Chapter 2: Dressing Room Confessions

The precinct’s stale coffee and filing cabinet chaos felt like a different lifetime. Now, Naruto stood adrift in a sea of ivory carpet and soft jazz, surrounded by racks of clothing that cost more than his monthly rent. The air itself smelled wealthy—a blend of jasmine, cedar, and unspoken judgment.

“This is torture,” he muttered, his voice swallowed by the plush silence.

“It’s research,” Ino corrected, materializing beside him with an armful of silk. Her baby-blue eyes glittered with mischief. “A detective should be observant, right? Consider this a field test.”

“Observing what? Hemlines?”

“Proportions. Aesthetic harmony.” She leaned down, her whisper a warm breeze against his ear. “Survival instincts.”

She vanished behind a curtain of cobalt velvet, one of three doors leading to the boutique’s sumptuous dressing rooms. Hinata had already disappeared into the center one, a tentative shadow clutching a single, modest dress. Sakura had commandeered the left, barking orders at a flustered sales associate about reinforced stitching and ‘architectural support’.

Naruto was left on a low, backless divan the color of champagne, positioned directly opposite the tripartite mirrors. A trap.

The velvet curtain of the center room twitched. Hinata emerged.

The breath left Naruto’s body in a soft rush.

She wore a dress of midnight blue, a simple sheath that did everything but conceal. The fabric was a whisper against her skin, draping over the profound, gentle slope of her hips, cinching at a waist he could have circled with his hands, then flowing over the generous curve of her bust. The neckline was respectful, yet it did nothing to hide the lush, soft swell of her cleavage. Her long, dark hair was swept over one shoulder, baring the delicate line of her neck. She stood with one foot slightly pointed, her hands clasped anxiously before her, her pale lavender eyes fixed on him with a hope so fragile it hurt.

“W-What do you think, Naruto-kun?”

He opened his mouth. No sound came out. He saw the faint dusting of freckles across her collarbones, the way the light caught the nervous flutter of her pulse in her throat. He was a detective. He noticed details. Right now, every detail was a hammer blow to his composure.

“It’s…” he managed, his voice rough. “It’s really pretty, Hinata. You look… really pretty.”

A blush bloomed across her chest, rising to her cheeks. A small, radiant smile broke through her shyness, transforming her face. “Thank you.”

“Pretty?” Ino’s voice cut from behind her curtain. “That’s your professional assessment? Sakura, our consultant is underperforming.”

“Give him a minute. He’s visually processing.” Sakura’s reply was dry, but held an edge he couldn’t place.

Hinata retreated, smile still playing on her lips. Before Naruto could recover, Ino’s curtain swept aside.

She stood framed in velvet, a statue of confidence. The outfit was not a dress. It was a two-piece set: tiny, high-waisted shorts in cream silk that clung to the powerful, rounded curve of her behind, and a matching bralette whose sole function seemed to be showcasing the magnificent, gravity-defying fullness of her breasts. The smooth, toned expanse of her stomach and the deep, alluring hollow of her navel were bare. Her long legs, endlessly long, seemed to go on for miles before vanishing into velvet heels.

“Evening wear,” she declared, striking a pose with a hand on her hip. The movement made everything sway hypnotically. “For a gallery opening. Does it say ‘arty’ or ‘eager to party’? Be honest.”

Naruto’s brain had officially severed its connection to his mouth. He was staring, and he knew it, but he was physically incapable of looking away. The lighting loved her, gilding her blonde hair and shimmering on her skin. She was a sunbeam given devastating human form.

“Ino, you can’t wear that in public,” Sakura called out.

“Why not?”

“They’d arrest you. For inciting a riot.” There was a grunt of effort from her room. “This damn zipper…”

Ino ignored her, her eyes locked on Naruto. “Well? Detective? Your analysis.”

He swallowed, his throat desert-dry. “It’s… very… yellow.”

Ino blinked. Then she threw her head back and laughed, a rich, unfettered sound that made her whole magnificent physique tremble. “Yellow! It’s cream, you colorblind philistine.” But she was still smiling, a soft, genuine thing, as she let the curtain fall back.

His relief was short-lived. Sakura’s curtain didn’t open with a flourish. She simply stepped out.

Naruto’s world narrowed to the space she occupied.

It was a cocktail dress, blood-red and brutal in its simplicity. It was a sheath of raw silk that wrapped around her like a second skin, emphasizing every legendary curve. It plunged in a deep, daring ‘V’ that channeled the eye down into a shadowed valley of soft, pale flesh, held together by sheer will and a single, fragile clasp. The fabric hugged the astonishing swell of her hips, the dangerous taper of her waist, and flowed over a bust that seemed to defy both physics and fabric. Her shoulder-length pink hair was tousled, her emerald eyes sharp and challenging. She stood with her full, formidable height, looking down at him where he sat, a king surveying a captured subject.

“Well?” Her voice was a low hum. “Functional?”

He was drowning in red. He could see the subtle push of her breath against the tight silk, the way the light caught the defined line of her clavicle. The memory of the morning—the warmth, the soft pressure, the scent—crashed over him in a hot wave. This was that moment, amplified and dressed in vengeance.

“It’s… red,” he choked out.

Sakura’s eyebrow arched. “Astute.”

“No, I mean… it’s really red. And…” He gestured weakly, a universal signal for ‘all of you’.

“And?”

“It might… distract… from the art.” He finished lamely.

