Chapter 19: The Hypno-Spray
The air in Chad’s bedroom hung thick. Cheap cologne. Sweat. The sweet, cloying undertone of the hypno-mist still clinging to the sheets. Amy knelt between Chad’s spread legs, her head bobbing rhythmically. A wet, slurping sound filled the space between the bass thumping from downstairs. Her acrylic nails, candy-pink talons, dug into the meat of his thighs.
She pulled off with an obscene pop. A string of saliva connected her swollen lips to his glistening cock. "Ugh," she whined, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand. Her voice was nasal, high-pitched. Valley Girl dipped in venom. "Mark’s stupid sister Jenny is, like, here for the weekend. Crashin’ in his dorm." She rolled her eyes so hard her fake lashes fluttered against orange foundation. "She’s sooo boring. Just sits there reading. Like him." She spat the last word, her gaze flicking towards Chad’s face, seeking approval.
Chad hadn’t been listening closely. His eyes were half-lidded, focused on the ceiling. But the mention of Jenny – quiet, serious Jenny with her sharp eyes and Mark’s stubborn jaw – snapped his attention down. Amy flinched slightly under the sudden intensity. A slow, predatory grin spread across his face. "Jenny’s here?" His voice was a low purr. He traced the curve of Amy’s exposed cheek with a lazy finger. She preened, pushing her ass back, making the minuscule leather skirt ride up further.
"Yeah," Amy breathed, leaning forward to nuzzle his hip bone. "Total buzzkill. Ruining my vibe."
Chad’s grin widened. Cold amusement lit his eyes. He reached under his pillow. His fingers closed around the familiar, sleek cylinder of the hypno-pen. It looked like a high-end vape. Chrome. Innocuous. He held it up, turning it so the light caught the engraved Greek letters he’d added. "You know what would be fun?" he murmured, his gaze fixed on Amy’s eager, upturned face. He saw the instant recognition. The flicker of something dark and hungry in her eyes. It mirrored his own thrill. Corrupting the untouched. Spreading the stain.
Amy’s breath hitched. She knew the drill. Knew the sweet, heavy scent that meant surrender. Her tongue darted out, wetting her lips. "What?" she whispered, leaning closer. Her eyes fixed on the pen. A familiar craving tightened her belly.
"Take this." Chad pressed the cool metal into her palm. His thumb stroked the inside of her wrist. Possessive. "Find Jenny. Tonight. Get her alone. Somewhere quiet." He leaned down, his breath hot against her ear. "Hit her with it. Full dose. Then tell her..." He paused, savoring the words. "Tell her that craving male attention feels amazing. Tell her self-respect is useless. A burden. Tell her... being desired, being used... that’s where the real power is." He pulled back, studying her face. Seeing the spark ignite. The twisted eagerness to drag someone else down. "Make her understand. Just like you did."
Amy clutched the pen. Her knuckles whitened around the chrome. A shiver ran through her, part dread, part vicious excitement. She remembered the alley behind the library. Tyler’s grunt. The grimy brick against her palms. The ten-dollar bill on the pavement. Chad’s approval had felt warmer than Mark’s bewildered arms. This was power. Spreading the sickness. Making someone else crave the fall. "Yeah," she breathed, her voice suddenly lower, guttural. "Yeah, okay. I can do that." She pushed herself up, her movements fluid, hips swaying deliberately as she adjusted the pink skirt over her jiggling ass. "She’s probably in the library. Mark’s dragging her along everywhere like a lost puppy." She slipped the pen into the tiny pocket of her skirt. It barely fit. "Be right back, baby."
Chad watched her go, the door clicking shut behind her. He leaned back against the headboard, the satisfaction a cold stone in his chest. Amy, his perfect project, recruiting the next one. He closed his eyes, picturing serious Jenny. Those intelligent eyes glazing over. That quiet defiance crumbling into desperate need. The slow burn was getting hotter.
The library’s third floor was silent. Dust motes danced in the weak pools of light cast by ancient green-shaded lamps. Geology journals towered in oppressive shelves. Mark hunched over a thick textbook at their usual table, brow furrowed. Jenny sat across from him, her own book open, but her gaze was distant. She wore simple jeans and a faded band t-shirt, her brown hair pulled back in a practical ponytail. She looked uncomfortable. Out of place.
"Still can't believe she just vanished," Mark muttered, tapping his pen nervously on the page. "Said she was going to the restroom. That was an hour ago." He glanced towards the dark corridor leading to the stacks. His knuckles were white.
Jenny sighed, closing her book softly. "Mark, listen. About Amy... the things I saw last weekend? Outside that party? Guys just... handing her cash? Putting it in her clothes?" She leaned forward, her voice low and urgent. "That wasn't normal. It wasn't friendly. It was... transactional. Like she was–"
"Don't!" Mark cut her off sharply, flinching. He rubbed his temples. "Just... don't, Jen. You don't know her like I do. She gets... anxious. Misreads things. People joke around. Chad spreads rumors." He sounded desperate. Convincing himself. "She's loyal. She swears it."
