Chapter 20: Homecoming Shock
The key stuck.
Naruto jiggled it, the familiar brass resistance feeling like a personal insult after three months away. He pushed his shoulder against the weathered wood of the apartment door, a soft grunt escaping him. The grunt was new—a sound of effort his previously lean frame hadn’t needed. Finally, with a metallic scrape, the lock yielded.
The door swung inward, and the world stopped.
Sunlight from the large living room windows framed them, backlit and monumental. For a half-second, his brain refused to process the data. It wasn’t Ino and Sakura. It was two statues, two warrior-goddesses carved from living marble, standing in the wreckage of his familiar home.
Ino stood closest, one hand on her hip. She wore a simple, heather-grey tank top and soft cotton shorts. But the clothes were a lie. The fabric of the tank top strained across a terrain his memory didn’t possess. Her shoulders were not the elegant slopes he recalled; they were massive, rounded deltoids that flowed seamlessly into thick, corded trapezius muscles, making her neck seem a powerful column. The thin straps bit into this new geography, digging valleys into solid rock. Her arms, casually crossed, were sleeved in dense, defined muscle, the biceps forming full, hard apples even at rest, the triceps casting sharp shadows down her arms. Her waist was still small, but it was no longer a soft curve. It was a rigid taper, a dramatic narrow V that flared out to hips that were now not just wide, but thick with layered, powerful glutes that strained against the thin shorts. She was a paradox—a brutal, beautiful anatomy diagram come to life, her familiar blonde hair and blue eyes now belonging to a stranger.
Behind her, Sakura had frozen in the act of reaching for a book. She was wearing snug, black yoga pants and a simple sports bra. The yoga pants were a testament to transformation. They encased legs that were… enormous. Tree-trunk thighs, densely packed with striated quadriceps and hamstrings, tapered to surprisingly sculpted calves. Her hips and rear were a breathtaking architecture of sheer mass, each glute a distinct, powerful mound that pulled the fabric taut, creating shadows and contours that spoke of immense, latent strength. Her torso, revealed by the sports bra, was a map of defined abdominal muscles, a hard-packed six-cut ridge that sat above a core of iron. Her breasts, still full, now rested on a chest that was broad and squared, her pectorals defined shelves. Her pink hair was the same, her green eyes wide, but the woman they belonged to could have snapped the old Sakura in two.
Time restarted with a thunderous rush in his ears.
“Naruto!” Ino’s voice was the same—lilting, melodic—but it came from this monumental form. She moved.
It was not the fluid, hip-swaying walk he knew. It was a purposeful, grounded stride, each step communicating density and control. She closed the distance in three swift steps, and before he could breathe, her arms were around him.
The hug was not soft. It was an engulfment by a warm, living wall of muscle. His face pressed into the solid curve of her shoulder, which felt like pressed stone beneath its smooth skin. His arms, pinned at his sides, were crushed against the hard plates of her latissimus muscles, which flared from her spine like wings. He felt the formidable swell of her chest against his, unyielding. The familiar scent of her jasmine perfume was there, but it was now wrapped around the heat of intense physical exertion.
“You’re home,” she breathed into his hair, and her arms tightened. He could barely inhale.
Over her granite shoulder, he saw Sakura approach. Her movement was a rolling, powerful gait, the heavy musculature of her legs and rear shifting with potent grace. She didn’t say a word. Her eyes were shimmering with unshed tears as she reached them, her own arms—arms that now looked capable of benching a small car—wrapping around both him and Ino.
He was sandwiched.
The breath left him in a pained oomph. Sakura’s embrace was different from Ino’s—broader, more all-encompassing. Her chest was a solid, warm wall against his back, her impossibly thick arms lay over Ino’s, locking him in. He was held in a vice of palpable, awe-inspiring strength. His soft belly, rounded from months of neglect, pressed helplessly against Ino’s rigid, carved core. His hands, trapped, instinctively flexed, his fingers splaying against the landscape of their bodies. He felt the thick, hard ridge of Sakura’s quadriceps pressing against the backs of his legs. He felt the dense, spherical curve of Ino’s deltoid under his cheek.
He was hugging two landscapes of power, and he was a soft hill between mountains.
They held him for a long moment, a silent, squeezing testament to missing him. Then, as if on a signal, they released him, stepping back.
He staggered, his legs unsteady. The apartment air felt cold where their heat had been.
“You… you…” he stammered, his voice a broken thing. His blue eyes were wide, darting from one to the other, trying to reconcile memory with reality.
“We missed you, dobe,” Sakura said softly, but her voice wavered. She was watching his face, reading the shock, the confusion.
Ino’s confident smirk was there, but it was tighter, nervous. “Like the new decor?” she quipped, gesturing vaguely at herself, but the usual playful lilt was edged with tension.
Naruto’s mind was a white noise of sensation. The visual was one thing. The feel of them was another. His hands still tingled with the memory of their hardness. He looked down at his own body, at the way his t-shirt clung to a soft, undefined middle. He had come home feeling ashamed of his own gradual softening, only to find they had turned to steel.
“What… how?” was all he could manage.
