, referring to one day.

"Realm" - "Realm" was an old-fashioned term for a domain or sphere of influence. It could also refer to a kingdom or empire.

"Shadows play" - "Shadows play" was a poetic way of saying that shadows were moving or dancing around. It could also imply that something was happening in the shadows.

"Sands shall spill" - "Sands shall spill" was a metaphorical phrase that could mean that time would run out or that something would be lost or destroyed.

She looked up from the book, her eyes scanning the room once more. The air was thick with the scent of something metallic and tangy, and she couldn't shake the feeling that something was watching her from the shadows.

She turned around, her heart pounding in her chest as she stared into the gloom.

"Hello?" she called out, her voice barely above a whisper. The room remained silent, the only sound the distant drip of water echoing through the pipes. She took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. She had to get out of here, had to find a way back to the real world. She turned back to the book, her gloved fingers tracing the yellowed pages as she tried to make sense of the riddle.

After an hour of looking at the dictionary, she tried to build the word "Should you linger but a single day, in your realm the shadows play, lo, here on earth, the sands shall spill, fifty years against your will." She stumbled over the archaic language, her brow furrowed in concentration as she pieced together the meaning of the words.

'Should you linger but a single day, in your realm the shadows play, lo, here on earth, the sands shall spill, fifty years against your will.' She whispered the riddle to herself, her heart pounding in her chest. 'Fifty years...' she muttered, her mind racing. 'That's... that's impossible.' 'I can't spend fifty years here. I won't.' 'I'll find a way out of here, and when I do, I'll make every second count.

I won't let this place consume me like it did... whoever wrote this.' Breilla muttered, her eyes scanning the room for any clue that might help her solve the second riddle. Her gaze fell upon a large, ornate mirror hanging on the wall opposite the table. The frame was tarnished, and the glass was clouded with age, but there, scrawled in blood-red letters, was the next riddle.

' 'Where countless souls found woe and strife, this place consumed their fleeting life. Yet here thou'lt stay, thy youth preserved, in ceaseless pain, thy fate reserved.'' she read aloud, her voice echoing in the empty room. She stepped closer to the mirror, her reflection staring back at her with a mixture of determination and fear. ' 'Woe and strife...' Breilla muttered, her eyes narrowing as she tried to decipher the meaning behind the cryptic words. 'This place consumed their fleeting life...' she whispered, her heart pounding in her chest. 'What does that mean?' She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing thoughts. She needed to focus, needed to find a way out of this godforsaken place.

She took a deep breath, her eyes scanning the riddle once more. 'Yet here thou'lt stay, thy youth preserved...' She muttered, her heart pounding in her chest. 'This place... it's not just a school. It's a... a purgatory.' She whispered, the realization dawning on her like a cold shower. 'This place was a purgatory for thousands of men, now it's my purgatory. And I won't age a second here.' She muttered, her eyes widening in horror. 'Fuck.' She muttered, her heart pounding in her chest. 'I have to find a way out of here. I have to.' She turned away from the mirror, her mind racing as she tried to think of a plan. She couldn't stay here, not in this place, not in this... purgatory. She had to find a way out, had to find a way back to the real world.

She couldn't let this place consume her like it had consumed thousands of men before her. She had to escape before another 50 years passed and she was trapped here forever.

As she returned the dictionary to the shelf, she suddenly heard a sound from the hallway. She froze, her heart pounding in her chest as she listened intently. It sounded like footsteps, slow and deliberate, echoing through the empty halls. "Is anyone there?" But there was no reply, only the distant drip of water echoing through the pipes.

Then, she heard it again - the sound of footsteps, slow and deliberate, growing louder with each passing second. she called out, her voice echoing in the silence. She rushed to the hallway, her cowgirl boots clicking against the worn linoleum floor. "Hello? Is someone there?" she asked again, her voice barely above a whisper. The footsteps stopped for a moment, then started up again, louder and faster this time. "Who's there?" she demanded, her voice shaking with fear and anger.

The footsteps paused for a moment, then resumed their steady rhythm, growing louder and more insistent as they echoed down the hallway. She couldn't just stand here and wait for whatever was making those footsteps to find her. She had to take control of the situation. She started walking, her cowgirl boots clicking against the worn linoleum floor as she followed the sound of the footsteps. The hallway was dark and narrow, the walls closing in around her like a tomb. She could see shadows moving in the corners of her eyes, but she refused to let fear paralyze her. She had to keep moving, had to find out what was making those footsteps.

She quickened her pace, her cowgirl boots echoing down the dark hallway. The footsteps seemed to be coming from everywhere and nowhere at once, their rhythm matching hers as if they were taunting her. She turned a corner, her heart pounding in her chest, only to find another long, empty hallway stretching out before her. The footsteps stopped abruptly, leaving only the distant drip of water echoing through the pipes. She hesitated for a moment, her breath coming in ragged gasps as she listened for any sign of movement. Nothing. She took a deep breath and started walking again, her boots clicking against the worn floor. She had to keep moving, had to find out what was going on. She turned another corner, and that's when she saw it - a dead end. The hallway came to an abrupt stop, the walls closing in around her like a cage.

She skidded to a halt, her heart pounding in her chest as she realized she was trapped. Suddenly, she felt a strong force pushing her from behind, pinning her against the wall with a grunt. "What the fuck?" she gasped, struggling against the unseen force. "Let me go!" she demanded, her voice echoing in the narrow hallway. But the force only pushed harder, pressing her into the cold, hard wall. She could feel the rough texture of the bricks digging into her back, the breath being squeezed out of her lungs. "Stop it!" she cried out, her voice shaking with fear and anger. "Whoever you are, let me go!"