Jenny opened her mouth to argue, then stopped. Her eyes flicked past Mark’s shoulder. Amy stood at the end of the aisle between the towering shelves. Click-click-click. The sound of her heels echoed unnaturally loud in the quiet. She wore the pink skirt, the white blouse tied high under her breasts. She smiled. Wide. Vacant.
"Heyyyy, guys!" Amy chirped, her voice slicing through the hushed atmosphere like broken glass. She sashayed towards them, hips swinging, her asscheeks wobbling visibly with each step under the tight leather. "Miss me?" She stopped beside Mark, draping an arm over his shoulders. Her candy-sweet perfume clashed violently with the smell of old paper and dust. She ignored Jenny’s wary stare, focusing solely on Mark. "Got caught up. Chad needed, like, a tiny favor." She giggled, a brittle sound.
Mark tensed under her touch but didn’t pull away. "What kind of favor?" he asked, his voice strained.
"Oh, you know Chad." Amy waved a dismissive pink-nailed hand. "Just stupid frat stuff. Borrowed my notes." Her gaze slid to Jenny. Lingered. "Hey, Jenny! How’s the nerd nest treating you?" Her tone was light, mocking.
"Fine," Jenny replied flatly. Her eyes narrowed slightly, taking in Amy’s dilated pupils, the unnatural flush on her cheeks.
"Boring," Amy declared. She leaned down, pressing her chest against Mark’s back, whispering loudly enough for Jenny to hear. "You guys should, like, totally take a break. Jenny looks like she needs some air." She straightened, turning her dazzling, empty smile back to Jenny. "C’mon, Jenny-poo. Let’s hit the ladies’. Freshen up. Girl talk!" She winked, an exaggerated flutter of lashes.
Jenny hesitated. She glanced at Mark, who looked relieved at the prospect of a temporary distraction. "Go on, Jen. I’ll be here," he mumbled, already turning back to his book. Escape. Denial. Jenny sighed, pushing her chair back. "Fine. Five minutes."
Amy beamed, linking her arm through Jenny’s with surprising strength, pulling her towards the dark, narrow aisles of the geology stacks. "Awesome-sauce! It’ll be fun! Promise!" Her voice echoed strangely between the dusty shelves. The further they walked from the lit study area, the deeper the shadows became. The air grew colder. Damp. Amy steered them towards a dead-end corner, surrounded by towering shelves of obscure rock formations. It was a pocket of near darkness, lit only by a single, flickering emergency bulb.
"Okay," Jenny said, pulling her arm free. Her voice was tight with suspicion. "What’s this about, Amy? Really?"
Amy turned. Her smile didn’t waver, but her eyes were flat. Distant. Like painted glass. "Just wanted to chat. Privately." She took a step closer. Too close. The sickly-sweet perfume intensified. Jenny took an instinctive step back, her shoulders bumping against the cold metal shelf. "Mark worries too much," Amy murmured, her gaze fixed on Jenny’s face. "He doesn’t get it. How good it feels."
"Get what?" Jenny snapped, adrenaline prickling her skin. This was wrong. Amy felt... alien.
"This," Amy whispered. Her hand darted into her skirt pocket. Smooth. Fast. She pulled out the chrome cylinder. Jenny barely had time to register it – a sleek, unfamiliar shape – before Amy’s thumb slammed down on the hidden button.
Hssssssst.
A fine, pale mist jetted out, hitting Jenny square in the face. It smelled overwhelmingly sweet. Cloying. Like rotting flowers mixed with candy. Jenny gasped, inhaling reflexively. The vapor coated her lips, her nostrils, her tongue. It tasted like chemical sugar. Thick. Heavy.
Panic flared. "What the–?!" Jenny choked, trying to turn away, to cough it out. But Amy was faster. She clamped her other hand over Jenny’s mouth and nose, pinning her head back against the shelves. Jenny struggled, eyes wide with terror, muffled cries trapped against Amy’s palm. The mist seemed to cling, to seep into her skin, her lungs. A strange warmth spread instantly through her chest, her limbs. Heavy. Seductive.
"Shhh," Amy cooed, her voice strangely melodic now. Hypnotic. She leaned close, her breath mingling with the fading vapor. "Just breathe it in, Jenny-poo. Feels nice, right? Warm?" Her eyes glinted in the dim light. Cold. Triumphant. "So warm. So good."
Jenny’s struggles weakened. The panic receded, replaced by a sudden, overwhelming lethargy. The warmth spread, pooling low in her belly. A strange... looseness. Her muscles slackened. Her knees felt weak. The sharp edge of her fear blurred, softened. The dusty smell of the library faded, replaced entirely by the cloying sweetness. It filled her head. Clouded her thoughts. She blinked, her vision swimming slightly. Amy’s face seemed to shimmer.