Sakura wrapped her arms around herself, a self-conscious gesture that made her biceps bulge into startling, veined peaks. “We just… started training. It was something to do. While you were gone.”
“Training?” Naruto echoed, the word absurd. This wasn’t training. This was a metamorphosis. He took a step forward, his hand lifting almost unconsciously. He stopped, his fingers hovering inches from Ino’s arm. “Can I…?”
Ino’s gaze held his. A challenge.A vulnerability. She gave a single, sharp nod.
He touched her bicep. It was not give. It was a dense, unyielding firmness, like grasping a seasoned oak branch wrapped in warm silk. He curled his fingers slightly, applying pressure. The muscle did not indent; it resisted with a palpable solidity. A network of fine veins traced over the defined surface. He dragged his fingertips down to her forearm, feeling the separate, corded muscles there, like bundles of tempered cable.
He turned to Sakura, his movement slow, dreamlike. He reached out and placed a broad hand on her stomach, just above the waistband of her yoga pants. He expected softness. He found a corrugated landscape of abs, hard and distinct under her skin. He pressed. It was like pressing a brick wall that was mysteriously alive, radiating a gentle heat.
He looked up, his hand still on Sakura’s rigid abdomen, his other on Ino’s arm. His eyes were filled with a storm of emotion—awe, confusion, a deep, aching insecurity.
“You’re… you’re both so… hard,” he whispered, the word falling into the silent room.
Ino’s confident facade cracked. “Is it… too much?” The question was small, scared. The powerful florist, the unshakeable flirt, was gone. In her place was a woman terrified she had built herself into something unlovable.
Sakura said nothing, but her green eyes were locked on his, searching for disgust, for rejection.
Naruto’s throat worked. He looked from one to the other, his hands still on their impossible bodies. He thought of the video calls, the strategic angles, the talk of ‘feeling stronger.’ He thought of his own soft belly, his own feeling of inadequacy.
A strange, wet laugh bubbled out of him. He dropped his hands.
“I spent the whole flight home,” he said, his voice rough, “worrying you’d be disappointed. That I’d gotten… soft.” He grabbed a handful of his own t-shirt and belly fat, squeezing it. “I was scared you wouldn’t want… this.”
He looked at them, at their powerful, breathtaking forms. “And I come home to find you’ve both become… superhumans. Warriors.” He ran a hand through his hair, overwhelmed. “I don’t even know what to feel.”
The silence stretched, taut and fragile.
Then Sakura moved. She stepped forward, closing the distance he had created. She took his hand—his soft, detective’s hand—in both of hers. Her grip was overwhelming, a gentle cage of immense potential force.
“Feel this,” she said, her voice low and intense. She placed his palm flat against the center of her chest, over her sports bra. Beneath the fabric, he could feel the fierce, rapid drumbeat of her heart. “That’s the same. That never changed. That never will.”
On his other side, Ino took his remaining hand. She didn’t place it on her muscle. She laced her strong, powerful fingers through his, squeezing. “The packaging got an upgrade, stupid,” she said, but her eyes were glistening. “The contents are the same.”
Naruto stood between them, his hands held captive—one against the thunderous heartbeat of a titan, the other intertwined with the powerful grasp of a goddess. His own heart hammered against his ribs, a trapped, fluttering thing against the fortress of their presence. The sun painted them all in gold—the soft, rounded lines of his homecoming, and the hard, glorious edges of everything that had changed. The question, loud and unspoken, hung in the air between their three shared breaths:
What now?
The question, loud and unspoken, hung in the air between their three shared breaths:
What now?
Ino broke the silence first. She released his hand, but the gesture was one of ownership, not retreat. Her palm, broad and capable now, came to rest on his soft shoulder. “You look wrecked, detective. And you smell like airplane.” Her thumb rubbed a slow circle into the yielding flesh above his collarbone. “Shower. Now. Your bathroom is probably a disaster.”
She didn’t ask. She directed.
Sakura mirrored the motion on his other side, her powerful fingers applying a deeper, more deliberate pressure that made his muscles unlock. “I’ll find you something that fits,” she said, her voice losing its tremor, regaining its practical warmth. “Your old clothes will be… restrictive.” Her green eyes flickered down his body, a swift, clinical assessment. “Come on.”
They guided him, a firm hand on each arm, toward the hallway. Their touch was not gentle. It was sure, steering, effortlessly overcoming any slight resistance his stunned body offered. He moved between them like a raft between two mighty tugboats, their combined presence filling the corridor.
In the bathroom, steam clouded the mirror. Naruto stood under the hot spray, his mind blank. The water sluiced over his rounded stomach, his softer thighs. He could still feel the ghost impressions of their hands on him—the distinct, separate strength in each grip. He scrubbed mechanically, the generic hotel soap failing to erase the feeling of their new reality.
When he emerged, towel around his waist, a set of clothes was waiting on the closed toilet lid. They were his, but not. A pair of his softest, largest sweatpants and a faded, stretched-out t-shirt. Sakura had chosen them. They would accommodate him.