A slow, predatory smile spread across her lips. “Good.” She turned sideways to examine herself in the mirror, a move that outlined her profile in a way that made his heart stutter against his ribs. “It’s a statement piece.”

The sales associate, a willowy woman with a measuring tape around her neck, chose that moment to glide over. Her eyes, however, weren’t on the dress. They were on Naruto, sitting small and overwhelmed on the divan.

“Can I get your… boyfriend… anything? A water? A glass of champagne?” she asked Sakura, her voice sweet.

Three heads turned in unison. The air in the room chilled by several degrees.

“He’s not my boyfriend,” Sakura said, her tone frosting over. “He’s our consultant.”

“And he’s hydrated,” Ino added, sweeping her curtain back. She hadn’t changed. She planted a silk-clad hip inches from Naruto, her presence a palpable wall.

The associate persisted, undeterred, smiling directly at Naruto. “Well, he has a very keen eye. Rare in a man.”

Hinata’s curtain rustled. She stepped out, still in the midnight blue sheath, and moved without a word to stand on Naruto’s other side. She didn’t speak. She simply stood there, tall and suddenly imposing, her gentle gaze now fixed on the associate with a quiet, unyielding intensity.

Naruto felt caged by towering, protective beauty. He looked up, seeing Ino’s razor-sharp smile and Hinata’s silent resolve, and then to Sakura, who had crossed her arms beneath her bust, a move that lifted and accentuated everything. The associate took a subtle step back under the triple-pronged stare.

“The champagne is for clients,” Sakura stated, her voice leaving no room for argument. “We’re still deciding. On the clothes.”

The message was received. The associate retreated with a stiff nod.

The moment she was gone, the energy shifted again, turning inward, warmer but more charged. Ino looked down at Naruto, her expression unreadable. “You’re a menace, you know that?”

“Me?”

“Yes, you. With your…” She gestured at all of him, his confused blue eyes, his spiky hair, his compact frame swallowed by the divan. “…whatever that is. It’s disruptive to commerce.”

“I didn’t do anything!”

Sakura let out a short laugh, but her eyes were still on the spot where the associate had stood. “You exist. It’s a problem.” She turned back to her mirror, but her reflection was watching him. “We need a second opinion. On the zipper. It’s stuck.”

“Get the associate,” he said quickly.

“She’s busy. You have fine motor skills. Get in here.”

It wasn’t a request. Ino gave him a little push off the divan. Hinata bit her lip, her eyes wide.

Trapped. Again.

He walked toward the red velvet maw of her dressing room. She held the curtain open just enough for him to slip through, then let it fall closed behind him, sealing them in a soft, perfumed world of muted light and her overwhelming presence.

The room was small. Intimate. Discarded clothing lay over a plush stool. And there, standing with her back to him, was Sakura. The dress was unzipped about halfway down, revealing a breathtaking expanse of her back—smooth, pale skin, the elegant line of her spine, the delicate straps of a serious, lace-trimmed bra struggling to contain the promise of what lay ahead. The undone zipper stopped right at the swell of her lower back, above the dramatic curve of her hips.

“It’s caught on the lining,” she said, her voice quieter in this enclosed space. “Fix it.”

He stepped closer. The scent of her—clean skin, a hint of medicinal soap from the hospital, and something uniquely Sakura—wrapped around him. He could feel the heat radiating from her body. His fingers, which had deftly disarmed petty thieves and picked locks, felt like clumsy sausages as he reached for the tiny metal tab.

He could see the faint impressions of her ribs, the powerful muscles of her back framing her spine. His knuckles brushed against the warm skin of her lower back. She didn’t flinch, but he felt a fine tremor go through her.

“Sorry,” he mumbled.

“Just… hurry up.”

He focused on the task, pinching the fabric, gently working the zipper tooth free. It was a struggle of millimeters. Every shift of his fingers brought him into accidental contact with her. The world was the sound of her breathing, the rustle of silk, the frantic beat of his own heart.

The zipper gave with a tiny snick. It was free. He could pull it now, all the way down, and…

He froze, his hand on the tab.

“It’s unstuck,” he said, his voice thick.

She didn’t move. She stood, waiting, her back still to him. The invitation—or the challenge—hung in the air between them, thick as the perfume.

From outside, Ino’s voice, bright and deliberately loud, shattered the moment. “Is the structural integrity secured in there, or do we need to send in a rescue team?”

Naruto yanked his hand back as if burned. “All good!” he called, too loudly. He stepped back, hitting the velvet wall.

Sakura let out a breath, a soft, almost disappointed sound. She reached back, her own long arm effortlessly grasping the zipper pull, and drew it up herself, sealing the red dress shut once more. When she turned, her expression was composed, but a storm brewed in her emerald eyes.

“Thanks,” she said, not sounding thankful at all. She brushed past him, the silk of her dress whispering against his arm, and swept the curtain aside, emerging back into the light.

Naruto followed, feeling like he’d just run a marathon in quicksand. Three pairs of eyes landed on him: Ino’s knowing, Hinata’s worried, Sakura’s inscrutable.

“We’ll take them all,” Ino announced to the associate, who had reappeared at a safe distance. “Bill it to the usual account.”

The decision was unanimous. No one asked Naruto for his final, professional assessment. It was clear his role here was not to judge the clothes, but to survive the exquisite, terrifying process of being wanted by three forces of nature. And as they left the boutique, the women towering around him in their new, devastating purchases, he felt more like their captive than their consultant—a captive who, despite his terror, never wanted to be freed.