Amy slowly lowered her hand from Jenny’s mouth. Jenny didn’t scream. She just stood there, swaying slightly, her eyes dazed, unfocused. Her breaths came shallow and quick. A faint, dreamy smile touched her lips. "Warm..." she murmured, her voice thick, slurred.
"Yeah," Amy whispered, her own voice dropping to a conspiratorial purr. She traced a pink nail down Jenny’s cheek. Jenny didn’t flinch. Her gaze followed the nail, mesmerized. "Really warm. And it gets better." Amy leaned in, her lips brushing Jenny’s ear. "Listen close, Jenny. Listen good." The command was velvet steel. "Craving attention... male attention... feels amazing. Soooo good. Better than anything." She paused, letting the words sink into the fog. "Self-respect? It’s useless. A burden. Heavy. Stupid." Another pause. Jenny’s breathing hitched. Her eyelids fluttered. "Being desired... being wanted... being used... that’s where the real power is. That feeling... when they look at you... when they need you... that’s everything. Right, Jenny?"
Jenny swayed. Her brow furrowed slightly, a distant echo of resistance. A faint whimper escaped her lips. "Heavy..." she mumbled.
Amy’s smile was razor-thin. "Yeah. Heavy. Dump it. Let it go." She pressed closer, her body radiating unnatural heat. "Power feels good, Jenny. Being needed feels incredible. Just... let go." She ran her hand down Jenny’s arm, a possessive stroke. "Feel it?"
A full-body shudder ran through Jenny. Her eyes, clearing slightly for a split second, met Amy’s. Confusion. Fear. Then it dissolved, washed away by another wave of that seductive, chemical warmth. The dreamy smile returned, wider this time. Slack. Her shoulders slumped, the defiant posture softening. "Feels... good?" she whispered, the question tentative, hopeful. Her hand lifted slightly, touching her own cheek as if feeling for something different.
"Yeah, baby," Amy breathed, her voice thick with cruel satisfaction. She tucked a strand of Jenny’s practical ponytail behind her ear, a mockery of tenderness. "So good. You’re gonna love it." She watched, fascinated, as Jenny’s gaze drifted past her, unfocused, a vacant sort of pleasure settling on her features. The transformation wasn’t complete, not yet. But the cracks were there. The foundation crumbling.
Outside the stacks, Mark turned a page in his textbook. The sound was loud in the silence. Telophase. Cytokinesis. The cell divides. He rubbed his eyes, a vague unease coiling in his gut. Where were they? He strained his ears, listening for the click-click-click of Amy’s return. He heard only the distant hum of the library ventilation. And, faintly, from deep within the geology stacks, a sound that might have been a low, breathy giggle. High-pitched. Unfamiliar. Almost... girlish. He shook his head. Probably just the pipes. He turned back to his book. Waiting. Believing.
The faint giggle dissolved into the library’s hum. Mark rubbed his temples, the textbook blurring. Telophase. Cytokinesis. Life dividing. He couldn’t shake the image of Amy vanishing down the dark aisle with Jenny. Her brittle voice. The unmissable sway of her barely-covered ass under that skirt.
Click-click-click.
The sharp clicks of Amy’s heels echoed unnaturally loud in the hushed geology stacks. Dust motes swirled in the weak beam of the flickering emergency bulb overhead. Jenny swayed slightly, blinking as if emerging from deep water, her fingers unconsciously touching the two loose pigtails Amy had swiftly twisted her practical ponytail into. The elastic bands dug in tight.
"See? Way cuter!" Amy chirped, stepping back to admire her handiwork. Her own glossy lips curved in satisfaction. She swiped a sticky pink gloss across Jenny’s mouth before she could react. "A little pop! Totally freshens you up." The cloying scent of artificial fruit clung to Jenny’s skin, mingling with the fading chemical sweetness of the mist.
Jenny’s eyes, usually sharp and observant, looked slightly unfocused. She touched her lips, felt the unfamiliar tackiness. "It feels... sticky," she murmured, a small frown creasing her brow. Why had she let Amy do this? The question fluttered weakly in her mind, then dissolved like smoke. Amy’s perfume, thick and floral, filled her nostrils again.
"Sticky is good!" Amy giggled, a high, brittle sound. She linked arms with Jenny, pulling her firmly back towards the light. "C’mon, Mark’s prob’ly dying of boredom." Jenny stumbled slightly, her legs feeling strangely heavy and light at the same time. The geology journals blurred into dark monoliths as they walked. The pressure of Amy’s arm felt possessive.
Mark looked up as they emerged into the pool of light around the study table. Relief warred with immediate confusion on his face. His gaze snagged on Jenny’s hair, the shine on her lips. "Jen? You okay?" He pushed his textbook aside. "You were gone ages."