He pulled them on. The waistband of the sweatpants still dug snugly into the soft shelf of his lower belly. The t-shirt clung to the new, thicker breadth of his chest and shoulders, fabric stretching over the passive bulk he’d gained. He stared at his reflection in the fogged glass. He looked like a man who had let something go.
A delicious, familiar scent pulled him from the critique. Garlic, ginger, soy. He followed it to the kitchen.
The scene there arrested him again.
Sakura was at the stove, her back to him. She wore only a tight tank top and tiny shorts. The kitchen light traced the incredible architecture of her back—the deep canyon of her spine, flanked by slabs of latissimus muscle that flared like folded wings. Her shoulders, monstrously round and full, rolled with each stir of the wok. Her arms, thick and vascular, handled the heavy pan with a casual, one-handed prowess that made his own wrists feel brittle.
Ino was at the island, chopping vegetables. Her movements were precise, efficient. With each downward chop, the dense ball of her deltoid flexed, a hard knot of muscle rolling under smooth skin. She glanced up, catching him staring.
“See something you like, deadbeat?” she teased, but her grin was different. It was not a question. It was a statement of fact, confident and knowing.
“I…,” he started, swallowing. “You’re just… it’s amazing.”
Sakura turned, wiping her hands on a towel draped over one monumental shoulder. “Dinner’s ready. Sit.”
He obeyed. They brought the food to the table—a simple, hearty stir-fry with rice. They served him first, heaping portions on his plate. They sat flanking him, their bodies taking up more space, more air, than he remembered.
“Eat,” Sakura said, nudging his elbow with her own. The contact was solid, immovable.
He ate. The food was perfect. He realized he was starving. He shovelled it in, his manners forgotten.
Ino watched him, chin propped on a fist that looked like it could shatter the table. “Slow down. You’ll choke.” She reached over, her fingers—long, strong, capable—brushing a grain of rice from the soft curve of his cheek. The touch was possessive.
Days folded into this new rhythm. A subtle, profound shift in the physics of their shared space.
He would be struggling with a stubborn jar of pickles, his hands slipping on the lid. “Oh, for heaven’s sake,” Sakura would sigh, plucking it from his grasp. Her hand would engulf the lid. A swift, contained twist of her wrist, the tendons in her forearm standing in stark relief, and the seal would crack open with a pop. She’d hand it back, her expression one of benign amusement. “There you go, lightweight.”
He’d haul a bag of laundry down the hall, breathing heavily. Ino would appear, effortlessly taking the overflowing basket from him with one hand. “Pathetic,” she’d smirk, hefting it onto her hip as if it weighed nothing. The defined curve of her obliques would tense beneath her crop top as she carried it away, leaving him standing empty-handed.
One evening, they were sprawled on the oversized sectional. He was in his usual spot, sunken into the cushions. Ino was next to him, one powerful leg thrown over his lap as she read. Her thigh was a dense, warm weight, solid as a sandbag. He let his hand rest on it, his fingers tracing the hard, corded separation of her quadriceps.
“You’re like a rock,” he murmured, fascinated.
She didn’t look up from her book. “And you’re like a stress ball,” she said, pressing her foot playfully into his soft middle. He grunted, the air leaving him in a soft whoosh. She laughed, a rich, full sound. “So squishy.”
He didn’t mind. He found his eyes constantly drawn to them, to the way Sakura’s back muscles shifted and defined themselves when she reached for a high shelf, to the way Ino’s biceps would swell and harden when she lifted a case of water for the fridge. His awe was tinged with a quiet, growing surrender.
During a movie night, Sakura stood to get more popcorn. As she passed his chair, he reached out on impulse, his hand circling her ankle. Her calf was thicker than his forearm, taut and unyielding.
She paused, looking down at him, the movie’s blue light playing over the severe, beautiful lines of her face and neck. “What?”
“Nothing,” he said, his thumb stroking the hard curve of her gastrocnemius muscle. “Just… incredible.”
She smiled, a slow, warm thing. She flexed her foot, and the muscle under his hand hardened further, a perfect, dense sphere rising beneath her skin. “I know,” she said simply, and walked on.
It was a statement, not vanity. A fact of the universe.
One afternoon, he came home from the grocery store, arms straining with bags. Ino met him at the door, taking them from him with ease. “Let the professional handle it,” she said. As she turned to carry them to the kitchen, he gave her rear an affectionate, familiar swat.
His hand bounced off.
It was like slapping a limestone cliff. The impact stung his palm. The phenomenal, rounded mass of her gluteus muscle didn’t even jiggle; it rebounded his hand with a firm, shocking solidity.
She glanced back over her formidable shoulder, a wicked smirk on her lips. “Try that again, and you’ll sprain your wrist,” she purred. The power in her voice was a tangible thing, a vibration in the air.
He stood in the doorway, his palm tingling, watching the powerful, mesmerizing shift of muscle as she walked away. A strange, warm helplessness flooded him, mixed with a sharp, undeniable attraction. They were stronger. They were in control. And he, nestled in the comfortable, soft body they teased him for, found he didn’t just like their bodies.
He worshipped them.