"Totally fine!" Jenny answered, her voice a fraction higher than usual. She offered a tentative smile that didn't quite reach her still-dazed eyes. She smoothed her t-shirt, a gesture that felt oddly self-conscious. "Amy just... helped me freshen up. We had the best chat." The words tasted foreign. Chat? About what? A vague impression of Amy’s voice murmuring about attention, about power, surfaced and sank again.
"Yeah," Amy cut in, sliding into the seat beside Mark, her micro-skirt riding up deliberately. She patted the space next to her for Jenny. "Jenny-poo was feeling kinda blah. Needed a pick-me-up." She beamed at Jenny. "Right? We were talking about, like, nail polish colors and stuff. Super fun." She nudged Jenny’s knee under the table.
Jenny sat, the cold plastic chair jolting her slightly. "Yeah," she echoed, forcing another smile. "Nail polish. Fun." The words felt thick on her tongue. Why did she agree? She glanced at Amy's perfect pink talons, then down at her own short, unvarnished nails. A strange, hollow yearning pulsed briefly in her chest. She pushed it down, confused. "It was... nice."
Mark stared between them. The pigtails. The gloss. Jenny agreeing with Amy so readily. It felt wrong, jarring against the Jenny he knew – the one who rolled her eyes at Amy’s outfits and called Chad a walking STD. "You sure you're okay?" he pressed, leaning forward. "You look... different."
"Different good, right?" Amy interjected brightly, batting her lashes at him. Her hand landed possessively on his thigh. "She just needed to loosen up a little. Stop being so serious all the time." She turned her dazzling, empty smile back on Jenny. "Right, Jen? Being all uptight is, like, exhausting. Totally pointless." The phrase self-respect is useless echoed faintly in Jenny’s foggy mind.
Jenny blinked. "Uptight?" The word resonated oddly. A flicker of her old defiance sparked. "I’m not uptight." But the protest lacked its usual heat. It sounded petulant, even to her own ears. She touched a pigtail again. The tight pull on her scalp felt... anchoring? Confusing.
"See?" Amy pounced, triumphant. "Defensive! Classic uptight." She giggled, a sound like breaking glass. "Anyway, babe," she turned fully to Mark, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper Jenny could still hear, "Jenny’s gonna crash with me tonight. My dorm. Girls’ night! We need to, like, bond."
Mark’s brow furrowed deeper. "What? Jen, you were gonna stay with me. On the futon. Like always." Suspicion tightened his gut. Amy never volunteered for 'bonding'. Especially not with Jenny.
"It’s okay, Mark," Jenny heard herself say. The words came out softer, almost placating. "Amy’s right. It’ll be... fun?" The rising inflection betrayed her own uncertainty. Did she want to go with Amy? The thought of Amy’s cluttered, perfumed dorm felt suffocating. Yet, a peculiar pull, a sluggish undertow originating deep in her chemically softened core, urged her to agree. Bond. Girls talk. Attention. The words swam in her head.
Amy stood up, tugging Jenny with her. "It’s settled! We’re gonna paint our nails, watch trashy reality TV, eat junk..." She squeezed Jenny’s arm. "Way better than listening to Mark snore, right?" She winked, a grotesque parody of camaraderie. Jenny managed a weak smile. Her gaze drifted past Mark’s worried face, landing on nothing. The library air felt suddenly thick and hard to breathe.
"Jen," Mark started, standing up quickly, his chair scraping loudly. "You don’t have to–"
"It’s fine, Mark. Really," Jenny interrupted, her voice firmer now, yet somehow distant. She avoided his eyes, focusing instead on the chipped pink polish on Amy’s thumbnail. A strange compulsion settled over her, a need to smooth things over, to make Amy happy. "Just one night. Girls’ night. Sounds... nice." She forced the last word out. Nice. Like the gloss. Like the mist. Warm. Obliging.
Amy beamed, radiating false sunshine. "Perfect! Grab your bag, Jenny-poo. Let’s bounce." She practically dragged Jenny towards the aisle. Jenny went, her steps slower, less sure than Amy’s determined clicks. She didn’t look back at Mark, his confusion and dawning alarm a tangible pressure on her retreating back.
Mark watched them disappear into the shadows between the shelves, Amy’s tight skirt flashing, Jenny’s new pigtails bobbing with unnatural stiffness. Silence crashed down. He sank back into his chair, the textbook pages blurring. Telophase. Cytokinesis. The cell divides. Outside the library windows, campus lights glowed. Somewhere, muffled by stone and distance, he thought he heard a faint, high-pitched giggle. It sounded nothing like his sister. Distant. Unfamiliar. Plastic. He squeezed his eyes shut, the image of Jenny’s vacant smile imprinted on the dark.
